Sharaf Jarrar

Overview

Sharaf Jarrar has spread hatred of Jews  and demonized Israel on social media. Jarrar is a supporter of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of June 2017, Jarrar’s Facebook page said he “studied” at Skyline College's Office of Admissions & Records, part of the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCD) which includes College of San Mateo (San Mateo, CA) and Cañada College (Redwood City, CA).

On June 12, 2017, Jarrar tweeted: “I start summer school tonight fml.” and added: “Skyline.”

Anti-Jewish Social Media Posts

On June 18, 2017, Jarrar tweeted: “Dirty yahood [Jew].” The tweet was responding to a photo of a pendant of a star of David.

On January 24, 2017, Jarrar tweeted: “Coos ookth ill yahood [Fk the Jews].” The tweet was in response to a tweet by Canary Mission that publicized anti-Semitic tweets by College of San Mateo (CSM) student Yara Elhindi.

On July 14, 2014, Elhindi “You're fking worthless pieces of shit. Fking scum of the earth. You belong in hell. The lowest of all lows. Fk you ya yahood [Jew].”

Demonizing Israel

Jarrar regularly shares videos on Facebook produced by AJ+ — a Qatari-funded propaganda media channel well known for spreading misinformation and lies about Israel.

On June 1, 2017, Jarrar shared on Facebook produced an AJ+- produced video that presented a Palestinian terrorist —  Nof Ikab Abed al-Afar — as an innocent victim of Israel. Al-Afar was shot after she attempted to stab an Israeli soldier at a checkpoint near the entrance to Mevo Dotan.

On April 27, 2017, Jarrar shared a video on Facebook supporting Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli prisons. The video featured Khader Adnan.

Khader Adnan was a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization. A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.

The hunger strike was initiated by Marwan Barghouti, who was serving five consecutive life sentences for his role in suicide bombings — and shooting attacks against Israelis that killed five people during the Second Intifada.

Barghouti financed the guitar-case bomb used in the Sbarro Cafe massacre. Also among the hunger strikers was Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Secretary General Ahmad Sa’adat.

More than 1,000 other Palestinian prisoners participated in the hunger strike — most of whom were also convicted for acts of terrorism.

On October 2, 2016, Jarrar shared a video on Facebook by AJ+, that propagated serial lies about Israel and the history of the Israeli-Arab conflict. The bogus claims were quickly refuted by The Israel Project, in a video highlighting AJ+’s inaccuracies and deceptions.

On June 27, 2016, Jarrar shared on Facebook a misleading AJ+ video demonizing Israel. The video’s presenter, Dena Takruri, mischaracterized Israel’s security fence — 97% of which is a low chain link barrier — as an 8 meter-high wall running 280 miles. The video also falsely insinuated that a non-binding advisory opinion on the security fence issued by the International Court of Justice is binding international law.

On July 13, 2014, Jarrar attended an anti-Israel protest and held a sign featuring a drawing of Handala —  the logo of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement — urinating on an Israeli flag. The sign also read “Israel is doing what the Nazis did to the Jews to the Palestinians.”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
