Hatred of Israel
On May 21, 2018, Menefee tweeted: “hi there! openly vying for armageddon? in 2018 we have several political movements for you to choose from. could i interest you in…zionism…the kkk…white boys…”Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
On August 27, 2019, Menefee tweeted: “tfw [that feeling when] Indigenous scholars have been describing and critiquing settler colonial violence in the US and Israel for decades while folks in other disciplines imagine both states as benevolent democracies
.” Her tweet featured an article about Israel-based Elbit Systems selling border-monitoring equipment to the United States Border Control. On May 10, 2021, Menefee tweeted: “Israel is killing Palestinian children and the US has helped/is helping.”
Menefee wrote her tweet at the beginning of Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas.
In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.
Anti-Israel Activism (BDS, SJP)
On January 23, 2015, Menefee appeared in a photo from the NUDivest Facebook account in which she is standing with students wearing NUDivest t-shirts.The NUDivest campaign was launched in January 2015 and it was run by SJP Northwestern activists.
On February 1, 2015, Menefee co-signed a letter in support of NUDivest, “a student-led campaign calling on Northwestern University to divest from corporations that are profiting from the illegal occupation of Palestine.”
The letter Menefee co-signed was written to “support divestment from [British security company] G4S, Elbit Systems and other corporations which profit from and export Palestinian suffering to the U.S.” The letter was titled: “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle,” and it was published in the online student publication, North by Northwestern.
The letter accused Israel of “apartheid” and “settler colonialism.” The letter called Israel’s security barrier an “Apartheid Wall” and also said: “In Israel and the U.S., police operate under racial paradigms that mark Black and Palestinian lives as criminal and expendable.”
Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.
On February 5, 2015, NUDivest held a BDS workshop, reportedly drafting a BDS resolution to be presented to the Northwestern Associated Student Government (ASG).
On February 18, 2015, the Northwestern ASG held a meeting where the NUDivest BDS resolution was debated. Five hours after the debate began, on February 19, 2015, NUDivest’s BDS resolution was passed via secret ballot by the Northwestern ASG. The vote tally was 24 in favor, 22 against and three abstentions.
On February 19, 2015, Menefee appeared in a group photo from the NUDivest Facebook account. The photo’s caption said: “DIVESTMENT PASSES #NUDivest.”
On September 14, 2018, Menefee tweeted: “Remi [Kanazi] came to Northwestern one year…he was a powerful speaker and poet and brought a lot of strength to activists on campus.” The tweet included a tweet that featured a photo of activist Remi Kanazi.
Poet Remi Kanazi is known for his aggressively anti-Israel spoken-word performances. He has supported terrorism and has compared Israel to both ISIS and the Ku Klux Klan.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
