Rebekah Mangels

Rebekah Mangels was reportedly arrested at a sit-in during the anti-Israel encampment at Illinois State University (ISU) in May 2024.

The profilee's activism occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, which Israel launched after the October 7, 2023, terror attacks when Hamas murdered nearly 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands and kidnapped hundreds.

The Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at ISU (SJP-ISU) said on Instagram that it organized the encampment, which was in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

In May 2024, Rebekah Mangels was featured on 25News Now saying [00:00:19]: "ISU would rather arrest seven students for staying in a building...than divest from genocide."

On May 3, 2024, WGLT.org reported that seven individuals, including Rebekah Mangels, were arrested and charged with trespassing, and later “suspended and restricted from participating in university activities.”

Rebekah Mangels and the other activists had gathered outside the office of ISU’s president during the ISU encampment and refused to leave despite being given “multiple warnings about the ‘consequences for remaining’ past closing time.”

The encampment was part of a national movement on college campuses in 2024, during Israel’s war against Hamas. The encampments were also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of December 2025, Rebekah Mangels' LinkedIn profile said Mangels graduated from ISU with a master's degree in communication and media studies in 2024 and is a communication instructor at both Heartland Community College (Heartland) and Millikin University (Millikin). Mangels' LinkedIn also said Mangels was located in Normal, Illinois.

ISU and Heartland are in Normal, Illinois, while Millikin is in Decatur, Illinois.
