Israel United in Christ

Israel United in Christ (IUIC) is an African-American religious sect whose founder has called for the death of Jews and white people. IUIC spreads anti-Semitism, anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and hatred of America on social media and in its programming.

IUIC was founded by Nathanyel Israel in 2003. IUIC’s members self-identify as “Israelites,” a reference to the Black Hebrew Israelites (BHI), who claim to be the real descendants of the ancient biblical Hebrews.

IUIC is based in Mount Vernon, New York. As of December 2022, they reportedly operated 71 chapters in the U.S. and 20 internationally. IUIC’s national membership is estimated to be around 10,000.

IUIC aims to recruit 144,000 Black, Latino and Native American people who, they believe, will be spared by God during the End of Days, as foretold in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament. To this end, the group sends missionaries overseas, including to Africa and the Caribbean.

Among BHI groups, IUIC is considered one of the most prominent, holding the most public events and receiving the most media coverage. The group offers online classes and organizes street preaching and other community outreach activities. IUIC also reportedly holds annual men’s conferences that often include street marches.

The IUIC website indicates that the group is governed by three bishops and five deacons. Below them, the leadership is organized into captains, officers and soldiers. IUIC divides its U.S. ministry into five regions, each reportedly [p. 46] having “at least three leaders, comprised of either Deacons, Captains or both.” All of the organization’s religious leadership is male.

IUIC has been labeled a “cult” by former members. IUIC is also designated as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

IUIC leaders commonly refer to their members as “prophets” and regularly use militant imagery and language in their preaching.

IUIC is registered as a 501(c)(3) charity in Phoenix, Arizona. The group fundraises through their website and through online fundraising campaigns.
