Yannis Arab
Overview
Yannis Arab is a lecturer who participated in a violent attack on Jewish students on a college campus and yelled antisemitic statements at them, in November 2023.
The incident occurred following a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left about 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.
Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 7] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.
As of November 2023, Arab, who has also been referred to as Yanise Arab, was listed online as a “Chargé de cours” (lecturer) in history at the University of Montreal (UdeM). He taught a course called “Domination and Resistance in the Arab World,” and one of his areas of expertise was listed as “Colonization and decolonization.”
As of the same date, Arab was listed online as studying for a PhD in history at UdeM. His LinkedIn profile said he was slated to complete his studies in 2025.
On November 10, 2023, Arab had reportedly been “suspended with pay” as a lecturer while UdeM conducted its investigation into the incident at Concordia.
Both Concordia and UdeM are located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
