Dequi Kioni-Sadiki

Overview

Dequi Kioni-Sadiki is married to a violent convicted felon and she has spread anti-Semitism at rallies organized by Within Our Lifetime (WOL), an anti-Israel activist group in New York, New York. She has been a featured speaker at the WOL rallies, where she promoted hatred of Israel and America [slide 4].

On social media, Kioni-Sadiki has expressed support for terrorists, showed support for violent criminals and spread hatred of Zionists, Israel, America and the police.

Kioni-Sadiki is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of August 2023, Kioni-Sadiki reportedly had served as the leader of the Sekou Odinga Defense Committee. Kioni-Sadiki is married to Odinga, who was convicted of attempted murder.

As of the same date, Kioni-Sadiki was reportedly “an educator with the NYC Department of Education.”

Kioni-Sadiki was also listed online as having been the chair of the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee and an “activist organizer” with the Jericho Movement, a group that advocates for “political prisoners and prisoners of war.”

Married to a Violent Convicted Felon

Kioni-Sadiki was one of the leaders of the Sekou Odinga Defense Committee, an organization that campaigned for the release of convicted felon Sekou Odinga. Kioni-Sadiki later married Odinga.

Odinga was imprisoned for his actions with the Black Liberation Army (BLA), a domestic terrorist group in the 1960s and 1970s. He was charged with six counts of attempted murder and for his involvement in the escape of Assata Shakur from prison and an armored car robbery. Shakur was in jail for murdering a police officer. Odinga was convicted in 1984 and released from prison in 2014.

July 1, 2020 -Spreading Anti-Semitism at a WOL Rally

Kioni-Sadiki was a speaker at a July 1, 2020 WOL rally and said [00:01:24]: “The European Jews, who occupy, slaughter and continue to force millions of Palestinians onto their killing fields called refugee and concentration camps, are the relatives of the Europeans… who kidnapped, slaughtered, and forced millions of Africans and Indigenous onto slave ships, plantations, reservations, prison death camps on this Turtle Island [North America].”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

The claim that Jews were dominant in the transatlantic slave trade was propagated in a book published by the Nation of Islam titled: “The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews.” The book has been discredited in a work titled: “Jews, Slaves, and the Slave Trade: Setting the Record Straight,” by John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor of history, Eli Faber.

One way that anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is to claim [00:06:46] that Israeli Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, do not descend from the ancient Israelites. This claim alleges that Israeli Jews are white Europeans who lack a connection to the Land of Israel.

Kioni-Sadiki continued and said [00:01:49]: “I know that from the River to the Sea, Palestine must be free, because from every river to every sea, on this stolen land, this Turle Island must also be free.”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

The rally Kioni-Sadiki spoke at was titled “Day of Rage” and was held in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, in coordination with similar rallies in other cities across the country. Branches of the anti-Israel organizations Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) endorsed the action.

At the rally, another speaker shouted from the stage [00:02:49], with the crowd repeating his words after him: “الموت لاسرائيل [Death to Israel]! الموت لامريكا [Death to America]!”

July 31, 2021- Promoting Violence at a WOL Rally

Kioni-Sadiki was a speaker at a July 31, 2021 WOL rally titled, “GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA” and said [00:31:18]: “...I stand here on the side of Palestinian liberation recognizing that just as Palestine is occupied by settler colonialism, so is the United States.” She later said [00:32:49]: “And the Palestinian people are an inspiration, because from the cradle to the grave, we see Palestinians fight, fight, fight and resist settler colonialism.”

The term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” carries the connotation of violence. Palestinian intifadas waged against Israel have been marked since 1987 by hundreds of hijackings, shootings, stabbings, bombings and suicide missions.

Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.

Kioni-Sadiki concluded [00:33:00] her speech: “So that is why my husband said … [we] stand with the Palestinian people. Because we know that freedom is a goal that we fight to win. Thank you. Palestine must be free from the River to The Sea.”

WOL leader Nerdeen Kiswani then took the microphone and led [00:33:19] the chant “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!” and [00:33:42] “We will free Palestine within our lifetime!”

Later on at the July 31, 2021 rally, fireworks were ignited [01:02:15] and produced a sound similar to gunfire. Kiswani shouted [01:02:43] to the crowd: “I hope that a “pop-pop” is the last noise that some Zionists hear in their lifetime!” Her statement was met with cheers and applause.

May 15, 2022 - Hatred of America at WOL Rally

Kioni-Sadiki was a speaker at a May 15, 2022 WOL rally and said [slide 4]: “We recognize that the state of Israel is a creation of the settler colonialism just as the U.S. is a creation of settler colonialism…” The rally was titled: “Nakba 74” and was held in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

On May 12, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki shared on Instagram a flyer announcing the rally headlined: “Resistance & Return By Any Means Necessary.” She wrote: “from the Nakba to the Trail of Tears to Wounded Knee to the Transatlantic Slave/Middle Passage/Maafa to Black Wall Street, Jim/Jane Crow Apartheid & more, its ALL BEEN & IS the GENOCIDE we continue to resist.”

Promoting Terrorists (PFLP, BLA)

On May 10, 2021, Kioni-Sadiki posted on Instagram a photo of herself in her home, standing in front of a famous portrait photo of Leila Khaled holding an AK-47 assault rifle. Khaled took the photo in 1969 after her first hijacking of a passenger airplane.

Kioni-Sadiki wrote in her post: “... let us STAND/STRUGGLE with the Palestinian people against genocide. Palestinian Lives Matter.”

Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

Kioni-Sadiki retweeted a May 20, 2022 tweet honoring PFLP leader Ghassan Kanafani.

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.

On July 10, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “being aware of oppression makes one a warrior.” Her tweet was about a tweet that quoted Assata Shakur referring to herself as a “reluctant warrior.”

Assata Shakur was convicted of killing a New Jersey state trooper and wounding another in 1973 while a member of the Black Liberation Army (BLA). She escaped from prison in 1979 and fled to Cuba in 1984, where she resides today. She is listed on the FBI Most Wanted Terror List under her legal name, Joanne Deborah Chesimard.

Kioni-Sadiki retweeted a November 1, 2022 tweet honoring Ghassan Kanafani.

Support for Violent Criminals

As of November 2022, Kioni-Sadiki’s Instagram Stories Highlights titled “PPOWs [Political Prisoners of Wars]” re-posted a graphic that promoted a campaign for the release of convicted murderer Sundiata Acoli from prison. The post also celebrated Acoli’s birthday and asked people to donate to the campaign.

Sundiata Acoli was convicted of killing a New Jersey State trooper and wounding another in 1973. One of Acoli’s accomplices was fellow Black Liberation Army (BLA) member Assata Shakur.

On November 4, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “Long Live the Spirit & Legacy of Marilyn Buck! Presente.”

Marilyn Jean Buck was part of the U.S. domestic terrorist groups The Black Liberation Army (BLA) and the May 19th Communist Organization (M19CO). She aided in the prison break of convicted BLA cop-killer Assata Shakur. Buck and others also bombed the U.S. Capitol Building, three military facilities in Washington, D.C and four sites in New York City in the early 1980s, including the Israeli Aircraft Industries Building.

On June 16, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted about a post promoting a petition for the release from prison of Mutulu Shakur: “when we say Free ‘em all, those ain’t just words, its the work we continue to do. Please SIGN & SHARE.”

Mutulu Shakur, brother of Assata Shakur, was a Black Liberation Army (BLA) member convicted for his involvement in a 1981 Brinks robbery where two police officers and one Brinks security guard were murdered. He was also involved in the 1979 prison break of his sister and fellow BLA member Assata, who was jailed for the murder of a police officer in 1973.

On May 11, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “we LOVE you Sundiata Acoli.”

On January 23, 2020, Kioni-Sadiki hosted Russell Shoatz III on the weekly show “Where We Live” on WBAI-Radio, Pacifica, where she was the producer. Shoatz III, who is the son of Russell Maroon Shoatz, was invited onto the show to “talk about the push to get his father” released from prison.

Russell Maroon Shoatz was a founding member of the Black Unity Council, as well as a member of the BLA and Black Panther Party. In 1973, Shoatz was convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of a Philadelphia police officer. While in prison, Shoatz took over a cell block with the help of other prisoners and was involved in two armed prison escapes.

Hatred of Zionists

On August 18, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “Zionists settlers be like roaches: where there’s one, there are always more.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

Kioni-Sadiki's tweet referred to a tweet opposing the arrival of Jewish immigrants to Israel. The tweet said: “Today, 225 brand-new white settlers, fresh off the plane from the US and Canada, landed in occupied Palestine to enable the further displacement, dispossession, and genocide of the indigenous Palestinian people. / Colonization in real time.”

On September 1, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki posted on Instagram: “InstaGram just removed a post in which i said real justice would mean the Israeli-Zionists would be on trial instead of the Palestinian people...”

On November 4, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “...Zionists/white supremacist imperialists be always united!!!!”

Her tweet was in response to a post that said: “There's no ‘secret,’ though! Zionists want ONLY pro-Zionist, pro-Capitalist, pro-Imperialist, Neoliberal Politicians in office; who will not critique or struggle against Zionist Imperialism, Oppression, Apartheid, and exploitation (in the U.S. or elsewhere else)!🤷🏾‍♂️.”

Hatred of Israel

On August 24, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki posted on Instagram: “... the Israel gov’t & its military are committing EVERYDAY GENOCIDE - bombing homes, ambulances, schools, farms. MURDERING UNARMED CHILDREN, doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers…”

On June 23, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “like a brother said we are living in ‘the united states of Israel.’”

Her tweet was in response to a post that criticized the Israel Anti-Boycott Act (IABA), a proposed federal anti-BDS law that would allow U.S. states to enact legislation boycotting contractors that boycott Israel.

On September 26, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “SAY IT LOUD!!!” referring to Malaysia Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s speech at the United Nations calling Israel an “apartheid entity.”

On May 10, 2021, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “PALESTINIANS get no rest from WHITE MOB VIOLENCE, WHITE SUPREMACY & SETTLER COLONIALISM on their stolen land…”

In May 2021, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa compound following claims the Al-Aqsa Mosque was in danger. The subsequent incitement was a leading factor in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza into Israel later that month. Israel responded by launching “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza. Allegations of Jews “threatening” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque have been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews predating the State of Israel.

Hatred of America

On February 19, 2018, Kioni-Sadiki posted on Facebook: “in nyc, we been standing in front of movie theaters distributing palm cards that show the REAL LIFE Black Panthers still in prison for defending the Black nation here in amerikkka against self-determination, imperialism and colonialism…”

The term “Amerikkka” uses the initials of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) as a way to demonize America as “fascist or racist.”

On August 11, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “...since its founding, this country [America] that exists on stolen land has always been APARTHEID amerikkka!!!!”

Hatred of the Police

On July 1, 2022, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “the fact is POLICE MURDER PEOPLE....#DefundThePolice.”

On December 2, 2020, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted: “opposing Defund the Police demand is part/parcel the systemic state-sanctioned white on Black/Brown police violence that allows the serial murder of unarmed men, womyn & children…”

On September 17, 2020, Kioni-Sadiki tweeted a photo of a t-shirt that said: “Police murder people,” with the comment:“EVERY 23 HOURS!!!”

Biographical Information

Kioni-Sadiki was a member of the Black Panther Collective and, in 2021, she was active with the Northeast Political Prisoner Coalition (NPPC). She was also reportedly a member of the NYC Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition.

Kioni-Sadiki became the radio producer of a weekly show “Where We Live” on WBAI-Radio, Pacifica, in the summer of 2009. The show was a weekly program advertised as focusing “primarily on US political prisoners, the prison/industrial complex, repression, racism, police brutality and the devastating colonial situation in Puerto Rico.”

Kioni-Sadiki was the co-editor of the book “Look For Me In The Whirlwind: From the Panther 21 to 21st Century Revolutions,” published in 2017 by PM Press.

As an undergraduate, Kioni Sadiki attended [00:07:48] Medgar-Evans College, reportedly graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. She also received a master’s degree in Urban Affairs from the Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education at Queens College (CUNY).

WOL

Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.

Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.

WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.

WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.

WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
