Carla Freccero
Carla Freccero signed an anti-Israel letter during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists. Israel launched the war after the October 7, 2023, terror attacks.
Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands and kidnapped hundreds more that day. For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
The May 8, 2024 letter Carla Freccero signed accused Israel of “genocide” in its war against Hamas and showed support for the pro-terror campus encampments. It also endorsed elements of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
On October 20, 2023, less than three weeks after the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attacks against Israel, Freccero posted on Instagram a photo of a "protest button" that said: "END THE OCCUPATION / SUPPORT THE INTIFADA" on the background of a Palestinian flag.
The term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” carries the connotation of violence. Palestinian intifadas waged against Israel have been marked since 1987 by hundreds of hijackings, shootings, stabbings, bombings and suicide missions.
As of January 2026, Carla Freccero was listed as "Distinguished Professor" in the Literature and the History of Consciousness departments at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz).
