Rose Ahmad

Overview

Rose Ahmad (who also goes by the name of Abeer Ahmad) is a student at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).  

Ahmad is a member of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at MTSU and a supporter of the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement.

On October 25, 2015, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that read: “Morocco's new garbage bags LMFAO Reasons I'm proud Af to be Moroccan ” The tweet included photos of Moroccan garbage collectors collecting garbage into trash bags with stars of David, a Jewish symbol, stuck on them. 

Likening Israel to Nazi Germany

On July 20, 2014, Ahmad retweeted a tweet — posted during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE) — that read "HOLOCAUST IN #GAZA NOW!"

On August 11, 2014, Ahmad doubled down and retweeted a tweet that featured a photo of an anti-Israel demonstrator holding a Palestinian flag with text that read: "Stop doing what Hitler did to you."

Defending Hamas

On December 24, 2014, Ahmad retweeted a tweet: "Remember when Hamas captured one of the many residing American journalists in Gaza and threatened to kill him? Neither do I.. #FreePalestine."

Demonizing Israel

On January 8, 2015, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that falsely claimed: "In the past 10 years 720 journalists have been murdered in Israel. The true killer of Freedom of speech is Israel."

On October 9, 2015, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that read: "America your ally IsraHell is targeting young Palestinians, it is not self defense. Our media is all hush about it."

The tweet featured a photo of 30 year-old Asra’a Zidan Abed, who was shot after she attempted to stab am Israeli security guard at a bus station and refused to heed commands by security forces to drop her weapon.

On November 3, 2014, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that claimed that Israel practices apartheid. The tweet read — "RT @Apartheid_Ads Ads Against Apartheid comes to Dallas, TX! #Apartheid #Palestine #Texas http://ow.ly/DJxHa."

Delegitimizing Israel

On April 27, 2015, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that read: "‘Our ancestors lived here’ no bitch.. They lived in Europe. U have no ties with ancient Israel even ur own Israeli scientist have said so."

On November 12, 2014, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that misleadingly suggested that prior to Israel’s establishment in 1948, the territory named Palestine was an independent country. The tweet read — “when zionists complain about palestine trying to 'wipe israel of the map', hold on a second isn't that what israel did to palestine” 

The tweet also made a libelous claim implying that the 1948 Arab-Israeli war was an ethnic cleansing of the Arab population.

On November 8, 2014, Ahmad retweeted a tweet that read — "Palestine coin from 1927." The tweet included a photo of a coin from the British Mandate period — engraved with Arabic, English and Hebrew — falsely implying that during this period the territory named Palestine was an independent country.

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations." 

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.  

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true. 

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”  

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
