Ghada Sasa

Overview

Ghada Sasa has expressed support for Hamas terrorists, called for Israel’s destruction, spread anti-Semitism and shown support for other terror groups on social media. She has also compared Zionism to Nazism and engaged in anti-Israel activism.

Sasa’s social media posts and activism took place during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists. Israel launched the war, called called “Swords of Iron,” after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings. The atrocities were executed on October 7, 2023, and left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.

Hamas is a designated terrorist organization founded in 1987 that is dedicated to destroying Israel and killing Jews. Since 2001, Hamas has launched thousands of rockets at Israel and on October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped over 200 hostages, including children and the elderly.

In October 2023, Sasa was suspended from the board of the anti-Israel group Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME). Sasa joined CJPME as a board member in December 2022.

Sasa was an activist with Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) at McMaster University (McMaster) in 2020 and 2023. SPHR is an alternative name for Students For Justice In Palestine (SJP).

Sasa was reportedly a member of Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA) at York University (York) in 2015. SAIA is another name for SJP. She served as a spokesperson for a Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement campaign at York in 2016.

As of December 2023, Sasa’s LinkedIn said she had been a teaching assistant at McMaster since 2018 and was a “PhD Candidate” student in political science, slated to graduate in 2023. It also said she received a master’s degree in environmental studies from York.

Support for Hamas and Calling for Israel’s Destruction

On October 7, 2023, the day Hamas massacred over 1,200 Israeli Jews, Sasa tweeted: “What news to wake up to!!! Free Palestine from the river to the sea ✌️.”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.

Sasa’s tweet embedded a tweet that said: “Massive Resistance offensive in Gaza. Palestinian Resistance fighters have infiltrated the border for the first time in history and have taken control of areas in the Israeli settlement of Sderot.”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.

Also on October 7, 2023, Sasa tweeted: “What a time to be alive now... witnessing a besieged people betrayed by the whole world launching effective resistance against a nuclear apartheid state…”

On the same date, Sasa tweeted: “People are talking about how Palestinian resistance is going to be defamed by Western media as ‘terror*sm’. This racist spin is to be expected…I am so so proud of my people.”

On October 10, 2023, Sasa tweeted: “Palestinian violent resistance is moral & legal.
Palestinian violent resistance is moral & legal. / #FreePalaestine #Decolonization.”

On October 15, 2023, Sasa led [00:00:46] an anti-Israel protest held at Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) convention in Hamilton, Ontario.

On the same day, Sasa tweeted an interview from the protest where she was asked [00:00:24]: “What do you think about Hamas’s raid on Israeli towns?” She responded [00:00:28]: “By pointing your finger at Hamas you are trying to delegitimize Palestinian resistance…”

Also in the interview, Sasa said: [00:01:37] “The Palestinians have the right to resist, the right to armed struggles...”

Sasa later tweeted another video from the protest that showed protesters chanting [00:00:23]: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!”

On January 28, 2024, Sasa tweeted: “We urgently need to shift strategy. From October 7, I argued that we as Palestinians & allies need to emphasize that: 1. Israel is a genocidal settler colony, and 2. Palestinian armed struggle is both legal and moral.”

Sasa’s tweet later said: “...we cannot risk neglecting, undermining, or defaming armed resistance, which historically played an *integral* role in abolishing colonialism.”

Sasa went on to say: “We must challenge Zionist disinformation & remind people that October 7 is a day that Palestinians broke through their open-air prison...that it was a day that Palestinians of various ideologies/backgrounds, including non-combatants, were finally able to access the rest of *their homeland* & taste freedom...that it was a day Natives were able to fight back against their oppressors to regain their rights.”

Referring to Gaza as an “open-air prison” is a way to delegitimize the UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed in 2011 to prevent Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets. Following Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, the Israeli military discovered that Hamas went around the blockade by smuggling weaponry through tunnels under the Philadelphi corridor separating Gaza from Egypt.

On January 15, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Every Palestinian life is precious. Every inch of the land of our ancestors is sacred. It is not enough to pause the bombing of Gaza. Lift the siege, end the occupation, dismantle the apartheid wall, recognize equal rights for all, return the land to its original inhabitants.”

Spreading Anti-Semitism during a Hamas War

On December 24, 2024, Sasa posted on X: “Israel isn’t ‘losing its humanity’. It’s a settler colony founded through the murder, forced displacement, and oppression of millions of Indigenous Palestinians.”

One way that anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is to claim [00:06:46] that Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, do not descend from the ancient Israelites. This claim alleges that Jews are white Europeans who lack a connection to the Land of Israel.

On December 2, 2023, Sasa tweeted about a letter signed by hundreds of Jewish doctors at the University of Toronto (U of T), in protest of anti-Semitism at U of T.

Sasa wrote in her tweet: “Here are the names of the 555 doctors from U of Toronto who recently wrote a letter declaring their right to work openly as Zionists. As McGill U Prof Gil Troy wrote in his racist letter, ‘These [doctors] had the Zionist impulse to defend Western civilization…”

Sasa’s tweet included a list with names of 555 Jewish doctors from the Temerty Faculty of Medicine (TFOM) at U of T who signed a November 2023 statement titled: “OPEN STATEMENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO TEMERTY FACULTY OF MEDICINE FROM JEWISH PHYSICIAN FACULTY.”

The statement said [p.1] “...in the TFOM itself, the hostile and belligerent position towards Jews who identify with the state of Israel, or who identify as Zionists, is discriminatory.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

The statement also said [p.1]: “The distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism is tissue thin. Only for Jews is self-determination and autonomy– Zionism – denounced as a racist endeavour…”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 other countries have adopted the definition as well.

Support for Terrorists

On October 14, 2023, Sasa tweeted: “‘We write with blood for Palestine’ / - Ghassan Kanafani.”

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.

On June 27, 2023, Sasa tweeted referring to Khader Adnan as “our dear martyr.”

Khader Adnan was a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization. A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.

On February 28, 2023, Sasa created petition “e-433” that called on the Canadian government to “request that Israel immediately free” Palestinian terrorist Ahmad Manasra. Sasa has continued to campaign for his release.

Ahmed Manasra (sometimes spelled Mansara) and his 15-year-old cousin Hassan went on a stabbing spree in Jerusalem on October 12, 2015, during the Knife Intifada. They critically wounded a 13-year-old boy and moderately wounded a 25-year-old man. The spree ended when police shot Hassan and a passing motorist hit Ahmed. Ahmed was taken to an Israeli hospital. He admitted to investigators: “I went there to stab Jews.” He was later tried and convicted on two counts of attempted murder.

Comparing Zionism to Nazism

On June 14, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Remember that a major catalyst for the downfall of Nazi Germany was its aggressive territorial expansion. By attacking Iran, Israel is accelerating the dismantlement of its Nazi regime, which I predict will take place within the next 5 years.” Sasa shared her post during the ongoing Israel-Iran war.

On April 18, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Imagine if Nazi Germany launched a global atrocity propaganda tour to victimize itself & rally support for the Holocaust. This is the strategy Israel deployed last year by launching the Nova Music Festival Exhibition, which is coming to Toronto from April 23 to June 8. 1/.”

On February 9, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Many of you may argue that Zionism is Nazism, but you don't truly believe your words. After more than a year of watching a livestreamed genocide against millions of Palestinians, you still both side perpetrators of a Holocaust & the victims. You don't see us as human.”

On February 7, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Why would you call yourself a cultural Zionist? Why associate yourself with such a genocidal ideology? As Mohammed notes, Zionism is Nazism. There is no nuance…"

Hatred of Israel

On July 1, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Don't celebrate ‘Canada Day’ today. It's no different than ‘Israeli Independence Day’ as in it's a celebration of genocide. Wear orange, listen to Indigenous stories, attend protests in solidarity with Indigenous peoples.”

On June 15, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Do we even understand the radiological threats posed by Israel's ongoing assaults against Iranian nuclear facilities to not only Iranian communities and ecosystems but the broader region? The rogue Zionist regime needs to be stopped immediately.” Sasa shared the post during the ongoing Israel-Iran war.

On February 19, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “Zionists are special. Victimhood - delusion - gaslighting - racism.”

In 1975, an anti-Israel resolution that branded Zionism as a form of racism was proposed to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). Although the resolution passed in 1975, it was repealed in 1991, by a much larger majority.

On January 20, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “I feel I'm healing after almost a year and a half of watching my people be tortured, maimed, starved, & massacred en masse 😭. Thank you to all who stood by us. Obviously, our genocide is not over till the entire settler colony is dismantled, so the struggle continues ✊.”On January 18, 2025, Sasa posted on X: “There is a particular cruelty in carpet bombing captive Natives as they celebrate news of a ceasefire. Israel never ceases to amaze with its sadism and arrogance.”

Anti-Israel Activism (SPHR)

On October 14, 2023, Sasa participated in an anti-Israel protest in Mississauga, Ontario. In an interview with Al Jazeera English from the protest, Sasa said [00:00:24] “It’s just disgusting that the Canadian government…are siding with Israel…”

On October 14, 2023, multiple anti-Israel groups in the Toronto area held a protest in Mississauga, Ontario, where protesters chanted [00:06:09]: “Zionists, no more!”

Protesters also chanted [00:00:20]: “Be-ruh, be-dam, nifdik, ya Azaبروح ودم نفديك يااقصى [With spirit, with blood, we will redeem you, Gaza]!” Other chants included [00:06:13]: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!” which is a call for the destruction of Israel. They also called for violence, chanting [00:02:05]: “Intifada!” and [00:07:02]: “When people are occupied, resistance is justified!” Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to nationalistic terror and to glorify anti-Semitic violence.

On October 16, 2023, Sasa organized [00:01:38] an anti-Israel protest in Hamilton, Ontario, and said in a video interview from the protest: “We want our government at minimum to sanction Israel right now, shut down the embassy, expel the Israeli ambassador.”

On October 20, 2023, Sasa was an organizer [00:00:17] for a protest held by PSC York and SPHR McMaster, titled: “Toronto: Stop Israeli War Crimes!” The protest was held outside the office of Canada’s deputy prime minister, Chrystia Freeland, and then moved opposite a Jewish community center.

On October 20, 2023, following Israel’s military response to the Hamas massacre of approximately 1,200 Israeli Jews almost two weeks before, SPHR McMaster and PSC York, held a protest titled: “Toronto: Stop Israeli War Crimes!” Before the rally, PSC York had published a pro-Hamas statement.

The protesters blocked traffic outside the constituency office of Canada’s deputy prime minister, Chrystia Freeland. They then proceeded to block an intersection located adjacent to the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Center, housing a Jewish daycare center and a school.

Protesters chanted [00:00:36]: “Viva viva, Intifada!,” which is a call for violence. They also chanted [00:01:52] “Zionism is racism!” and “down with Zionism!” As they blocked the intersection, they shouted [00:00:06] “Justice is our demand, no peace on stolen land!” and [00:00:16] “Canada and U.S.A., how many kids have you killed today!”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
