Nathanyel Israel
Overview
Nathanyel Israel [Nathaniel Ray] has trivialized the Holocaust, called for the death of Jews and white people, spread anti-Semitism, promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and expressed hatred of America.As of December 2022, Israel’s Twitter bio said he was the “Founder and Bishop” of Israel United in Christ (IUIC). He refers to himself as “Bishop Nathanyel” and “Bishop Nathanyel Ben Israel.”
IUIC is an African-American religious sect founded in 2003, whose members self-identify as “Hebrew Israelites,” a reference to the Black Hebrew Israelites (BHI) who claim to be the true descendants of the ancient biblical Hebrews.
Israel is reportedly a former detective with the New York Police Department (NYPD).
In 2015, a civil rights action was filed against Israel and another NYPD officer in federal court for the false arrest of two black men in two armed robbery cases. Israel and the other defendant opted to settle the case for $250,000 to each plaintiff plus $250,000 in attorney fees for a total of $750,000.
By March 2015, Israel had already changed his name to Nathanyel Israel. He was previously known as Nathaniel Ray.
As of December 2022, Israel was located in Mount Vernon, New York.
As of the same date, Israel used the handles “@BishopNathanyel” on Twitter and “@natanyel7” on Instagram.
Trivializing the Holocaust
On February 16, 2020, Israel spoke in a Rave TV program on YouTube where he said [00:11:59]: “Germans and the so-called Europeans that got burned up. Six million you said, right? Six million got burnt up. They’re all the same race. They are the Edomites in the Bible. They are the devil.”Edom is a kingdom in the Old Testament. BHIs allege that Jews and white people descend from the wicked Esau, whose descendants are called Edomites. BHIs refer to Jews as “Edomites” to also deny that Ashkenazi Jews, whose ancestors fled to Europe, are descendants of the biblical Israelites. BHIs claim that they themselves are the real descendants of Esau’s righteous brother Jacob, who was the progenitor of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
Israel then addressed [00:20:11] the African hosts of the program, saying: “Now, let me show you how witchcraft works. You were so adamant about six million, six! Your ancestors! Your ancestors! Over 200 million died during a trans-Atlantic slave trade, but you don’t mention that as horrific. You mentioned the six million of another race. You don’t see this as witchcraft?”
Israel then addressed [00:20:11] the African hosts of the program, saying: “Now, let me show you how witchcraft works. You were so adamant about six million, six! Your ancestors! Your ancestors! Calling for the Death of Jews and White People
On July 27, 2019, Israel visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, an important site for Jewish prayer, where he placed [01:54:51] a note in the wall that said [01:55:22]: “Death to all Esau and all Idumea [Edomites]. Rise, Israel, Rise.”The Western Wall is a part of the retaining wall of the complex that housed the Second Jewish Temple nearly 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem. It is the last above-ground remnant of the Temple accessible to Jews since the Romans destroyed the Temple in 70 ce. The Western Wall is a focal point of Jewish mourning and prayer.
Anti-Semitism
On October 27, 2024, Israel posted on X a graphic featuring Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu next to Adolf Hitler with a caption that read: “THEY ARE THE SAME / NAZI AND ASHKE-NAZI,” and wrote in the post: “Isaiah 14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms.”
Ashkenazi Jewry originated from an ancient Jewish community in the Middle East, whose descendants settled in Europe. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

The claim that Jews were dominant in the transatlantic slave trade was propagated in a book published by the Nation of Islam titled: “The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews.” The book has been discredited in a work titled: “Jews, Slaves, and the Slave Trade: Setting the Record Straight,” by John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor of history, Eli Faber.
