Ibrahim Bharmal

Overview

Ibrahim Bharmal [Ibrahim I. Bharmal] participated in physically and verbally assaulting an Israeli student during an anti-Israel “die-in” protest at Harvard University (Harvard) in October 2023, less than a week after the Hamas terror attacks of October 7, 2023.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

Bharmal was reportedly the co-president of the Harvard South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA) as of November 2023

On October 8, 2023, SALSA signed a statement by the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) blaming Israel for the Hamas war crimes carried out one day earlier. PSC is an alternative name for Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)

On October 12, 2023, after days of public outrage over the PSC statement that SALSA signed, SALSA issued a statement attempting to retract its initial support.

On October 18, 2023, Bharmal participated in the anti-Israel die-in on campus, where he was involved in the incident with the Israeli student.

As of November 2023, Bharmal was listed online as a student at Harvard Law School (HLS), as well as Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government (KSG) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was slated to graduate from both in 2025.

Also as of November 2023, Bharmal was listed online as an editor for the Harvard Law Review.

On June 11, 2024, the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, located in Washington, D.C., tweeted: “Meet Ibrahim Bharmal (he/him/his), a rising 3L & an immigration law clerk working with our Trial Division.”

On June 12, 2024, a local FOX news report said that Bharmal’s new position allows him to “‘interview incarcerated and institutionalized clients,’ ‘represent juveniles and adults in institutional disciplinary hearings,’ and ‘respond to inmate letter requests for legal assistance.’”

Participating in an Assault on an Israeli Student

On October 18, 2023, Bharmal reportedly participated in an anti-Israel “die-in” protest on the Harvard campus. Protesters carried Palestinian flags and held up signs that read: “STOP THE GENOCIDE IN GAZA.”

At the rally, the protesters surrounded an Israeli student, grabbing and shoving him to the ground while covering their faces with keffiyehs. Bharmal was one of the assailants identified [00:01:54] in the video of the incident, published by the Washington Free Beacon.

Bharmal and other perpetrators were reported to the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) and the FBI’s Boston office.

On May 18, 2024, the Harvard Crimson reported that Bharmal was charged with assault and battery as well as violating the Massachusetts Civil Rights Act. He faced a potential sentence of up to 200 days in jail, with 100 days for each misdemeanor charge.

Head of a Group that Blamed Israel for Hamas War Crimes

As of November 2023, Bharmal was the co-president of the Harvard SALSA, one of the groups that signed an anti-Israel statement one day after the October 7, 2023 terror attacks when Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis.

On October 8, 2023, Harvard’s Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) released on Instagram a “Joint Statement by Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups on the Situation in Palestine.”

The statement backed the war crimes, including beheadings of children, perpetrated by the terror group Hamas against Israeli civilians. It read: “We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.” The statement also claimed the atrocities “did not occur in a vacuum” and that “The coming days will require a firm stand against colonial retaliation.” The list of student groups that signed on to the statement was later removed following public outrage.

For more information on the complete list of Harvard students involved in signing the statement, see here.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation.

Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.

A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.

For more information on the October 7, 2023 terror attacks, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.

On October 12, 2023, SALSA issued a statement on Instagram attempting to retract its initial support for the PSC statement.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
