Mohamed Abdou
Mohamed Abdou’s Participation in the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia University (Columbia), Support for Hamas & Anti-Semitism

Abdou is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
As of February 2025, Abdou’s curriculum vitae said he had Canadian and Egyptian citizenship.
Abdou made his pro-Hamas remarks in interviews and in tweets after Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023.
The Hamas terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”
As of March 2024, Abdou was listed as an author on the Al Jazeera English (AJ English) website. His bio on the site said he was “a North African-Egyptian Muslim anarchist interdisciplinary activist-scholar.”
Also as of March 2024, Abdou was listed on the Columbia website as a visiting professor in modern Arab studies at Columbia’s Middle East Institute (MEI) during the spring 2024 semester. Columbia is located in New York, New York.
As of October 2024, Abdou’s LinkedIn said he received a PhD in sociology from Queen’s University (Queen’s) in 2019. Queen’s is located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Professor of the Resistance
Author of Islam and Anarchism (2022).”Support for Hamas and Other Terrorists
Abdou’s post included an image of Hamas militants crafting weapons.
During the interview, Abdou stated [01:28:38]: “The warriors, the resistance fighters that were in Hamas, numbered less than 1,500. And look how they flipped the table, not only on an entire settler-colonial state with no definable borders, but rather on the whole world.”
Abdou continued [01:29:12]: “You don’t need a mass movements to change the worlds [sic]. You need a dedicated…few thousand that really are organized and know what it is that they’re doing, what they’re fighting for and what they’re fighting to replace.”
On November 3, 2023, Abdou tweeted: “Black Palestinian revolutionary Fatima Bernawi…”
Denial of Hamas War Crimes
On May 7, 2024, Abdou was featured in a video posted on X, in which he said [00:01:23]: “...there is no evidence of beheaded babies…”Hamas terrorists murdered at least 40 Israeli Jewish babies during its October 7, 2023, terror attacks. Some of the babies were beheaded and some were murdered in front of their parents.
Denial of the Hamas war crimes of October 7, 2023, among anti-Israel activists has been likened to Holocaust denial among neo-Nazis.
2/15/2024 - Spreading Hatred of America & Anti-Semitism
At the event, Abdou said [00:00:23]: “I don’t believe in representational politics. I am for ‘land back.’ This is indigenous land. That means indigenous sovereignty needs to assert itself.”
Abdou continued and said [00:00:34]: “Above all, I don’t pledge allegiance to no American flag. Let alone to no [American] Constitution. I don’t call myself an American and I have never called myself a Canadian.”
Abdou went on and said [00:02:00]: “Listen, the onset of decolonization is inherently a violent act. There is no undoing the violence...I have the power then to go organize with indigenous people and to center them in my life.”
Abdou then said [00:02:49]: “[How many people] center ‘land back?’ That becomes the question and that becomes the building premise. But that requires leaving of the land and building alternatives on the land because otherwise, I’m fudging and trying to fix, ‘reform’ the settler colonial order. I am not going to spend time doing that. It’s a white supremacist order.”
Abdou later said [00:03:27]: “How do we expose anti-Blackness within Zionist society?... And the white supremacy that animates Ashkenazi thought and discourse?”
Ashkenazi Jewry originated from an ancient Jewish community in the Middle East, whose descendants settled in Europe.
Abdou also said [00:04:08]: “I’m tired of going to protests and essentially hearing people say ‘Oh, genocide Joe [U.S. President Joe Biden] is not welcome here! This is our city, our city.’ It ain’t your city! This is indigenous land!...Just as much as if I was in Palestine, and I was a Jew and I was an anti-Zionist, I would say ‘This is not my land! Either I leave or I stand and fight actually with Palestinian people!’ I put my life on the line for indigenous people!”
One way that anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is by claiming that Jews have no connection to the Land of Israel.
Participating in the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia
On April 17, 2024, Abdou was featured [00:03:46] in a YouTube video participating in the Columbia encampment. The encampment was also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up a pro-Hamas encampment on campus to protest Israel’s war against Hamas and promote BDS. The encampment was forcibly dismantled and approximately 80 Columbia students were arrested.
A new Columbia encampment was erected, during which participants forced their way into the university’s Hamilton Hall, vandalizing [00:00:55] and destroying university property. They barricaded themselves in the building, taking three Columbia custodians hostage. An NYPD raid on the building found knives, gas masks, ropes and literature that read: “...DESTROY zionist business interests everywhere!...DEATH TO AMERICA!...”
On April 22, 2024, Abdou was featured in a video posted on X participating in the Columbia encampment.
On May 7, 2024, Abdou was featured in a video posted on X, in which he said [00:00:31]: “...I’ve taught…the last two weeks at the encampment…I actually was the first professor to do that…”
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
