Joseph Bloom-Boedefeld was reportedly arrested at a sit-in during the anti-Israel encampment at Illinois State University (ISU) in May 2024.

On May 3, 2024, WGLT.org reported that seven individuals, including Joseph Bloom-Boedefeld, were arrested and charged with trespassing, and later “suspended and restricted from participating in university activities.”
Joseph Bloom-Boedefeld and the other activists had gathered outside the office of ISU’s president during the ISU encampment and refused to leave despite being given “multiple warnings about the ‘consequences for remaining’ past closing time.”
The encampment was part of a national movement on college campuses in 2024, during Israel’s war against Hamas. The encampments were also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
