Nicquel Holmes
Overview
Nicquel Holmes has spread anti-Semitism, promoted hatred of Israel and assisted violent anti-Israel campus protesters. Holmes is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.Holmes has gone by [00:01:32] the name “Luna” in her activism. She has been active [00:01:20] with the pro-terror activist group Within Our Lifetime (WOL) as a “cop watch,” monitoring police activity during anti-Israel protests in order to “report it back” to WOL.
As of May 2024, Holmes’s LinkedIn profile said she had been working as a recruitment assistant for The City University of New York (CUNY) since July 2020. CUNY is located in New York, New York.
Also as of May 2024, Holmes’s LinkedIn said she graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (John Jay) with a bachelor’s degree in culture and deviance studies in May 2023. Her LinkedIn also said she studied “Video and Technology, Film/Cinema/Video Studies” at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) from January 2019 to May 2021. John Jay and BMCC are both part of CUNY.
As of May 2024, Holmes went by the name “Nicquel Woods” on LinkedIn.
As of the same date, Holmes went by the username “Luna Nirè” and used the handle “@luna4watermelonia” on Instagram and Threads. She used the name and handle “luna4watermelonia” on TikTok as well.
Anti-Semitism
On November 22, 2023, Holmes shared on TikTok a video in which a man claimed [00:00:26] it was illegal to do a DNA test in Israel because it proved “through your DNA that Jews around the world have no ancestral ties to the land of Israel.”One way that anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is to claim [00:06:46] that Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, do not descend from the ancient Israelites. This claim alleges that Jews are white Europeans who lack a connection to the Land of Israel.
On March 12, 2024, Holmes shared on Threads a photo of graffiti on the wall of a Dortmund, Germany, train station that said: “THE IRONY OF BECOMING WHAT YOU ONCE HATED.” A large blue and white Star of David combined with a Nazi swastika was painted in the middle of the graffiti text.
Holmes wrote: “The sad part is, we don’t even have to imagine.”
In a March 27, 2024, TikTok video, Holmes referred to [00:00:02] Zionists as “Zios.”
The term “zios” is a popular anti-Semitic slur used within anti-Israel and White Supremacist circles alike.
A popular anti-Semitic conspiracy theory claims Jews control the world’s finance, media and governments.
On May 6 2024, during Israel’s war against Hamas, Holmes featured in a Twitter video that was taken undercover at an April 19, 2024 anti-Israel protest. In the video, she addressed [00:02:54] Israel’s war with Hamas, saying: “The Jews are responsible. The Zionist Jews. Not all Jews. The Zionist Jews are European.”
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
In the same video, Holmes spoke [00:03:01] with an undercover journalist about Zionist Jews, saying: “They are responsible for 9/11 and anybody who lost somebody on 9/11. It is well documented.”
Anti-Semites often spread the conspiracy theory that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by Israel with the support of the United States, claiming the attack was a “false flag” operation mounted to instigate war against Israel’s enemies.
In the video, Holmes also claimed [00:03:06]: “Israel wants to grow its land from that little pocket where it’s at and wants to take over Syria. It wants to take over pretty much that whole Middle Eastern region all the way into the peninsula.”
“Greater Israel” is a conspiracy theory which claims that Israel plans to expand its territory to encompass most of the Middle East and chunks of North Africa.
Hatred of Israel
On April 13, 2024, also during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists, Holmes shared on Instagram a video that showed her laughing and mocking footage from the April 14, 2024, Iranian rocket attack on Israel. She captioned the video: “...HAHA / Israelis cry and panic after the Israeli Ramon military airport hit by Iranian rockets.”On April 14, 2024, Iran fired “Over 350 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, armed drones and rockets” toward Israel in an unprecedented attack. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and several international partners intercepted 99% of the projectiles. The IDF named the operation Iron Shield. The missile attack took place during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists.
Iranian media claimed the attack was in retaliation for an alleged Israeli strike on an Iranian consular building in Damascus, Syria, earlier that month. The Damascus attack killed several members of designated terrorist organization Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including a senior commander and a brigadier general.
On February 19, 2024, Holmes posted on TikTok a video that featured the words: “Delete one thing from Earth.” Holmes wrote: “Issahoe [Israel] can go.”
The video played a song with the lyrics: “Israel’s a b**ch! Free Palestine! Israel’s a b**ch!...Y’all are terrorists! Israel’s a b**ch!...Committing genocide…”
On November 6, 2023, Holmes shared on Threads a video clip in which people chanted: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!” Holmes wrote: “Don’t stop talking. Don’t stop sharing. They need us more than ever before…”
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation. Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, over 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.
Assisting Violent Campus Protesters
In April 2024, Holmes served in her role as a WOL activist during the Gaza Solidarity Encampment demonstrations established on the Columbia University (Columbia) campus in New York, New York. Holmes claimed [00:02:23] at an April 19, 2024, anti-Israel protest: “We are really focusing on just revolutionizing.”A May 6, 2024 video from the same protest featured [00:00:30] Holmes speaking with an undercover journalist. During their conversation, Holmes said: “At night is when things get really heated, ’cause that’s when the cops want to go home…If you’re going to [come back at night], mask up, mask up, cover your face.”
The undercover journalist then said [00:00:43] he was interested in helping protestors with “physical enforcement.” Holmes told him [00:00:47] to “just come out!...we’ll look to you for that.”
The undercover journalist then said [00:00:51] he wanted to “cause a little…mayhem,” to which Holmes replied: “Absolutely! We always need good trouble. That’s what we’re out here doing!”
During the same exchange with the undercover journalist, Holmes claimed she used to be a student at Columbia and that she graduated in 2022. However, as of May 2024, her LinkedIn said she graduated from John Jay in May 2023.
The undercover journalist asked [00:01:35]: “Are you a student?”
Holmes responded [00:01:36]: “I am not, I used to be.”
The journalist continued: [00:01:39]: “Where? Here at Columbia? You graduated?”
Holmes responded [00:01:39]: “Yeah. Yeah, graduated.”
On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up what they called the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the university's main lawn. Participants protested Israel’s war against Hamas and demanded that Columbia “divest from companies and institutions that profit from Israeli apartheid, genocide and occupation…”
The action had reportedly been planned for months and was organized by the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition, as well as Columbia’s banned pro-terror groups Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). The Columbia activists reportedly consulted with and received training from National SJP and other anti-Israel organizations.
The encampment was forcibly dismantled at the directive of Columbia’s president and administration. The NYPD [New York Police Department] entered the area, cleared the encampment and arrested more than 100 students. They were also charged with trespassing and suspended from Columbia indefinitely.
Two days later, activists created a new encampment. When divestment negotiations with Columbia failed, protesters illegally forced their way into the university’s Hamilton Hall on April 30, 2024. They smashed [00:00:55] through a glass-paneled door, broke security cameras and threw university property out of the windows.
While barricading themselves in the building, agitators kept three Columbia custodians hostage and stopped them from leaving. When the NYPD raided and dismantled the encampment a second time, they arrested more than 100 students, nearly half of whom were reportedly not affiliated with Columbia.
NYPD shared on Twitter photos of objects the police found in Hamilton Hall. These included knives, hammers, gas masks, ropes and a pamphlet that read [video 1]: “...DISRUPT/RECLAIM/DESTROY zionist business interests everywhere! DEATH TO ISRAELI REAL STATE! DEATH TO AMERICA!...LONG LIVE THE INTIFADA!” The term “Intifada” is Arabic for uprising or insurrection, and carries the connotation of violence.
The Columbia encampment reportedly inspired a wave of protest encampments across North American campuses, where pro-Israel students were blocked or restricted from campus facilities. Jewish students were reportedly harassed in several other ways. Some were told [00:00:02] to “go back to Poland” and [slide 3]: “Yahoodim [Jews], yahoodi [Jew], f**k you!” as they walked from campus to their dorm rooms.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
