Aliya Hasan

Aliya Hasan, fighting with police

Aliya Hasan [Aliyawa Jamal Hasan] harassed Jews, promoted violence against Israelis, expressed support for terrorism and called for Israel’s destruction. She is an activist who has also spread anti-Semitism, mocked injured Israeli soldiers and promoted hatred of Israelis, Zionists and Israel.

Hasan participated in anti-Israel activism and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of May 2022, Hasan’s Twitter and Instagram accounts represented she was the co-director of Canadian Defenders for Human Rights (CD4HR), a Canadian non-profit organization whose stated mission is “to defend the rights of humans of all backgrounds…"

Hasan was listed as the director of CD4HR since 2018. In July, 2021, she stated on Instagram that she was co-director. As of May 2022, the CD4HR website contained no information about the organization's work, events or campaigns.

As of November 2024, Hasan’s X page said she was located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

As of the same date, Hasan used the handle “@aliyahasan_freepalestine” on Instagram and Threads and “@aliyahasan_freepalestine48” on Telegram.

Harassing Jews

On July 1, 2022, Hasan and fellow CD4HR co-director Firas Al Najim organized an anti-Israel protest where activists confronted Jewish shoppers outside of Taste of Israel, a kosher grocery store. The activists chanted anti-Israel and anti-Zionist slogans. The incident occurred in Thornhill, Ontario, home to Canada’s largest Jewish community.

One CD4HR protestor raised her middle finger to Israel supporters and shouted [00:00:01]: “Shabbat Shalom, b**ches!,” mocking a term Jews use to greet each other on the Sabbath. Police arrested at least one protestor at the shopping plaza where the grocery and other stores catering to the Jewish community are located.

Hasan posted an Instagram video of the protest, where she joined in the chant [00:02:14]: “Zionism is terrorism! Down with Zionism!” Other protesters in the video chanted [00:02:26]: “...the State of Israel must go!” In the same post, which was dated July 2, 2022, Hasan wrote that she intended to “confront zi*nists in #Toronto…”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

Another protester shouted [00:00:07]: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.

On July 2, 2022, Al Najim spoke about the previous day’s protest in a CD4HR Instagram video, saying [00:02:25]: “We call to boycott certain companies that support the Zionist regime.” The post said: “#enoughisenough of this influential wealthy evil community that supports war crimes against the oppressed #palestinians day and night. @firas_alnajim speaks briefly about the recent experience on July 1st 2022 in #thornhill that they call the Jewish area.”

Promoting Violence Against Israelis

On August 7, 2022, Hasan posted on X: “Scores of ‘#israeli’ colonial squatters being evacuated out of the ‘Sderot’ squatterment due to rocket fire… / A prelude for what what’s to come when #Palestine is liberated… / #GoHomeSquatters #GazaUnderAttack #FreePalestine 🇵🇸.”

On April 24, 2022, Hasan posted to Instagram a video of a speech she made that day at an anti-Israel rally in Toronto. The rally, called “Toronto Rally for Palestine,” was organized by the Greater Toronto Area Palestine Movement.

During her speech, Hasan said [00:20:55]: “Israel has witnessed the deadliest attacks [against Israelis] that we have seen in the last 15 years all because of Palestinian freedom fighters that are putting their lives on the line to fight for freedom.”

Hasan also said at the rally [00:22:56]: “Palestinians have a right to resist … by any means necessary.” and “We will defend Al Quds [Jerusalem] and Al Aqsa with our souls and with our blood and Palestine will never die.”

The Jerusalem Post reported on the rally and Hasan said in an Instagram post that the article quoted her speech “word for word.”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks

On April 22, 2022, Hasan posted a flier on Instagram promoting an anti-Israel rally held on May 24, 2022. The image on the flier featured masked individuals preparing to fire slingshots.

In her post, Hasan invited participants to show solidarity with Palestinians who “continue to bravely resist brutal attacks by the ‘#israeli’ occupation forces on innocent worshippers at #AlAqsamosque, during #Ramadan. We cannot stand idly by while our people are subjected to violent settler attacks & vicious daily raids on our holy sites.”

On April 21, 2022, Hasan tweeted a video with the comment: “Footage documenting when the #Palestinian resistance in #Gaza fired a barrage of rockets into the ‘#israeli’ settlement of ‘Sderot’ South of occupied #Palestine. Resistance is existence! 💪🇵🇸 #FREEPALESTINE🇵🇸.”

On August 18, 2021, Hasan posted a video on instagram with the caption: “Resistance is justified when people are occupied! RESIST WARRIORS, RESIST! Long live the RESISTANCE! 💪🔥🇵🇸 #FreePalestine 🇵🇸.” The video featured a montage of Palestinians holding rifles and shooting into the air.

Support for Terrorism & Calling for Israel’s Destruction

As of November 2024, Hasan’s Instagram bio said: “...#FreePalestine 🇵🇸🔻RESISTANCE UNTIL LIBERATION🔻…”

The inverted red triangle is a symbol showing support for Hamas and Palestinian terrorism. It first appeared in propaganda videos produced by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, during its terror attacks of October 7, 2023. The symbol was used by Hamas to signify one of their Israeli targets.

On October 12, 2023, less than a week after Hamas’ October 7, 2023 terror attacks, Hasan posted on X: “... The oppressed have the RIGHT to resist occupation…#FreePalestine 🇵🇸

On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.

On June 23, 2024, Hasan posted on X a graphic of the globe with text that read: “Delete one thing from Earth that you think would make it better.” Hasan wrote in the post: “ ‘israel’ 🗑️🚮🧻/ #FreePalestine 🇵🇸.”

Anti-Semitism

On April 24, 2022, Hasan posted to Instagram a video taken that day from the Toronto Rally for Palestine where she said [00:16:29]: “By the way, there's no actual historical evidence of there ever being temples there. This is just Zionist propaganda they used to justify their atrocities against the Palestinian people, and their attempt to steal a Muslim holy site.” She also said [00:17:34]: “Zionists, that aren't even indigenous to the land. They're from America and Canada and Europe. And they don't even have semitic blood.”

One way anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is by denying [00:17:45] Jewish history, with the aim of delegitimizing restored Jewish sovereignty, attacking Israel’s legitimacy and portraying Jews as foreign to the Land of Israel.

On March 6, 2021, Hasan posted to TikTok a video titled: “Telling Jews to read the words ‘Free Palestine.’” The video featured a man approaching a number of visibly identifiable Jews in a supermarket and asking them to read the words: “Free Palestine” off his phone. The man was wearing a sweater sporting the colors of the Palestinian flag and images of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Later in the video, during a verbal confrontation with a Jewish man outside the store, the man said in Arabic [00:00:36]: “Yil'an ummak yil'an abak yil'an shaklak” [A curse upon your mother, your father and you].

On July 27, 2020, Hasan tweeted: “Palestinians did not impose the holocaust on the Jews. The current holocaust being imposed by ‘israel’ on the Palestinians includes expulsions, indiscriminate murders of children, medics, the elderly. All human rights violations perpetrated on an innocent group of people.”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

On May 10, 2020, Hasan posted on TikTok a video of herself speaking at an anti-Israel rally with the caption: “[This is] for all the zionazis [zionist nazis] claiming they’ve went back ‘home’ to ‘israel’....”

On May 8, 2020, Hasan tweeted, referring to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “He’s rolling in his grave now seeing Zionists do to the indigenous Palestinians what Hitler did to Jews in Germany. One Holocaust doesn’t justify another. Free Palestine 🇵🇸.”

Mocking Injured Israeli Soldiers

On May 7, 2021, Hasan posted a video on TikTok of an injured Israeli security officer. Above the video was written: “OMG another one bites the dust🤣.” Hasan added the caption: “Imagine if #Palestinians were actually armed. These ‘#israeli’ ‘tough guys’ wouldn’t stand a chance🤣#zionists #weak #Fyp🇵🇸#Jerusalem #free🇵🇸.”

On August 18, 2021, Hasan posted [slide 2] a video to Instagram commenting: “‘israeli’ military vehicle capsizes as Palestinian youth shower it with rocks & Molotov cocktails! 😁 😜#FreePalestine🇵🇸.”

On August 25, 2021, Hasan posted a video on TikTok, where she commented: “An ‘#israeli’ armored troop carrier capsizes while trying to load onto a truck at a military base in northern occupied #Palestine. #FreePalestine 🇵🇸.” Hasan added a TikTok sound effect which plays a laugh track over the video.

On April 20, 2022, Hasan tweeted a video of Israeli soldiers retreating from Palestinians throwing rocks at them. Hasan wrote: “Im laughing so hard today😂🤣😬‘#israeli’ diaper brigade startle easily and run away from the sound of thrown rocks during clashes that broke out with #Palestinians in #NabiSaleh village, near #Ramallah. Just imagine if #Palestinians were equally armed! #FreePalestine🇵🇸.”

Although romanticized as a form of “popular resistance,” rock throwing remains a deadly form of violence

On April 20, 2022, Hasan tweeted a video with the comment: “...😂🤣😂 ‘#israeli’ occupation forces & colonial squatters get a taste of their own medicine as they choke on pepper spray in the old city of #Jerusalem 😂🤣😂🤣 #KARMA #FreePalestine 🇵🇸.”

“Israeli Occupation Forces,” or “IOF,” is a derogatory name for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) used by anti-Israel activists to demonize Israel’s army.

Hatred of Israelis and Zionists

On July 4, 2025, Hasan posted on X: “They leave comments on your posts and block you right after lmao. Why are zios all such cowardly little c***s? 🤣.”

On April 24, 2022, Hasan posted to Instagram a video from the Toronto Rally for Palestine where she said [00:23:20]: “When they ask where are the settlers gonna go when Palestine is liberated? To quote Mohammed El-Kurd, Palestinian poet and activist that’s from Sheihk Jarah, I actually don't give a f**k.”

On April 18, 2022, Hasan tweeted: “Ugl* af [as f**k] on the inside & out but using #TikTok to get attention during a brutal military occupation on an indigenous peoples. Deluded gen*cidal soci*paths! Only a #racist #Zionist supremacist ideology can make one this out of touch with reality. #FreePalestine🇵🇸.”

On October 13, 2021, Hasan posted to Twitter a picture of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet commenting: “@naftalibennett promising more ethnic cleansing & genocide like the true war criminal he is😡 ‘#israeli’ Prime Minister #NaftaliBennett has revealed plans to bring 500,000 J*ws from the #US, #SouthAmerica, and #France over the next decade to settle in #Palestine. #ICC4israel.”

Hatred of Israel

On July 2, 2025, Hasan posted on X: “Our chants terrify them — so make sure you scream them louder! 📣❤️✊🏾🇵🇸 / FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA, PALESTINE WIL

“Free Palestine” is a chant that has been described as a "battle cry for the death of Jews.” In May 2025, two Israeli diplomats in Washington, D.C., were murdered by a gunman shouting “Free Palestine!” In June 2025, one pro-Israel activist was killed and over 25 were injured in Boulder, Colorado, when a man yelling “Free Palestine” firebombed them.

On June 30, 2025, Hasan posted on X: “DEATH DEATH TO THE IOF!”

On October 12, 2023, Hasan posted on X: “Are you kidding me?! What has resulted in war is the 75 years of incremental genocide of the Palestinian people at the hands of the most evil entity on earth!…while you bow down to your masters! Absolutely disgraceful!”

The modern State of Israel was founded 76 years earlier, in 1948.

On March 22, 2022, Hasan tweeted a photo from an article published by anti-Israel online publication Middle East Monitor reporting on Ukranian refugees landing in Israel. Hasan commented: “‘israel’ has launched an ‘Aliya express’ program to expediate the ‘immigration’ process for Ukranian Jewish refugees settling in occupied Palestine. They should call it ‘Genocide Express’ to be more accurate. @aliya.hasan_.”

Hasan captioned the photo: “The #Jewish Agency for ‘#israel’ has launched its ‘Aliyah Express’ program to expedite the ‘immigration’ process resulting in thousands of #Ukrainian #Jewish refugees settling in occupied #Palestine to live in illegal settlements on stolen #Palestinian land. #FreePalestine🇵🇸.”

On April 15, 2021, Hasan tweeted: “That [Israeli] fla* [flag] is synonymous with the ethnic cleansing and genocide of the indigenous #Palestinians and anyone proudly waving it is complicit in the evil it represents. Way to go John, you’ve made it clear you stand with war criminals LOL #FreePalestine 🇵🇸 #ICC4israel #WarCriminals.” Hasan’s tweet was in response to Canadian politician John Tory’s tweet on the same day in which he congratulated the Toronto Jewish community on Israel Independence Day.

On March 5, 2021, Hasan posted to Instagram: “‘israel’ isn't going to stop at #Palestine. Ever heard of the ‘Greater “israel” Project’? They're destabilizing the #MiddleEast because their goal is ‘Greater “israel…They want to take the land between the #Nile and #Euphrates rivers.”’ Her post was accompanied by two maps [slides 1, 2] often associated with the “Greater Israel” conspiracy theory.

“Greater Israel” is a conspiracy theory which claims that Israel plans to expand its territory to encompass most of the Middle East and chunks of North Africa.

Hasan added in the same Instagram post: “The objective of #Zionism has never been merely to colonize Palestine…the onus is on the entire world to speak up and stop ‘israel’s’ colonial settler expansionism project from destroying the Middle East and eventually the world. #freepalestinefreetheworld 🇵🇸🌍♥️🤞.”

On July 10, 2020, Hasan posted to Instagram a video of herself giving an interview on Press TV. In the interview, Hasan said [00:00:57]: “So it is very clear that Israel is committing ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.”

Press TV is an Iranian state-owned media outlet. It has broadcast stories that spread antisemitic conspiracy theories and hosted Holocaust deniers on its programs. The outlet also reportedly broadcast an interview with David Duke, former head of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), where he blamed Zionists for the 9/11 attacks.

Anti-Israel Activism

On May 23, 2021, Hasan posted [slide 8] a video of herself at an anti-Israel rally to instagram where she chanted “Viva viva intifada.”

Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

On April 28, 2022, Hasan posted a flier on Instagram promoting an anti-Israel rally. The text of the flier read: “denounce the attacks on #AlAqsamosque by the “#israeli” occupation forces & the ongoing war crimes being perpetrated on the #Palestinian people by the #apartheid regime." The flier featured a depiction of a child in chains with a backdrop of Al-Aqsa Mosque, along with the logo of her employer, CD4HR.

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.

Supporting BDS

As of May 2022, Hasan posted to Instagram two highlights titled “BDS” and “BDS🇵🇸”. Both highlights were dedicated to promoting the BDS movement. In the first highlight Hasan posted a photo of stickers that said: “BOYCOTT ISRAELI APARTHEID” and wrote [slide 8]: “Can’t wait to put these on all the @costco apartheid ‘israeli’ dates.”

On February 2, 2022, Hasan tweeted photos of labels that had been placed on Sodastream products warning customers not to buy them. Hasan commented: “Great job #Canadians! 👏 ‘Don't buy this product.’ Labels seen at some of the Rexall retail pharmacies in #Canada are warning customers against buying products which profit from ‘#israeli’ #apartheid in occupied #Palestine. #BDS #EndisraeliApartheid #FreePalestine🇵🇸.” The labels contained rhetoric that demonized Israel and a link to the BDS Movement’s official website was printed at the bottom.

In February 2016, 500 Palestinians lost their jobs when Sodastream moved its factory from the West Bank to southern Israel. Although the company denied that BDS had an impact on the decision, the BDS movement took credit for the factory’s relocation.

On July 24, 2021, Hasan tweeted: “#BDS is winning! 💪🇵🇸♥️🤞#benandjerrys #FreePalestine🇵🇸.” The post showed a photo of a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream with Al-Aqsa Mosque in the background.

On July 19, 2021, ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s announced it would stop all product sales in “Occupied Palestinian Territory.” The BDS movement celebrated the decision, calling on the ice cream company to boycott the State of Israel in its entirety. However, company owner Unilever overrode the subsidiary’s decision after multiple US states decided to divest public funds from Unilever.

On June 2, 2021, Hasan tweeted: “‘We call upon the🇨🇦 #Canadian government to impose military and economic sanctions on ‘#israel’ and to end its complicity in the oppression of #Palestinians.’ #Act4Palestine #BDS #FreePalestine🇵🇸.”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
