August 10, 2022 - Leading an Anti-Israel Rally

El-Hillal led [00:41:53] protesters in multiple chants at a protest outside Philadelphia City Hall. El-Hillal’s chants included calls for violence and [00:00:02] for Israel’s destruction.

The rally, titled “Philly Stands with Gaza, was organized in response to Israel’s Operation Breaking Dawn (OBD) against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror group. Protestors marched in support of the Philadelphia Coalition for Palestine, a network of anti-Israel organizations including Temple SJP, Jewish Voice for Peace Philadelphia chapter and IfNotNow Philadelphia chapter

In August 2022, the terror organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) threatened attacks on Israeli civilians. Israel preemptively launched OBD. Both PIJ’s northern and southern senior commanders in Gaza, Tayseer al-Jabari and Khaled Mansour, were killed in targeted Israeli airstrikes. PIJ responded by launching more than 1,000 rockets toward Israeli cities.

El-Hillal led [00:41:53] the chants: “There is only one solution! Intifada, revolution!” and [00:00:40]: “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!”

Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

El-Hillal also led [00:00:02] the well-known chant: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!”, which is used [00:02:52] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel.

 Violence from Protesters

El-Hillal introduced [00:16:26] rally speaker Brice Peterson, who later marched with protestors and intentionally blocked [01:08:45] traffic. Patterson slammed [01:08:47] a hand on one of the cars, and when the driver tried to move past the protesters, Patterson threatened [01:09:27] the driver: “Don’t do it, do not do it! I will break that f**king window and beat the f**k out of you! Don’t you dare!”

 Spreading Anti-Semitism

Toward the end of the rally, El-Hillal led [01:27:13] the chant: “Free, free Palestine!” Less than a minute later, Ahmed Shaat, another protest leader who was holding a bullhorn, threw [01:28:01] two Israeli flags onto the pavement. Another rally participant, Mohammad Omaren, then burned [01:28:20] the flags. Shaat then shouted [01:28:57]: “Hey, hey! Ho, ho! The yahoodi [Jew] must go!”

While El-Hillal spoke, another protester held a sign in front of her that read: “Stop Israeli Holocaust against Palestinians.”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

 Hatred of Israel

El-Hillal led [00:00:12] the chants: “Brick by brick, wall by wall, apartheid has to fall!” and [00:00:28]: “Stop the crime! Israel out of Palestine!”

Johara Shamaa, another protest leader, led [01:29:38] the chants: “Israel, Israel, you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide!” and [01:30:07]: “Not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes!”

Photos posted on the Temple SJP Instagram page the day following the rally featured [slide 5] a sign claiming Israel was a “TERRORIST STATE.” Another sign accused [slide 4] America and Israel: “THERE IS BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS.”

Promoting a Neo-Nazi

On May 19, 2021, El-Hillal shared to Instagram a video featuring neo-Nazi Patrick Little after he was ejected from the California Republican Convention in May 2018. Little made the video while was campaigning for the U.S. Senate on a neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic platform

El-Hillal wrote in her post: “Patrick Little’s Views on Israel” and “#patricklittle.”

In the video El-Hillal posted, Little stood [00:00:01] on an Israeli flag and said [00:00:21]: “I will not bow to a foreign flag. I will not serve a foreign government. The Republican party…is nothing but Zionist stooges. They do the bidding of a foreign power that has committed terrorist attacks…” He then spat [00:00:41] on the Israeli flag.

Little also said [00:02:00] in the video: “We know there are Israeli fingerprints all over the 9/11 attacks. This is the flag of a terrorist country…”

Hatred of Israel

On May 17, 2022, El-Hillal wrote on Instagram: “What is happening in Palestine is settler colonialism, military occupation, land theft, and ethnic cleansing. A conflict means there is equal footing, which is not the case. There is an active oppressor (Israel), and an oppressed (Palestine). A colonizer (Israel) and a colonized (Palestine). It is not a conflict.”

Spreading Anti-Semitism

On May 24, 2021, El-Hillal shared to Instagram a graphic that said [slide 1]:
“ZIONISM = IDEOLOGY THAT CALLS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A JEWISH STATE, AS A REACTION OF WAVES OF ANTI-SEMITISM IN 19TH C. EUROPE. PALESTINE = THE LAND ZIONISTS CHOSE FOR THEIR JEWISH STATE…ISRAEL = THE NAME OF THE STATE THE ZIONISTS ESTABLISHED.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

One way anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is by denying [00:17:45] Jewish history, with the aim of delegitimizing restored Jewish sovereignty, attacking Israel’s legitimacy and portraying Jews as foreign to the Land of Israel.

Anti-Israel Activism

On May 15, 2021, El-Hillal posted a video to Instagram where she led protestors in chants at an anti-Israel Nakba Day rally and march, in Philadelphia. One of the chants she led [00:00:07] was: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

On May 22, 2021, El-Hillal led chants at a “Solidarity with Palestine” rally at Rittenhouse Square Park in Philadelphia. She led [00:00:01] the chant: “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” The rally was held two days after Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement, ending OGW.

On July 10, 2021, El-Hillal participated in an anti-Israel protest titled: “Philly for Palestine: March Against Israeli Apartheid.” Protesters at the rally reportedly chanted: “We don’t want your ‘two states,’ we want all of 48.”

The phrases “Occupied 48” or “48 Palestine” are two common ways that anti-Israel activists refer to the State of Israel.

The protest was co-sponsored by different local chapters of SJP, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and IfNotNow (INN)

One protester held a poster from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization with a quote that said: “VICTORY TO THE INTIFADA AND ALL WHO RESIST ZIONISM.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
