Rawad Farhat

Overview

Rawad Farhat has spread anti-Semitism as well as homophobia and bigotry online. Farhat has also expressed support for terror and spread hatred of Israel.

As of July 2023, Farhat was a member of the Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) Calgary Facebook group since July 2014. SPHR is an alternative name for Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).

In August 2016, Farhat’s Facebook said he worked at Tim Hortons.

In 2013, Farhat indicated on Twitter that he was a student at Chinook College in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

As of July 2023, Farhat’s Facebook said he was located in Calgary, Alberta.

Also as of July 2023, Farhat went by the username “رواد فرحات [Rawad Farhat]” and the handle “@rawadfarhats” on Twitter.

Anti-Semitism

On May 27, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “... haha sorry didnt mean to follow a Jew.”

On May 15, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “Seriously though.The Jews are doing exactly what hitler did to them #nakba since 1948. #Palestine.”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

On May 14, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “Eat pray live like a muslim. Spend and use money like a Jew.”

On January 21, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “People that say your free Palestine tweets are annoying dont care about innocent people don't care about the world. And are Jew supporters.”

On January 10, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “My dad is an engineer. Why is he so cheap he worse then a jew. Things I don't understand…”

On November 14, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “S**t is going down on my picture on instagram. Hahaha

stupid Jew rot in hell like the rest of them.”

Farhat then added: “... well its free speech you don't like it ignore it cause all the Muslims don't like Jews and half the world as well.”

On June 23, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “Spent so much money in a hour. That's it I'm being a Jew with my money.”

On May 9, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “I only get kicked out of class cause of the stupid Jew @lizakorolenko”

On March 26, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “It's not israel its called Palestine. Tare down that stupid wall and get rid of the Jews.”

On February 2, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “My aunt goes to holt renfrew twice a week and spends thousands. When it comes to other stores she's cheaper then a jew.”

Homophobia and Bigotry

On November 27, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “F**k you piece of s**t afghani. You poor gay a** fagget.”

On April 11, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “White ppl i can't stand them. Thank god im a muslim.”

Terror Support (PFLP)

On May 17, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “Where can i go that makes t shirts. I want this on a t shirt.” The tweet featured a photo of Leila Khaled holding an AK-47 rifle and wearing a kaffiyeh.

Khaled is a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau.

Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

The PFLP claimed credit for the 2014 Har Nof Massacre where six people were murdered during morning prayers in a Jerusalem synagogue. The PFLP also claimed credit for the 2001 assassination of the Israeli tourism minister.

Hatred of Israel

On April 9, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “I think the middle east would be a way better and peaceful place if ‘Israel’ wasnt there.”

On April 10, 2012, Farhat tweeted: “I know ppl find it rude. But I'm proud I threw rocks at Israel at the Lebanon border going to do it again this summer.”

On May 3, 2013, Farhat tweeted: “Why are the Zionists so heartless?”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
