Rodney Swearengin

Overview

Rodney Swearengin is a professor who equated Israel with Nazi Germany, expressed support for terrorism and spread hatred of Israel in early 2024, during an Israeli war against Hamas terrorists.

Swearengin posted his remarks on Twitter in the wake of Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023.

The Hamas terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 2] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

Equating Israel with Nazi Germany

Swearengin tweeted about Israel’s war against Hamas: “If you have ever wondered how ordinary Germans stood by and let the Holocaust happen, now you know.”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

On February 12, 2024, Swearengin tweeted: “Dance Parties Adjacent to Gaza Concentration Camp an Ongoing Thing.” He included a tweet from the same day that called a pro-Israel protest at the Gaza border a “rave.”

The terms “Dance Parties” and “rave” in the tweets were allusions to the Supernova Music Festival massacre, which was carried out by Hamas terrorists.

The Supernova Music Festival massacre took place on October 7, 2023 near the Israel-Gaza border. Hamas terrorists invaded the area in vans and paragliders in the early morning hours, slaughtering over 360 unarmed young men and women and publicly desecrating their bodies. Numerous Israeli soldiers who arrived to defend the festival participants were gunned down as well.

Women and young girls were raped and murdered or mutilated in other ways. Forensic analysis of corpses showed evidence of torture as well. Hamas terrorists said they were given explicit orders to carry out these and other atrocities at the festival, including raping dead bodies.

Anti-Israel activists refer to Gaza as a “concentration camp” because of the United Nations-approved [pp. 39–41], Israeli-Egyptian blockade of Gaza. The blockade was implemented in 2011 to stop Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets.

Support for Terrorism and Spreading Hatred of Israel

On February 23, 2024, Swearengin tweeted: “I know that Israel made up a lot of lies regarding Oct 7…”

Denial of the Hamas war crimes of October 7, 2023, among anti-Israel activists has been likened to Holocaust denial among neo-Nazis.

On February 22, 2024, Swearengin tweeted: “Do you support Palestine's right to armed resistance?”

Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.

On February 19, 2024, Swearengin tweeted: “Selective outrage over rape allegations is sociopathic. This is a key feature of the genocide cult.”

Swearengin’s tweet was in response to a February 17, 2024 tweet that included Hillary Clinton’s comments regarding rape being used “as a tactic of war” by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas raped women next to the bodies of dead friends. Some were raped and then shot in the head. Others, including young girls, were raped and murdered or mutilated in other ways.

Israeli officials opened an unprecedented investigation into the widespread sexual assault. Forensic analysis of corpses showed evidence of torture and rape. Hamas terrorists said they were given explicit orders to carry out the atrocities, including chopping off legs and raping the corpses of murdered victims.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation. Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, over 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.

On February 14, 2024, Swearengin tweeted: “F**k Isreal.”

On February 6, 2024, Swearengin tweeted: “...There are more than a few similarities among Jacksonian Indian Removal, the Nazi Holocaust, and the Zionist Nakba.”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
