Supporting Terrorists
Odeh was a key military operative [00:02:08]with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.
Odeh confessed, in a highly detailed account, the day following her arrest. In a 2004 documentary, one of Odeh’s co-conspirators directly implicated [00:10:53] Odeh as the mastermind.
In 1970, an Israeli court tried and convicted Odeh for her involvement in both bombings and sentenced her to life imprisonment. However, Odeh was released 10 years later, in a prisoner swap and emigrated to the United States.
On November 10, 2014, a Michigan federal jury convicted Odeh for immigration fraud because she failed to disclose her prior conviction and life sentence on her immigration application. On March 12, 2015, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
In 2017, after an appeal and a lengthy court battle, Odeh admitted to immigration fraud, was stripped of her U.S. citizenship, deported to Jordan and banned from re-entering the U.S.
On August 2, 2017, Marajda tweeted a photo of himself with SJP DePaul activists and Odeh, commenting: “#HonorRasmea because Rasmea dedicated her whole life for the liberation of her people. Honor her August 12 @ 7pm. http://Bit.ly/Rasmea1”
On the same day, Marajda tweeted: “#HonorRasmea bcuz Rasmea is the embodiment of the Palestinian struggle. She has been displaced, imprisoned & got her home demolished.”
On August 24, 2017, Marajda shared a photo of Odeh on Facebook and wrote: “In Ghassan Kanafani's book, Return to Haifa, he says a line that struck me. He says: "The motherland is the future’ or ‘الوطن هو المستقبل’. Rasmea paved the way for me to imagine that future that I once lost hope for and taught me to how to struggle towards achieving it. The struggle continues! Until victory, return and liberation!”
Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.
On May 22, 2017, Marajda shared a post on Facebook supporting and promoting the Dignity Strike, writing: “Today, I hunger strike in solidarity with 1600 Palestinian political prisoners on day 36 of the #DignityStrike #DignityStrike36. 1600 Palestinian prisoners have not eaten for 36 days. Today, I join them. #DignityStrike36.”
“Dignity Strike” refers to a hunger strike initiated by Marwan Barghouti on April 16, 2017. More than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners participated in the strike – most them also convicted for acts of terrorism. Barghouti headed the Palestinian Authority (PA) terrorist Tanzim force and founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. He was sentenced to five consecutive life terms by an Israeli civilian court for some of his crimes, including his role in the Sbarro Cafe bombing.
On January 27 and 28, 2016, Marajda was featured in photos shared on Facebook by SJP DePaul with SJP DePaul activists, holding up a sign that read: “DEPAUL STUDENTS STAND WITH RASMEA. JUSTICE 4 RASMEA.”
Support for Violent Protesters
On May 3, 2018, Marajda shared an image on Facebook with a graphic that read: “I WILL MARCH ON MAY 11, 2018 #NAKBA70CHI.”The graphic was produced by the US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and used on social media to promote a rally titled: “Protest for #Nakba70 &Right of Return: Stop The Massacre in Gaza” on May 11, 2018.
The Facebook event page description claimed the event organized to mark “70 years of the ethnic cleansing of almost 800,000 Palestinians from their homes and lands, at the hands of zionist gangs.”
The event organizers went on to say: “The Israelis have used unimaginable brutality in response to the #GreatReturnMarch in Gaza, using chemical weapons and murdering dozens of unarmed protesters, including members of the press.”
Spreading Hatred of Israel
On June 30, 2020, Marajda tweeted: “The state of Israel is literally the ~Karen~ of the world. One of the most vicious, white supremacist ruling govt in history of the world. #NoToAnnexation #FreePalestine.”On March 31, 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, Marajda tweeted: “Israel and US are biggest terrorism producers in the world #PalestineLandDay.”
Marajda attached a tweet by the US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) that said: “Palestinian political prisoners are detained by Israel in unhealthy, unsanitary conditions & are subjected to psychological & physical torture. Nearly 5k Palestinians are in Israeli jails –180 are children, almost 700 are sick, & over 200 have chronic diseases. #PalestineLandDay.”
The tweet also featured a cartoon of a Palestinian woman locked in a prison named Gaza, being attacked by skulls shaped like coronavirus cells, while an Israeli soldier wearing a mask blocks the entrance.
On November 30, 2018, Marajda wrote on Facebook: “trash trash trash - cnn trash fired Marc Lamont Hill because he spoke up for the Palestinians and defended our right to resist! I wanted to take out my anger in a creative way so i made this meme - enjoy. #cnnIsTrash#IStandWithMLH.”
The post featured a photo of a garbage can with the CNN logo on it.
During the meeting, Hill reportedly whitewashed Palestinian violence and accused Israel of “state violence and ethnic cleansing.” He also called for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea.”
In September 2018, during a U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) conference, Hill insinuated [00:31:01] that Israel poisons Palestinian water and seemingly approved [00:30:34] of violence against Israelis.
On January 26, 2018, Marajda was featured in a photo posted on Facebook by SJP DePaul, taken at an SJP DePaul organized Silent Protest and Rally.
On the same day, SJP DePaul posted a video on Facebook and wrote: “On Thursday, January 18, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at DePaul held a silent protest and rally in response to Trump's declaration of moving the capital of Israel to Jerusalem and to stand in solidarity with Palestinian children detainees like Ahed Tamimi.”
In 2017, the U.S. government recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocated the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in 2018.
The SJP DePaul post went on to say: “Let the world know that Jerusalem will ALWAYS be the capital of Palestine! #SJP4Jerusalem #Jerusalem #FreeAhedTamimi #WeCouldBeFree”
In the video, SJP activist Danya Zituni spoke to the crowd, alleging [00:02:25]: “The U.S. government is the primary political and financial sponsor of Israeli settler terror, land theft, and military occupation of Arab land and all of historic Palestine.”
Another activist claimed [00:02:55] that Israel has a “Jewish, Christian, and Muslim ban, a ban of all people who are righteous…”
On September 7, 2016, Marajda co-authored an article equating Israel with Apartheid South Africa with Rani Allan, the founder of the Palestine Solidarity Alliance (PSA) at Hunter College (Hunter), part of City University of New York (CUNY).
Marajda wrote: “The similarities between Apartheid South Africa and Apartheid Israel are many. The more we learned about the history of South African apartheid, the more we know the Palestinian struggle is connected to that of South Africa.”
Supporting Anti-Israel Agitators
On February 13, 2019, Marajda shared a graphic on Facebook of Ilhan Omar with a caption that read: “#ISTANDWITHILHAN.”On January 21, 2018, Marajda wrote on Facebook: “Ahed Tamimi is a Palestinian freedom fighter and she taught us how to fight. #FreeAhedTamimi.”
The post featured a graphic with a photo of Ahed Tamimi, with a caption that read: “FREE AHED TAMIMI.”
BDS Support
On December 29, 2018, Marajda wrote on Facebook: “Take Action: #RightToBoycott The Boycott Divest Sanctions (BDS) movement across the U.S. faces increased attack from Israel and its supporters. Twenty-six states have already passed various anti-BDS laws criminalizing the right of individuals and businesses to boycott Israel.”Marajda continued: “In the face of this assault, the #RightToBoycott movement has been fighting back…”
He concluded: “You can take action too! Join USPCN in spreading the right to boycott and divest all over social media. Change your Facebook profile picture to our frame, and tweet your support of #BDS using the hashtag #RightToBoycott.”
NSJP 2019 Blurb
The Conference partnered with numerous anti-Israel organizations and conducted their event in a clandestine manner.
2019 National SJP - Supporting BDS
The Conference website called to capitalize on shifts in the political climate, represented by the elections to the U.S. Congress of Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who both support BDS. National SJP speakers also reportedly drew attention to Rep. Omar’s support for the BDS movement as the Representative for UMN’s Congressional district.During the Conference, National SJP speakers reportedly “noted the success of past divestment campaigns at the University [UMN], which ultimately resulted in the passing of a campus-wide [BDS] referendum in 2018.”
The UMN resolution passed in 2018 by a margin of 3.4 percent of those students who voted, translating to approval by 6.18% of all eligible voters. Less than 13% of the eligible voters actually voted on UMN’s BDS referendum.
2019 National SJP - Rejecting Israel and Zionism
The 2019 National SJP Conference website indicated that the goal of their “solidarity movement” was to push for policies that “demanded the end of” the state of Israel, referred to as “the Israeli occupation.”The website clarified that “the Palestinian struggle against Zionism, extends beyond the confines of 1967, and well before the Nakba,” and was based on the rejection of Jewish national self-determination in Israel.
Nakba is an Arabic term for “catastrophe” and refers to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel.
2019 National SJP - Heightened Secrecy
The 2019 National SJP Conference required attendees to be “verified and vouched for” by an SJP chapter to which they belonged and required each chapter to register as a group. The conference also required each group to be verified by a “reference––someone who is NOT going to this conference but who is or has recently been a part of your SJP.”2019 National SJP - Partnering Organizations
National SJP partnered with other anti-Israel organizations to table, sell merchandise and lead workshops, including CODEPINK, Palestine Youth Movement (PYM), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN), Palestine Legal, Watan Palestine and the Adalah Justice Project.Keynote speakers included Loubna Qutami, Chair of PYM, as well as Taher Herzallah of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Other speakers included Miko Peled, Sandra Tamari, Suhad Katib, Chris Gazaleh, Clarissa Bitar, Tariq Luthun, Maytha Alhassen and Sima Shakhsari.
SJP DePaul - Support for BDS
On February 25, 2019, SJP DePaul shared a video on Facebook titled: “DePaul Students Protest Anti-BDS Legislation.”The post featured a video of SJP DePaul activists on campus opposing [00:00:06] the Congressional bill titled S.1 - Strengthening America's Security in the Middle East Act of 2019. SJP DePaul activists lined up, with duct tape covering their mouths, holding [00:00:20] various signs.
One activist held [00:00:37] a sign, referring to the Israeli Hummus brand, Sabra, that read: “SABRA IS MADE WITH PALESTINIAN BLOOD.”
Another activist held [00:00:44] a sign that read: “SJP DePaul stands with BDS…”
SJP DePaul - Spreading Anti-Israel Propaganda
On February 19, 2019, SJP DePaul shared a statement on Instagram by SJP at the University of Chicago (UofC) in support of Ilhan Omar, and commented: “Students for Justice in Palestine Chicago is proud to support Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar in her brave and frank callout of the Israel lobby and its attempts to purchase American support for the occupation.”On September 7, 2018, SJP DePaul shared a photo on Facebook of SJP activists manning a table with a banner that read “END ISRAELI APARTHEID” at an event called the “involvement fair.” The activists were promoting several books at the table, including “The Israel Lobby,” by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt.
The book decries the influence of “the Israeli lobby” and repeats an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory about Jewish control over foreign governments.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
