• Lamis Deek – Fanning the Flames of Anti-Semitic Assaults

  • Lamas Deek
  • Lamis Deek is an icon of the latest generation of anti-Israel activists. Rabidly anti-Semitic, Deek is not afraid to use tactics against Jews previously unseen on American shores.

Yet students of Nazi propaganda will recognize Deek’s tactics well: isolate Jews, demonize and then dehumanize them. Blame Jews for all of society’s ills. Put a target on every Jew’s back.

And that is how Jews in New York are feeling these days. In a hard-hitting article, “It’s Open Season on Jews in New York,” Tablet magazine notes some shocking statistics:

“In New York, street harassment, minor assaults, and even full-on beatings of visible Jews are almost a banality now … The city reported a 76% year-over-year rise in hate crimes during the first three months of 2022—attacks on Jews more than tripled, accounting for much of the spike.”

  • In addition, a recent study conducted by Americans Against Antisemitism found:

"that of the 118 adults arrested for anti-Jewish hate crimes in New York City since 2018, only one has been convicted and sent to prison."

  • Lamis Deek: Fanning the Flames of Anti-Semitic Assaults

    in New York

  • Deek is one of the major forces in New York’s anti-Israel crowd. Her shrill rhetoric provides background for the dramatic upturn in violence against Jews of New York.

“I think we need to take responsibility for the Zionists in our communities, and we need to start finding them, identifying them … holding every newspaper, professor, every teacher, every shop owner accountable for being part of genocide.”

    – Lamis Deek, January 28, 2016

Yet Deek’s accusations against “Zionists” are not contained to their supposed “crimes” against Palestinians. Trafficking in classic anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, Deek tells her audiences that “Israel is a global threat … Israel threatens everybody.”

“We know that where there is Zionism and there is Israel, there is violence! In El Salvador, they were training the torture schools … In South Africa, they were giving weapons to the apartheid regime. They were teaching torture in Iraq. They were teaching the cops to oppress the Black Liberation Movement.”

    – Lamis Deek, December 8, 2017

In fact, Deek claims, “What drives Israel, drives all oppression in the world!”

  • “We Love Hamas”

  • Deek also supports a bevy of terrorist groups – Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). At anti-Israel protests, where she features front and center screaming into a microphone, she characterizes these groups as:

    “They are global... global heroes!”

“They are global agents of world peace, they are global agents of progress and humanity!”

Unsurprisingly, Deek adheres to the same ideology as Hamas. That might explain why she professes her “love” for Hamas:

  • Who is Lamis Deek

  • Lamis Deek is a Palestinian-American lawyer, who was born in Nablus and immigrated with her family to America. She is one of the founders of the New York chapter of Al-Awda, a global Palestinian BDS organization.

The BDS (Boycott, Divest and Sanctions) movement seeks to end the existence of Israel as a Jewish state. Deek’s organization, Al-Awda, specifically agitates for the “right of return” of Palestinian to Israel. The “right of return” is simply another means to eliminate Israel.

Deek is also affiliated with the radical anti-Israel groups Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). In addition, she served as a board member for the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Deek is also the co-founder of the US Palestine Community Network (USPCN) and served as its national coordinator from 2005-2009.

  • The Delusions of Lamis Deek

  • In an effort to skew responsibility for all the world’s problems to Israel and Zionists, Deek engages in many lies and conspiracy theories.

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

“Hamas are freedom fighters! Freedom fighters!” This was a chant she screamed during an April 16, 2022 anti-Israel rally.

Two weeks later, at another rally, she added more terrorist groups to her list of “freedom fighters”: PIJ, the Iranian Al-Quds Force and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

These groups, she said, are freedom fighters “not just for the defense and liberation of Palestine, they fight for the safety and the protection of all people…”

  • Reality Check:

Hamas is a terrorist organization designated by America, the European Union, Canada, Israel and more.

Since its founding in 1987, its signature modus operandi are suicide bombings and rocket attacks against Israeli civilian targets. Hamas has literally killed and wounded thousands of Israelis.

Ditto for the PFLP and PIJ.

  • Terror Rebranded: the World According to Lamis Deek

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

Rasmea Odeh, a Palestinian terrorist with the PFLP is an innocent victim of Israeli “crimes” with which the U.S. justice system colluded.

On August 2, 2017, Deek tweeted:

“I #HonorRasmea by exposing U.S. Judicial and prosecutorial collusion in furthering, enabling, Israeli crimes.”

On November 10, 2014, Deek, a lawyer, tweeted:

“F**k the pigs who did this to RASMEAH ODEH. FREEDOM FOR RASMEAH!! DEZIONIZE THE GOVERNMENT, DEZIONIZE THE COURTS, ENOUGH!!!!!”

  • Reality Check:

In 1969, Odeh masterminded a bombing that killed two university students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate in Israel.

In a highly detailed account, Odeh confessed the day following her arrest. In 1970, an Israeli court convicted Odeh for her involvement in both bombings and sentenced her to life imprisonment.

Odeh, however, was released 10 years later in a prisoner swap and emigrated to the United States through fraud. She was caught and, in 2017, stripped of U.S. citizenship and deported to Jordan.

  • The 'Peacefully' Marching Violent Protesters

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

Violent Palestinian protesters on Israel’s border were “peacefully” marching. This delusion was reflected in Deek’s tweet on March 30, 2018, promoting a rally in New York:

“ins solidarity [sic] with the #GreatMarchOfReturn and to honor the 16Palestinians who were murdered in Gaza by premeditated israeli assassins as they peacefully marched for their right to return home.”

After claiming that the marchers were peaceful, on April 1, 2018, Deek tweeted

“It should be clear.....return will happen by all means made necessary by the colonizer.”

Deek’s tweet ironically included another tweet that featured an image of two Palestinian men brandishing assault rifles.

  • Reality Check:

On March 30, 2018, some 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza approached Israel’s border to take part in “The Great March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas to demand to return to Israel.

March participants sent scores of kites bearing explosive devices across Israel’s border, burning Israeli crops and homes. Participants threw Molotov cocktails, firebombs, shot firearms and threw rocks under the cover of smoke from burning tires.

The protesters also attempted to breach the border fence, which caused the Israeli Defense Forces to respond with live fire. Most of the Gazans who died between March 30, 2018 and April 6, 2018 were identified as terror operatives.

  • Bringing the Intifada to America 'Will Bring Peace'

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

Bringing the “Intifada” to America will usher in a utopian world of peace.

At a rally in Times Square on December 8, 2017, opposing the declaration of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Deek screamed into her microphone:

“It is the Intifada that will bring peace here in the U.S.! Long live the Intifada! Long live the Intifada!”

  • Reality Check:

Intifada means uprising or rebellion. Deek is referring to the three waves of violence in Israel carried out by Arabs. Here is a description of the First Intifada, which occurred between 1987 and 1993:

"During the first four years of the uprising, more than 3,600 Molotov cocktail attacks, 100 hand grenade attacks and 600 assaults with guns or explosives were reported by the Israel Defense Forces … more than 1,400 Israeli civilians and 1,700 Israeli soldiers were injured.”

During the Second Intifada (2000 to 2005), Palestinian terrorists carried out more than 120 suicide bombings, targeting Israeli civilians on buses and in cafes. In total, between the First and Second Intifadas, at least 1,300 Israelis were killed. During the Knife Intifada (2015-2018), dozens of Israelis were killed and many more wounded by Palestinian terrorists.

  • Stabbings: Acts of ‘Self Defense’

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

The stabbing attacks by Palestinians during the “Knife Intifada” were acts of “communal self-defense.”

Promoting a rally, Deek tweeted on October 5, 2015,

“Return to Popular/Communal Self Defense = Return to Intifada.”

  • Reality Check:

Beginning in October 2015, a wave of random stabbings and car rammings began against Israelis carried out mostly by young Palestinians. These attacks were dubbed the “Knife Intifada.”

Palestinian political and religious leaders instigated the intifada by spreading a lie. They told the Palestinian public that Israel intended to desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Historically, this libel was used as a common pretext for Arab attacks on Jews. It began long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.

  • Corona Conundrum

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

Israel denied Palestinians coronavirus vaccines as a way of committing genocide against them. On March 26, 2020, Deek tweeted:

“Israel appears to see #coronavirus as an ally in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.”

  • Reality Check:

All of Israel's citizens, including Arabs, were provided equal and free access to a coronavirus vaccine.

Further, according to the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Authority (PA) is responsible for providing health services to Palestinians under its jurisdiction. In December 2020, PA officials contacted Israel to request the vaccine, which Israel agreed to provide.

  • Ben Gurion Said ... What?

  • In Lamis Deek’s Fantasy World:

Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, advocated killing Arab women and children.

Speaking to a crowd at an “Al-Quds Day” rally in London on July 25, 2014, Deek falsely claimed that in 1948 Ben-Gurion said, “Strike women and children mercilessly.”

  • Reality Check:

This “quote” is just one of the many lies told by Deek. What Ben-Gurion actually said was:

“There is no other way than by sharp, aggressive reprisal, without harming women and children, to prevent Jews from being murdered...”

  • Connections to Within Our Lifetime

  • Lamis Deek and her organization, Al Awda NY, often join forces with Within Our Lifetime (WOL), a similarly aggressive anti-Israel organization based in NYC.

WOL is a radical anti-Israel organization dedicated to the complete destruction of Israel. The name refers to the group’s goal: the complete takeover of Israel by Palestinians “within the lifetime” of the group’s members.

  • Al Awda NY Logo
  • WOL Logo
  • Their aggressive and often violent street actions are billed as support for “Palestinian resistance and liberation by any means necessary.” The group stages protests in New York City in response to current events in Israel as well as to further their BDS agenda.
