Firas Nabil

Overview

Firas Nabil has expressed support for intifada, promoted propaganda produced by Hamas and spread hatred of Israel on social media.

Nabil was an activist for Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Michigan, Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) from 2013 - 2014. He is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement..

In 2017, Nabil indicated on Twitter that he was a student at UM-Dearborn and that he graduated in 2014. In August 2017, Nabil's’ Facebook page said he worked as a “Design and Release Engineer” at the Ford Motor Company. In March 2019, Nabil’s Instagram page said he was an “engineer by day.”

As of July 2019, Nabil used the alias “Firas Na” on Facebook,

Supporting Intifada

On October 13, 2015, Nabil tweeted: “@djkhaled better drop a song about the intifada and call it ‘anotha one.’”

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

On July 6, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge (OPE), Nabil tweeted: “@zaatar_diva the third intifada.”

Israel commenced Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

On the same day, Nabil tweeted: “Intifada was never a choice of a leader, It has always been the decision of the people. #Palestine.”

On July 5, 2014, Nabil tweeted: “Armed with a slingshot and the hopes of seeing a free Aqsa, the third intifada has begun. #FreePalestine #FreeGaza.”

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.

Promoting Hamas Propaganda

On July 22, 2014, Nabil tweeted: “Here's a song dedicated to 6092065.”

The tweet referred to the ID number of Israeli soldier Oron Shaul — who was caught in a deadly ambush in Shejaiya, Gaza, by Hamas terrorists during OPE. The IDF later determined that Shaul was dead and that Hamas was holding Shaul’s body.

Nabil’s tweet linked to a song produced by Hamas, celebrating its capture of Shaul.

Two days earlier, on July 20, 2014, Nabil tweeted: “Hamas has said that the 40 Israeli soldiers that they have killed were all at point blank range.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On June 23, 2016, Nabil tweeted: “Well, f**k Israel in general.”

On the same day, Nabil tweeted: “Also f**k Israel for giving me a hard time at the airport in my dream.”

On July 13, 2015, Nabil tweeted: “Israel is the biggest troll on the face of the planet.”

On September 30, 2014, Nabil tweeted: “Sep. 30th, 2000: 12 year old #MuhammadAlDurrah murdered in cold blood by IDF at beginning of the Second Intifada.”

The Al-Durah hoax is an iconic piece of anti-Israel propaganda, fabricated on September 30, 2000 at the start of the Second Intifada by a France 2 reporter.

On August 1, 2014, Nabil equated Israel with ISIS, tweeting: “The people of Palestine & Iraq are one in the same struggle.” The tweet featured a graphic comparing Israel to ISIS.

On July 31, 2014, Nabil tweeted a screenshot of a Facebook status that read: “I always thought that Israel controls Gaza. But today, I realized that Israel controls all Arab countries except Gaza.”

On July 3, 2014, Nabil tweeted a fabricatedquote, attributed to Albert Einstein, that read: “‘It would be my greatest sadness to see Zionists (Jews) do to Palestinian Arabs much of what Nazis did to Jews.’ ― Albert Einstein.”

On July 10, 2014, Nabil tweeted: “‘Satan can rest in Ramadan because Israel is doing his job.’”

On April 28, 2014, Nabil tweeted: “Israel would throw the US under the bus in a moment's notice.”

On November 4, 2013, Nabil tweeted: “My claim to you is like Israel's claim to Jerusalem, illegitimate & unrecognized. #PalestinianPickUpLines.”

BDS Support

On November 23, 2013, Nabil tweeted: “Glock in one hand, BDS pamphlets in the other.” A Glock is a semi-automatic pistol.

On January 18, 2014, Nabil tweeted a flyer to a BDS event featuring BDS founder Omar Barghouti and wrote: “Come out if you can make it. Share to let other people know.”

Barghouti has claimed [00:04:28] that international law grants everyone with Palestinian ancestry the unqualified right to settle in Israel. Barghouti has also insisted [01:18:21]that the demands of BDS are “inflexible” and “non-negotiable.

On November 14, 2016, Nabil tweeted a link to a “#UMDivest alumni letter of support” and called on his “UM and UMD fam” to sign the letter.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
