The “Israel Lobby” is a conspiracy theory alleging Israeli and Jewish control over the U.S. government. Proponents of the theory decry the negative effects on American interests, particularly in foreign policy.
On October 25, 2023, Silmi featured [slide 7] in an Instagram photo speaking at an anti-Israel protest, wearing a black hijab with a black-and-white keffiyeh around her shoulders.
The keffiyeh is a Palestinian headdress traditionally worn by men, which has become a symbol of Palestinian nationalism.
At the event, participants held signs that said [slide 1] “STOP FUNDING GENOCIDE,” and [slide 3] “UMBC STOP THE PIPELINE OF STUDENTS TO WEAPONS MANUFACTURERS” and [slide 9] “YOU CAN’T HIDE GENOCIDE.”
On November 8, 2023, UMBC SJP organized an event titled: “Al-Aqsa and the Occupation” to speak about “the significance of Al-Aqsa mosque in Islam and how it has been weaponized by the occupation against Palestinian Muslims.”
The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
On November 29, 2023, UMBC SJP organized an event titled: “SHUT DOWN COMMONS” to mark the “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People…” to honor the “martyrs killed at the hands of the brutal occupation…”
On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly voted on and adopted Resolution 181, also called the Partition Plan, which provided for the establishment of two states in the land of Israel, one for the Arabs and one for the Jews. The Jews accepted the plan, while the Arabs rejected it. In 1918, at the end of World War I, the Ottoman Empire was dissolved and the territory called "Palestine" was transferred to the British Empire, which administered it under a Mandate until 1947.
