Karito Verdrehte

Karito Verdrehte participated in the pro-Hamas protest encampment at UofT in May 2024.

Karito Verdrehte is an activist who participated [slides 1, 2] in the encampment on the evening of May 2, 2024. She was wearing a keffiyeh around her neck and posed for photos with other anti-Israel activists.

Verdrehte posted photos from the encampment on Instagram with the caption: “When we say ‘one struggle one fight’ we mean it! / Liberation for ALL, from Turtle Island to Palestine…#freepalestine #stoptheoccupation #stopbombinggaza emojiCode - 1f1f5-1f1f8 ✊🏽...”

The phrase “Turtle Island” or “occupied Turtle Island” is a name that some indigenous peoples use for North America. The call to “decolonize” Turtle Island, shouted at anti-Israel rallies and backed by major anti-Israel activist groups, is a call for the destruction of the United States of America and Canada. Similarly, the call to “decolonize” Palestine is a call for Israel’s destruction.
