Sabrina Jeylanii

Overview

Sabrina Jeylanii has promoted incitement, spread anti-Semitism and anti-Israel conspiracy theories on Facebook. She has also spread hatred of Israel and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Jeylanii promoted the UMN Divest campaign at the University of Minnesota (UMN) launched by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at UMN in 2016.

In 2014, Jeylanii was affiliated with the anti-Israel Anti-War Committee (AWC), a group that has campaigned to end U.S. aid to Israel.

In May 2013, Jeylanii indicated on Facebook that she was a student at UMN and about to become a Sophomore.

Promoting Incitement

On October 16, 2015, Jeylanii shared a Facebook post that included a quote that read: “We’ve been warning for months that what they’re doing in Al-Aqsa will spark an intifada, and no one listened, and now everyone’s asking what happened.’”

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians. The attacks were incited by Palestinian leaders propagating the libel that Israel intended to desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

On October 16, 2015, Jeylanii also shared to Facebook a video of Ahmed Manasra, with the caption: “Israeli Zionists curse a dying Palestinian child as Israeli Police watch.

’Two Palestinian children aging 12 and 13 were shot in cold blood north of Jerusalem today. Medical assistance was not offered, which led to the older child's death. His name was Ahmad Manasra and his last moments were documented in this video.’”

Ahmed Manasra (sometimes spelled Mansara) and his 15-year-old cousin Hassan went on a stabbing spree in Jerusalem on October 12, 2015, during the Knife Intifada. They critically wounded a 13-year-old boy and moderately wounded a 25-year-old man. The spree ended when police shot Hassan and a passing motorist hit Ahmed. Ahmed was taken to an Israeli hospital. He admitted to investigators: “I went there to stab Jews.” He was later tried and convicted on two counts of attempted murder.

Also on October 16, 2015, Jeylanii shared to Facebook a post that read: “More than 10 Israeli police surrounded a young Palestinian female, then shot fire together. Jerusalem.” The post featured a photo of Marah Al-Bakri.

In October 2015, 16-year-old Marah Al-Bakri [Marah Bakir] stabbed an Israeli border police officer and tried to grab his weapon before she was shot.

On March 8, 2016, Jeylanii shared to Facebook a photo album of anti-Israel agitatorsincluding kheffiyeh-masked Palestinian women firing sling shots, brandishing firearms and collecting stones of various sizes for throwing. Jeylanii wrote: “Brave souls. May god soon grant them justice & peace.”

Anti-Semitism

On February 4, 2016, Jeylanii responded to a comment on one of her Facebook posts, that read: “Next tweet ‘We are throwing the Jews into the ocean’ I can see that happening now.”

Jeylanii replied: “InshaAllah [Please God], I’m waiting for this day. #freepalestine.”

On December 8, 2015, Jeylanii shared a Facebook status that claimed that the 9/11 terror attacks was “a crime committed by the Israeli Mossad (Israel’s CIA) but falsely blamed on Arab Muslims.”

The status then went on to say: “A series of similar false-flag attacks have occurred all over the globe with the same Israeli intelligence fingerprints...this is now the ‘Jew’s civilization.’”

Anti-Israel Conspiracy Theories

On April 21, 2016, Jeylanii posted on Facebook an article headlined: “Israeli Forces Bury Palestinians [sic.] Kids Alive.”

On January 3, 2016, Jeylanii shared to Facebook an article claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bribed Republicans and wrote: “So, the Republicans were involved in a plot with Netanyahu (Pres of Israel), basically committed treason against the U.S. & the president. Hmm, no surprise, Israel runs this entire place.”

In the comment feed, Jeylanii was challenged for suggesting that Israel controls America. Jeylanii replied: “It's a fact that Zionist Israel has far too much power over our country, we all know that.”

Jeylanii then went on to say that “Israel controls the mainstream media.”

On December 9, 2015, Jeylanii shared on Facebook a link to an article titled: “Israel supports ISIS.” Jeylanii commented: “Of course.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On February 4, 2016, Jeylanii commented on one of her Facebook posts: “Israel is run by zionists. I stand with the innocent Jews, but don't stand with the Zionist, terrorist state called Israel.”

On January 29, 2016, Jeylanii shared a graphic on Facebook that featured an anti-Israel protester, holding a sign that read: “U.S. DOLLARS FEED ISRAELI WAR CRIMES.” The graphic also said: “Americans must have to stop paying taxes to their government, because their money is helping Israel to steal Palestinian land & killing poor Palestinian people. Wake up America!”

On January 3, 2016, Jeylanii stated in a Facebook comment: “Israel is a terrorist state. Period. They want to wipe off Palestinians off the face of the earth [sic.] & are doing a great job at it!”

On July 23, 2014, during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in Gaza, Jeylanii shared on Facebook a poster by AWC, that read: “FREE PALESTINE, END COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT AND STOP BOMBING GAZA! STOP U.S. AID TO ISRAEL.”

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

On July 13, 2014, Jeylanii shared a video on Facebook, titled: “Israel & Palestine: A Very Short Introduction.” Jeylanii wrote: “Wondering why & how the Israel/Palestine conflict started? must watch!#HistoryOfPalestineAndIsrael.”

The video was produced by the anti-Israel group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). It accused Israel of “institutionalized discrimination” against non-Jews and represented Israeli security policies as unjust. The video portrayed Israel as an oppressive force and described peace talks as “theater to cover a land grab.”
On July 12, 2014, Jeylanii wrote on Facebook: “Need a little more than 4,000 signatures!!!” The post linked to a petition, titled “Condemn the Apartheid State of Israel for their Human Rights Violations against the Palestinian peoples.”

On July 10, 2014, Jeylanii shared an image reading “Stop Israeli Terror in Palestine - Let's all change our profile picture.”

Promoting BDS

On February 15, 2016, Jeylanii changed her Facebook profile photo to an SJP UMN graphic with a caption that read: “UMN DIVEST 2016.”

Jeylanii wrote: “Read about the movement, sign the petition, and share, share, share! Help make a difference! #UMNDivest...”

On the same day, Jeylanii shared on Facebook a Jewish Voices for Peace (JVP) Twin Cities chapter letter that endorsed SJP UMN’s divestment resolution.

On February 15, 2016, SJP UMN launched UMN Divest, a campaign suggesting [00:01:53] Israel was like Apartheid South Africa and demanding [00:01:10] that the Minnesota Student Association (MSA) and UMNdivest from all companies “complicit in the Israeli occupation of Palestine.”.

On February 16th, SJP UMN issued a press releaseclaiming UMN’s divestment from four companies explicitly targeted by the campaign “would neutralize the University of Minnesota in this conflict [sic] …” and that “The call to divest is a response to the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.”

UMN’s Chief Investment Officer reportedly told The Minnesota Republic, a student-run newspaper at UMN, that the university had “no direct exposure” to the four companies highlighted by the UMN Divest campaign.

On March 8, 2016, the MSA voted [00:26:24] to strike the divestment resolution from the MSA agenda.

In April 2016, the MSA passed a heavily amended resolution that removed all references to Israel and any specific corporations. The amended resolution endorsed divestment generally from “corporations involved in human rights violations,” and from “companies profiting from human rights abuses and violations of international law.”

On March 7, 2016, Jeylanii shared on Facebook a music video calling for a boycott of the Israeli Hummus company Sabra for donating money to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

AWC Activism

On July 18, 2014, Jeylanii wrote a comment on the Facebook event page wall promoting an anti-Israel protest, organized by the AWC: “Amazing job everyone! Lets not stop there, hope you all continue to stand firm & speak out against the injustice! Come to more protests, continue boycotting, spread the word on social media, sign petitions, etc.”

The Facebook event page for the protest, titled: “Community March for Palestine,” said: “Stand with Gaza & all of Palestine against Israeli terror,” and “No US aid to Israel!”

Some attendees of the protest held [00:00:25] a sign that equated Israel with Nazism, while others accused [00:00:55] Israel of practicing apartheid. One sign said [00:01:20]: “Doesn’t the Holocaust teach us that it must never happen to anyone ever again.”

On July 20, 2014, Jeylanii indicated in a post shared on the Facebook event page wall that she attended the AWCprotest.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
