On October 16, 2023, during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists and while Farhat was the MENA TJU treasurer, the group posted on Instagram: "Let us come together to reflect, support, and share our thoughts through these difficult times following the tragic events of Gaza, Palestine. This is an opportunity for us to come together in support and learn more about Palestine and the Palestinian struggle...."
On October 18, 2023, MENA TJU posted on Instagram an anti-Israel letter co-written with Jefferson MSA.
The letter accused [slide 2] Israel of an "ongoing military occupation, apartheid, illegal settlements, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity."
The letter further said [slide 3]: "The Israeli military's brutal and vicious continuous bombardment of the Gaza strip - besieged by Israel for the past 17 years, known to be the largest open air prison in history."
Referring to Gaza as an “open-air prison” is a way to delegitimize the UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed in 2011 to prevent Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets. Following Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, the Israeli military discovered that Hamas went around the blockade by smuggling weaponry through tunnels under the Philadelphi corridor separating Gaza from Egypt.
The letter also compared [slide 3] Gaza to "an extermination camp" and accused Israel of committing "a genocide against Palestinians."
Anti-Israel activists compare Israel to Nazi Germany to insinuate that the plight of Palestinians has eclipsed Jewish suffering during the Holocaust.
On October 23, 2023, MENA TJU posted on Instagram a flyer promoting the anti-Israel protest titled: "National Student Walkout for Palestine," to be held on October 25, 2023. The flyer said: "END THE SIEGE ON GAZA NOW / STOP FUNDING GENOCIDE / LETS STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE."
On October 26, 2023, MENA TJU co-hosted a pro-BDS protest with the anti-Israel campus group Muslim Student Association (MSA) that demanded from Jefferson to "comply with BDS demands—including to divest from its Israel center and sever all ties with companies such as Starbucks and Raytheon."
