Eliana Atienza
Eliana Atienza was a coordinator of a group that signed a statement in support of Hamas terrorist war crimes against Israeli civilians in October 2023. She has also called for Israel’s destruction.
Atienza’s group, Fossil Free Penn, was among multiple student groups at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) that signed the statement.
In August 2024, Atienza was an organizer with the pro-terror group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). In this capacity, she was active with the Racial Justice Organizing Committee (RJOC), an activist group that includes teachers promoting anti-Israel material in the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). RJOC was part of a larger antisemitism controversy in SDP in 2023 and 2024, detailed further below.
Atienza’s group signed the statement in the wake of Hamas atrocities against Israeli civilians. These included mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, and were executed on October 7, 2023. The attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”
On May 21, 2024, the Washington Free Beacon reported that Penn placed Atienza “on mandatory leave for participating in an illegal anti-Israel encampment.” The encampment on the Penn campus was one of many across the country protesting Israel’s war against Hamas.
The Washington Free Beacon article further reported that Atienza said she was a victim of “‘administrative violence,’” and that the university left her “‘homeless.’” The same article reported that she is the daughter of Kim Atienza, a celebrity television personality in the Philippines, and granddaughter of Lito Atienza, a prominent Filipino politician.
As of September 2024, Atienza was a student at Penn, slated to graduate in 2026.
Penn is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As of November 2023, Atienza’s Instagram bio said she was from Manila, Philippines.
