Manolo De Los Santos, Participated in a Protest in Support of the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia University

Manolo De Los Santos glorified Hamas terrorist atrocities against Israeli civilians in October 2023, called for the destruction of Israel and America, and spread hatred of Israel as the founder and executive director of The People’s Forum (TPF). De Los Santos also called to overthrow America in May 2024 and participated in the pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia in May 2024.

De Los Santos was also arrested at multiple anti-Israel rallies in New York, New York, in early 2024.

The incidents occurred in the wake of Hamas terrorist war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron,” which was going on when De Los Santos was arrested and made his statements.

Hamas is a designated terrorist organization founded in 1987 that is dedicated to destroying Israel and killing Jews. Since 2001, Hamas has launched thousands of rockets at Israel and on October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped over 200 hostages, including children and the elderly.

Calling to Overthrow America

On May 26, 2024, BreakThrough News posted a Youtube video that featured [00:56:44] De Los Santos speaking at the People’s Conference for Palestine, held from May 24 to 26, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. The conference was co-organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM).

De Los Santos said [00:56:44]: “Our struggle for liberation is not going to be won in one battle. It's not in one moment, it's not in one day, it's not in one confrontation, and not with one tactic. Our liberation will be one with the accumulation of all efforts of all struggles, the bringing together of the fight to end the US blockade on Cuba and Venezuela.”

De Los Santos continued [00:57:15]: “We have to bring down this empire with one million cuts. And those one million cuts have to come from every sector of struggle in this room.”

Glorifying Hamas Terror and Spreading Hatred of Israel

On October 7, 2023, De Los Santos tweeted: “Long Live the Palestinian Resistance! This struggle for national liberation in Palestine has entered a decisive new phase against the genocidal occupation of their land & people.”

Manolo embedded in his tweet a promotional video on Twitter depicting Hamas terrorists training for the attacks that had taken place the same day. The first half of the video showed the terrorists in motorized paragliders invading Israel’s Gaza border. The second half of the video showed the terrorists breaking into Israeli homes and settlements, riddling the buildings and outside areas with bullets.

On the same day, De Los Santos shared a video of Hamas terrorists driving tractors into Israel’s border fence with Gaza, tearing it apart and shouting: “Allahu Akbar [God is great]!”

De Los Santos wrote: “The people have broken out! The heroic resistance of the Palestinian people is an example to all revolutionary movements. 2 million Palestinians have been held prisoners by the Zionists in the open airprison that is occupied Gaza.”

Also on October 7, 2023, De Los Santos tweeted: “Long live the beautiful resistance of the Palestinian People! The only ugly thing here is the cowardice of those who think there are two sides to this struggle!”

On October 8, 2023, the day following the Hamas attacks,De Los Santos spoke at a pro-Hamas rally in New York, New York. He said [00:24:43]: “If you listen to the media in this country, you will think the war started 48 hours ago. We know this war started 75 years ago. This war started hundreds of years ago when the British and the Americans plotted to create Israel with no consultation to the Palestinian people.”

The modern State of Israel was founded 76 years earlier, in 1948.

De Los Santos continued [00:25:14]: “We urge our comrades of Palestine: Continue to resist. We stand with you by any means necessary. We will use whatever we have in our hands, whether it is a rock or something else, but we will defend the Palestinian people.”

Following the rally, De Los Santos issued a TPF statement titled: “Our Statement on the Action Today All Out For Palestine.” He wrote: “When a government employs murderous violence to prevent an oppressed people from using non-violent forms of struggle it inevitably leads to the use of armed resistance. That’s what we are witnessing today.”

The people using “non-violent forms of struggle” to whom De Los Santos referred to were violent rioters in the 2018 Gaza border protests, who he claimed “were peaceful protestors who were gunned down simply because they were demanding the right to return to their ancestral homes that were illegally seized by Israeli occupation forces.”

On March 30, 2018, about 30,000 Gazans approached Israel’s border fence to join in “Land Day Protests,” which were also called the “March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests to spotlight the “right of return,” a policy discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation. Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.

As of December 25, 2023, Hamas had fired over 10,600 missiles from Gaza at Israeli communities, with Hamas claiming 5,000 the day it launched the attack. While Hamas was the main group involved, members of other terror groups also joined in the atrocities.

Many Palestinian civilians, including women and children, also participated in the attack. In several instances, Gazans who worked in the targeted Israeli communities gave intelligence to Hamas on where to strike.

In a December 2023 poll, 57% of Gazans and 82% of Palestinians in the West Bank supported the terror attacks. 42% of Gazans were supportive of Hamas rule, up from 38% before the attacks, and 44% in the West Bank supported Hamas, up from 12%.

Hamas began by launching thousands of rockets at Israel and using motorized paragliders “to infiltrate Israeli territory and secure terrain.” Terrorist ground forces destroyed parts of the border fence with Gaza, murdering and kidnapping soldiers.

Terrorists then turned their attention to 22 communities around Gaza, where they went house to house to savagely murder, mutilate and kidnap anyone they found. They executed children in front of their parents and parents in front of their children.

Terrorists beheaded children and babies, and massacred entire families, burning some alive who hid in their homes. Hamas terrorists kicked around the heads of beheaded victims like soccer balls. Israelis as young as an infant of nine months and as old as 85 were kidnapped and taken forcibly to Gaza. Hamas has not allowed the Red Cross access to the hostages.

Over 360 unarmed young men and women were surrounded and slaughtered at one music festival alone. Bodies were publicly desecrated, with some dragged through the streets of Gaza, then beheaded.

Women were raped next to the bodies of dead friends. Some were raped and then shot in the head. Others, including young girls, were raped and murdered or mutilated in other ways. Israeli officials opened an unprecedented investigation into the widespread sexual assault. Forensic analysis of corpses showed evidence of torture and rape. Hamas terrorists said they were given explicit orders to carry out the atrocities, including chopping off legs and raping the corpses of murdered victims.

A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.

Hamas intentionally targeted youth centers and elementary schools to execute and kidnap children. They also took stimulant drugs to give added energy to murder and maim. Nazis also took drugs during World War II to fuel their anti-Semitic massacres.

The atrocities were acknowledged as the worst single-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, including by U.S. President Joe Biden, who also compared Hamas to ISIS. Hamas attacked on the annual holiday of Simchat Torah, which that year was on Shabbat, the weekly Jewish Sabbath.

The Hamas atrocities against Israeli civilians are crimes against humanity according to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The mass murder generated great sympathy for Israel from many countries but led to countless celebrations among Palestinians and anti-Israel organizations in America that back the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Hamas called the October 7, 2023 terror attacks “Al-Aqsa Flood,” a reference to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before Israel was founded in 1948. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.

Calling for the Destruction of Israel and America

On November 5, 2023, De Los Santos tweeted: “It’s time to abolish Israel! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!”

On December 6, 2023, De Los Santos was featured in a TPF Instagram video in which he said [00:00:40]: “Because when we finally deal that final blow to Israel, when the State of Israel is finally destroyed and erased from history, that will be the single most important blow that we can give to global capital and to imperialism in our lifetime.”

De Los Santos continued [00:01:23]: “I know for a fact…that when we defeat Israel and the U.S. empire, we will actually have been able to know how to dismantle capitalism here in the United States.”

De Los Santos concluded [00:02:11]: “And most importantly, we want you to be revolutionaries in everything you do.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On January 18, 2024, De Los Santos issued a TPF statement titled: “We Will Not Apologize: Zionism is Racism!”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

In the TPF statement, De Los Santos wrote: “We make no apologies for calling for the destruction of an apartheid and colonial state that is actively engaging in a genocide of the Palestinian people…For us, Zionism is synonymous with colonialism and racism.”

In the statement, De Los Santos also called for “a democratic Palestine, as determined by the Palestinian people, based on the full right of return of all Palestinian refugees…Nothing will deter our commitment to continue fighting for Palestinian self-determination and statehood.”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

On October 12, 2023, De Los Santos tweeted: “...I support resistance because the only path to peace & justice is to confront the true source of violence: Zionism.”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

Participation in a Protest in Support of the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia

On May 1, 2024, De Los Santos was featured in a video uploaded to YouTube participating [00:02:35] in a protest held outside the Columbia encampment following protesters' occupation of Hamilton Hall.

On April 30, 2024, participants in Columbia’s second pro-Hamas encampment forced their way into the university’s Hamilton Hall, barricading themselves in the building and taking three Columbia custodians hostage. Protesters also vandalized [00:00:55] and destroyed university property inside the hall. A police raid on Hamilton found knives, gas masks, ropes and literature that read: “...DESTROY zionist business interests everywhere!...DEATH TO AMERICA!...”

On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up a pro-Hamas “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the university's main lawn. Many participants were arrested and the encampment featured multiple violent incidents, including taking over a campus building and taking a university worker hostage.

Activists protested Israel’s war against Hamas and demanded that Columbia “divest from companies and institutions that profit from Israeli apartheid, genocide and occupation…”

The action had reportedly been planned for months and was organized by the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition. The encampment was also organized by Columbia’s banned pro-Hamas activist group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the university chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). Activists reportedly received training from National SJP and other anti-Israel organizations.
