Alexa Avilés
Alexa Avilés has expressed support for terrorism, spread hatred of the police, promoted hatred of Israel and engaged in anti-Israel activism as a politician and activist in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). She is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
The DSA has spread hatred of America and praised America's enemies.
Alexa Avilés was arrested multiple times in 2021 in her policial activism, including at least one time while protesting alongside 2025 New York mayoral candidate and DSA member Zohran Mamdani.
Alexa Avilés has been a member of DSA's New York City chapter (NYC-DSA) since at least 2020. She endorsed Mamdani's 2025 mayoral campaign.
Mamdani's anti-America and far-left activist network, which includes the DSA, helped him win the 2025 Democratic Party primary. He won the general election in November 2025.
DSA's ideology includes anti-American and abolitionist elements. DSA justified Hamas murdering 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023. Notable members are activist Linda Sarsour and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.
As of August 2025, Avilés was listed on the New York City Council website as a council member representing the 38th District "currently serving in her second term." Her LinkedIn said she was located in Brooklyn, New York.
On April 18, 2024, Avilés was featured in a photo posted on X at an anti-Israel protest during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists. She held a sign that read: "NAKBA 74 RESISTANCE AND RETURN BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY."
Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.
The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by drawing a comparison to the Holocaust, known in Hebrew as the Shoah, meaning “catastrophe.”
The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
On January 13, 2024, during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists and their allies, DSA posted on X: "DSA demands an immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities by the US against Yemen and an end to military support of Israel..."
Following the outbreak of Israel’s 2023 war against Hamas, Houthi terrorists attacked commercial ships off Yemen’s Red Sea coast and launched missiles into southern Israel. Like Hamas, the Houthi movement is backed by Iran, and is designated as a terror group by the United States, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
The Houthi slogan reads: “God is the Greatest / Death to America / Death to Israel / A Curse Upon the Jews / Victory to Islam.”
On October 9, 2023, two days after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel and while Avilés was a DSA member, the group posted on Instagram a statement that said [slide 1]: "DSA is steadfast in expressing our solidarity with Palestine. / Today’s events are a direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime—a regime that receives billions in funding from the United States. / End the violence. End the Occupation. Free Palestine."
On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Many Palestinian civilians participated in and supported the attacks, and Gazans working in the targeted Israeli communities gave intelligence to Hamas on where to strike.
For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
“Free Palestine” is a chant that has been described as a "battle cry for the death of Jews.” In May 2025, two Israeli diplomats in Washington, D.C., were murdered by a gunman shouting “Free Palestine!” In June 2025, one pro-Israel activist was killed and over 25 were injured in Boulder, Colorado, when a man yelling “Free Palestine” firebombed them.
The statement further read [slide 2], referring to Hamas' October 7, 2023 terror attack: "...This was not unprovoked. / For over 60 years, Palestinians have faced ethnic cleansing, torture, bombings, and housing demolitions. Gaza is still under a blockade."
Israel and Egypt implemented a UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2011 to stop Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets. Hamas went around the blockade by smuggling weaponry through tunnels under the Philadelphi corridor separating Gaza from Egypt.
On April 20, 2021, Avilés posted on X: "...We must continue to fight for justice and organize for the future we deserve — where the police are defunded..."
On April 17, 2021, Avilés posted on X: "...This is the system I'm pledging to defund today. #DefundNYPD..."

On October 14, 2024, during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists, Avilés posted on X: "...The USA must stop arming Israel who is indiscriminately killing Palestinians and others in Middle East. #LetGazaLive #StopGenocideInGaza."
On June 11, 2024, Avilés posted on X, referring to the "Squad" member Jamaal Bowman: "...AIPAC and Republican mega donors have thrown millions of dollars into flooding the airwaves with misinformation and fearmongering against him."
The stated mission of AIPAC is to “strengthen, protect and promote the U.S.-Israel relationship in ways that enhance the security of the United States and Israel.”
The implication that AIPAC buys political support for Israel has been described as playing into “anti-Semitic tropes” that led to “centuries of stereotypes about Jews using money to control the world.”
“The Squad” is an informal group of eight Democrats who are “well known for being among the most progressive and left-wing members of the United States Congress.” The Squad includes Rashida Tlaib, who is connected to six Hamas-linked activists, and Ilhan Omar, who has posted anti-Semitic tweets, demonized Israel and endorsed BDS.
On March 11, 2024, while Avilés was a DSA member, the group posted on X: "'For decades, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has been a hawkish, warmongering, and bullying force in U.S. politics.'"
In November 2023, Avilés co-signed a letter condemning Columbia for suspending pro-terror campus groups Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), which had both expressed support for the October 7, 2023 terror attacks.
On May 15, 2021, during Israel's Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas in Gaza, Avilés posted on X photos from an anti-Israel rally and wrote: "Very proud to have marched in Bay Ridge with my daughter for Palestinian liberation.
..."
In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.
On May 11, 2021, during OGW, Avilés posted on X, accusing Israel of committing "atrocities."
On September 27, 2024, while Avilés was a DSA member, the group posted on X: "...Biden, Harris, and Netanyahu are all war criminals. Until we win an arms embargo every action of the U.S. war machine must be disrupted."
On October 25, 2023, DSA posted on X, referring to America: "The best tool we have to fight empire is a mass, resilient socialist organization..."
On March 22, 2022, DSA posted on X, referring to the U.S.: "Bringing the fight to win a union to the belly of the beast..."
On November 2, 2024, while Avilés was a DSA member, the group posted on X: "Cuba’s resilience is legendary, but the U.S. blockade’s toll is relentless...Join our campaign to stand with Cuba..."
On October 22, 2020, DSA posted on X: "Russia is not the problem. China is not the problem. The problem is a global system of capitalism..."
On May 7, 2025, Avilés posted on X: "Proud to launch...our slate of endorsed mayoral candidates, with @ZohranKMamdani ranked #1!..."
On March 17, 2022, Avilés posted on X: "Thank you @ZohranKMamdani! This is what principled leadership looks like!"
On June 14, 2022, Avilés posted on X: " @ZohranKMamdani."
On April 12, 2021, Avilés posted on X: "consider donating to @ZohranKMamdani's #Ramadan fundraiser..."
Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is America’s largest socialist organization. Its core ideology includes anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Western and abolitionist elements.
Following the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attacks against Israel, DSA condemned Israel, expressed support for Hamas, endorsed anti-Israel rallies and called for members to engage in anti-Israel activism. It condemned Israeli retaliatory attacks against the IRGC and Hezbollah, as well as the U.S. attacks against the Houthi terror organization, whose slogan reads: "...Death to America / Death to Israel / A Curse upon the Jews...”
DSA first endorsed the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement in 2017 and it has also condemned sanctions against countries like Iran and Cuba.
The group endorses far-left politicians on the local, state and federal levels. DSA also promotes anti-Israel agitators, including DSA members Rashida Tlaib, Zohran Mamdani and Linda Sarsour.
Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), DSA’s youth section active in high schools and colleges, has co-organized anti-Israel protests across the U.S. since October 7, 2023, particularly the April 2024 pro-terror encampments on university campuses.
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
