Maryam Hussain

Overview

Maryam Hussain has expressed support for a terrorist and spread hatred of Israel.

In 2021, Hussain expressed solidarity with Yasmeen Mashayekh, a graduate student at the University of Southern California (USC) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Senator who tweeted her desire to “kill every motherf**king Zionist.”

In April 2021, Hussain was affiliated with Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights (SUPER) at the University of Washington (UW). SUPER is an affiliate of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). She was an activist with SUPER in September 2018.

Hussain has engaged in anti-Israel activism and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of December 2021, Hussain’s LinkedIn page said she was an “Outreach Coordinator at ASUW [Associated Students of the University of Washington] Middle Eastern Student Commission” since October 2017. She was also listed as a 2019 graduate of the University of Washington (UW) with a bachelor's degree in Law, Societies and Justice.

Hussain’s LinkedIn also said she was a student at Bellevue College (Bellevue) from 2013 to 2016, where she graduated with an associate degree in Sociology. She was also a member of the Muslim Student Association (MSA).

Hussain wrote on her LinkedIn page that she was a Youth Coordinator, and Graphic Designer at Zainab Organization since August 2010 and was a Teacher at Zainab School since September 2015.

In December 2021, Hussain used the screen name “MARYam☃️🎄👩🏽‍🌾” and the handle “@inKqalaabi”on Twitter, as well as on Instagram

Hussain also expressed support for Hezbollah during her high school years.

Supporting a Terrorist

On September 15, 2020, Hussain tweeted: “y'all are ‘big name’ muslim journalists sharing news and stories about the palestinian liberation struggle, you are aware that it was a part the zionist agenda to Martyr of Qods, Qaseem Soleimani, dead?”

Hussain was responding to a tweet condemning a Muslim journalist who wrote on Facebook that he was rejoicing following the the assassination of Iranian arch-terrorist, Qassem Soleimani by the United States.

Qasem Soleimani was the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, a branch of the Iranian military that carries out secret foreign operations. He was reportedly the second most powerful person in Iran. The United States designated Soleimani as a terrorist in 2011. In January 2020, the U.S. killed Soleimani in a targeted drone strike.

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On May 17, 2021, Hussain wrote on Instagram about ongoing anti-Israel protests: “our weekends were filled with chants, slogans, and resilient speeches calling for the end to the zionist project of !$r@el [Israel] as well as it military allies around the world.”

Hussain also wrote that “jerusalem is STILL being considered a part of the illegal zionist entity.”

The protests were against Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls(OGW).

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

In the same May 17, 2021 Instagram post, Hussain wrote: “remember, the corruption which exists in many of our countries is a result of the active arm of the US & Israel. wherever you find corruption in the SWANA [Southwest Asia and North Africa] region, there you will find zionist influences.”

In the same Instagram post, Hussain shared photos taken at an anti-Israel protest in Seattle, where protesters held signs accusing Israel of “GENOCIDE,” including one that said: “END ISRAEL WAR CRIMES! THIS IS ETHNIC GENOCIDE.” Hussain also said in her post: “continue to protest, continue to write & call your representatives, engage in BDS on both a personal level but also institutional level. join your local SJP/SUPER’s @ your universities, and local palestine advocacy chapters.”

On September 13, 2021, Hussain tweeted: “you can always talk about palestine :) say something dirty about zionists lmaooooo [laugh my a** ooooof].”

Solidarity with Yasmeen Mashayekh

In December 2021, Hussain tweeted in support of Mashayekh who was [00:11:08] in the middle of a national controversy over anti-Semitism she spread on social media that year.

In October 2021, Mashayekh was listed as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Senator for USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering (Viterbi). In May 2021, she tweeted: “I want to f**king kill every motherf**king Zionist.” She also tweeted: “yel3an el yahood [curse the Jews]😌.”

Mashayekh has also spread violent hatred of Israeli Jews, called for the destruction of Israel and America, expressed support for Hamas and glorified terrorists.

Mashayekh was condemned after Canary Mission exposed her anti-Semitic tweets.

On December 9, 2021, Hussain tweeted to Mashayekh about a Canary Mission video about her, writing: “the red smoke in the bad too >>>> they didn't even realize how much cooler they made you look .”

SUPER Activism

On September 26, 2018, Hussain featured in a Facebook photo that was posted by SUPER UW, where she was tabling at an event.

On April 24, 2021, Hussain shared a SUPER UW graphic on Instagram promoting Palestine Awareness Week (PAW), co-organized by SUPER UW and Seattle SJP. The graphic featured photos of pro-Palestine sweatshirts and the post featured a statement written by SUPER UW.

Palestine Awareness Week (PAW) is a re-branding for American audiences of Israel Apartheid Week (IAW), originally presented as “an international series of events that seek to raise awareness of Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people” and build support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

SUPER UW’s text in the post said: “This Palestine Awareness Week @super_uw @seattleusjp and @wwusuper worked collaboratively to create a beautiful design that reminds us of our purpose and goals for the year ahead.”

SUPER UW’s went on to say: “Our student university groups all work to educate our communities on human right violations in Palestine and to support the Palestinian people through advocacy efforts. Our Instagrams are great resources to learn more & join in solidarity!”

SUPER UW’s continued: “As the last 7 days of our fundraiser dawn on us we are striving to meet financial goals that allow us to continue the advocacy work we do. If you love the design as much as we do & don’t want to leave it all up to chance, you can purchase a sweatshirt on our custom ink page! Purchasing an item directly allows us to continue campaigning, organizing, and hosting educational and cultural events for Palestine- now & in the future.”

SUPER UW added: “Find the page to make sweatshirt purchases by clicking the link in our bio, tapping the ‘Merch!’ link and making orders from there! You can also optionally donate more to our fundraiser by adding an additional donation at checkout!”

Anti-Israel Activism

On October 7, 2021, Hussain tweeted: “...when i did a silent protest in solidarity with the irvine 11🇵🇸 my zionist french teacher almost wrote me up for disciplinary action !!!!😡.”

The “Irvine 11” were a group of 11 University of California students, many of whom belonged to the Muslim Student Association (MSA), who were detained by police for disrupting a speech given by then-Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, in 2010. Ten of the students were charged with and convicted of two misdemeanors of “conspiring to disrupt – and then disrupting” Oren’s speech, and sentenced to three years of “informal probation.” The MSA was also suspended by the university.

On June 4, 2021, Hussain tweeted: “organize with your local students for justice in palestine! make sure not to give into pressure from zionists.”

On May 9, 2021, Hussain shared a flyer on Instagram promoting a protest titled, “NAKBA 73,” that was scheduled for May 16, 2021, in Westlake Park, in order to “SAVESHEIKHJARRAH.” The image featured multiple people holding rifles with a Palestinian flag in the background.

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

Supporting BDS

On July 20, 2021, Hussain tweeted: “...no one should be ‘stocking’ ben and jerrys ice cream. they are still operating in 'israel proper', which is still PALESTINE. #everyinch is the call by palestinians. yes BDS works, but this is really the bare minimum.”

On July 19, 2021, ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s announced it would stop all product sales in “Occupied Palestinian Territory.” The BDS movement celebrated the decision, calling on the ice cream company to boycott the State of Israel in its entirety. However, company owner Unilever overrode the subsidiary’s decision after multiple US states decided to divest public funds from Unilever.

On July 20, 2021, Hussain also tweeted: “they're still operating in ‘israel’. we should still boycott them lol [laugh out loud].”

Hussain was responding to a screenshot of a tweet by former Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, protesting against Ben & Jerry’s decision.

High School Hezbollah Support

On May 3, 2013, Hussain tweeted: “When I can't sleep I go on Instagram and look at #Hezbollah & #Nasrallah pictures. Lool #INeedALife.”

Hezbollah has long been known as an anti-Semitic and genocidal terror organization dedicated to destroying Israel.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah declared in 2019, that “In a future war, all of occupied Palestine will be struck by our rockets.” Nasrallah also called on Jews living in Israel, in 2017, “to leave Palestine and go back to the countries from which they came.”

In 2013, Nasrallah referred [00:00:19] to Israel as a cancerous tumor and in 2002,

Nasrallah said: “If they (Jews) all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.” He also declared: “If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew. Notice, I do not say the Israeli.”

Nasrallah also said in 1998 that Israel was: “‘the state of the grandsons of apes and pigs - the Zionist Jews.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
