Jamal Dajani

Overview

Jamal Dajani has expressed support for terrorists and defended the Hamas and Hezbollah terror groups. Dajani has also compared Israel to Nazi Germany and promoted hatred of Israel.

Dajani was affiliated with the General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS) at San Francisco State University (SFSU) in 2019. GUPS is an affiliate of the national campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).

Dajani is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of August 2023, Dajani’s LinkedIn profile said he was the co-founder and host of ArabTalk Radio in San Francisco. Dajani’s LinkedIn also said he had been the “Director of Strategic Communications & Media at the Office of the Prime Minister, State of Palestine,” from January to October 2016.

Also as of August 2023, Dajani’s LinkedIn said he had been a lecturer at SFSU’s Department of Race & Resistance Studies since January 2018. However, as of August 2023, he was not listed on the department’s staff page.

As of the same date, Dajani’s Facebook said he was a producer, journalist, and media and communications consultant

Dajani’s LinkedIn said he graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

As of August 2023, Dajani’s LinkedIn said he was located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Terror Support (PIJ, PFLP, PLO)

On September 6, 2021, Dajani posted on Facebook: “The Israeli Occupation searches for Palestinian Resistance.” His post included a cartoon that depicted military forces doing an aboveground search operation, while six men walked in the opposite direction inside an underground tunnel.

On September 6, 2021, six Palestinian prisoners escaped from the maximum-security Gilboa Prison in Israel. The escaped prisoners were convicted members of the terror organizations Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, who were jailed for their involvement in attacks carried out during the second intifada. All were recaptured by September 19, 2021, by Israeli authorities.

On September 23, 2020, Dajani tweeted in support of terrorist leader Leila Khaled: “Zoom, YouTube & other platforms blocked the webinar ‘Conversation with Leila Khaled’ despite @SFSU Pres Mahoney who wrote that the university ‘disagrees with and [is] disappointed by Zoom’s decision not to allow the event to proceed on its platform.’”

Dajani’s tweet was referring to Zoom and other online platforms canceling an event featuring Khaled. Anti-Israel professor Rabab Abdulhadi organized the event.

Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

On November 11, 2019, Dajani posted on Facebook a photo of Arafat. Dajani wrote: “Yasser Arafat was betrayed & murdered 15 years ago…”

Yasser Arafat was the former leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and is known by some as the “father of modern terrorism.” Under Arafat, the goal of the PLO was the violent destruction of Israel.

Defending Hezbollah and Hamas Terror Groups

On March 14, 2022, Dajani tweeted: “Next time Israel bombs Beirut, I expect @CNN to invite Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on the air to plea for weapons, foreign fighters and a No-fly zone.”

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has said: “In a future war, all of occupied Palestine will be struck by our rockets.” He has also said [00:00:19]: “Israel is a cancerous tumor!…The only solution is to eradicate the cancer.” Nasrallah has reportedly made multiple anti-Semitic statements, including calling Jews the most “cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble” people in the world.

On August 8, 2021, after a flare-up at Israel’s border with Lebanon, Dajani tweeted: “Hezbollah has the right to defend itself.”

Dajani attached a tweet from France 24 English from the same day that said: “Hezbollah vows ‘suitable and proportionate response’ to any Israeli air strikes on Lebanon.” The quote was from a speech given by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Hezbollah has long been known as an anti-Semitic and genocidal terror organization dedicated to destroying Israel.

On May 16, 2021, during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Dajani tweeted: “Journalists whitewashing Israeli crimes & slaughter of Palestinian children in Gaza, while criticizing Hamas’s rockets say that Hamas has instillations in the midst of civilian population, ignore to mention that the Israeli Ministry of Defense is in the middle of Tel Aviv.”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

On May 11, 2021, during OGW, Dajani tweeted: “There is no comparison between the damage caused by Hamas’ homemade rockets & Israel’s American made missiles.”

In May 2021, during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW), Hamas’s Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades website publicized some of its long-range missile capabilities, known to include a variety of deadly rockets. The rockets have killed and injured civilians, and damaged homes.

On May 5, 2019, Dajani tweeted: “‘Air strikes’? Didn’t know that Hamas has an Air Force!”

Dajani was reponding to a tweet posted by U.S. Senator Rick Scott on the same day that said: “Israel is responding to hundreds of air strikes against its people by #Hamas.”

Terror organizations Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza fired over 600 rockets at Israeli communities on May 4-5, 2019. Four Israelis were killed and dozens more were injured.

Comparing Israel to Nazi Germany

On July 10, 2019, Dajani tweeted: “Jews came to Israel ‘to be Nazis.’” He included a link to an article where he found the quote.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

On July 4, 2023, during an Israeli military operation in Jenin, Dajani tweeted a cartoon by Carlos Latuff. The cartoon depicted Palestinians being escorted at gunpoint by Israeli soldiers, and was titled: “Jenin Ghetto Uprising.” The cartoon reproduced the iconic photograph from the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, which depicted Nazi soldiers escorting Warsaw Jews for deportation.

In early July 2023, Israeli forces launched a two-day counterterrorism operation in the Jenin refugee camp. Its goal was to target terrorists and dismantle the terror infrastructure of organizations such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). By the end of the operation, the Israeli army had reportedly dismantled “hundreds of explosives, weapons caches and underground tunnels.”

Hatred of Israel

On December 6, 2017, Dajani posted on Facebook referring to Israelis as “Colonial Settlers from Russia, Poland, the Ukraine and Brooklyn.”

On July 29, 2018, Dajani tweeted: “I hate it when people say that ‘Israel is losing its moral compass’” since when did it have one?...”

On May 10, 2021, Dajani tweeted a video of an Israeli driver accidentally hitting a Palestinian male after he lost control of his car while trying to escape rocks being hurled at his car by rioters. After the accident, the driver was attacked by the rioters.

Dajani wrote: “Israeli Colonial Settler runs over a Palestinian youth...”

On October 11, 2021, Dajani posted on Facebook a photo of Israeli wines for sale. He wrote: “This Apartheid Regime wine is sold at Costco… of course, Costco won’t tell its customers that this wine is the product of an Israeli Colonial Settlement…”

On October 17, 2021, Dajani posted on Facebook a photo of an ad poster at a London bus stop that read: “NORMAL PEOPLE BOYCOTT ISRAEL.” He wrote that the poster was “inspired” by the cover of the book, “Normal People.”

On October 25, 2021, Dajani posted on Facebook a graphic that showed the map of Israel covered with the colors of the Palestinian flag and being sprayed by a cleaning product featuring the words: “ETHNIC CLEANSING…EST 1948…BACKED BY THE USA.” Text on the graphic said: “IT WAS NEVER A CONFLICT…IT’S ALWAYS BEEN GENOCIDE.” Dajani wrote: “Spot on…”

On March 14, 2022, Dajani posted on Facebook: “Quiz: where do crooks, rapists, war criminals and oligarchs hide?” He linked to a Reuters article about Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich being seen in Israel’s main international airport.

On March 20, 2022, Dajani posted on Facebook: “So Zelensky [President of Ukraine] in his address to Israelis, compares Israel’s struggle (an occupying power) to Ukraine resisting Russian occupation—OK, we must have all misunderstood the purpose behind Israel’s occupation & ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.”

On May 16, 2022, Dajani posted on Facebook a graphic listing the names of the signatories to Israel’s Declaration of Independence alongside flags of the various countries in the diaspora from where they emigrated to the Land of Israel. Dajani wrote: “In case you’re wondering, this is where the thieves came from…#Nakba.”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

On May 28, 2022, a day before Israel’s annual Flag March, Dajani posted on Facebook an image of a cartoon that portrayed the Israeli flag as a roll of toilet paper. Dajani wrote: “A cartoon depicting the planned ‘Flag March’ by the Apartheid Regime’s Kahanist KKK terrorists.”

On May 31, 2022, Dajani tweeted, quoting anti-Israel activist Steven Salaita: “‘An Israeli Jew with good politics is still a settler.’”

On June 1, 2022, Dajani posted on Facebook: “Apartheid is not fashionable.” His post linked to a June 1, 2022 Haaretz news article titled: “Israel Expected Many U.S. Jews to Make Aliyah This Year. It Was Wrong.”

Dajani retweeted a June 4, 2022, tweet by anti-Israel online publication Mondoweiss that said: “Zionism not only seeks to dismember Palestinian life and connectedness, but also the threads of signification that nurture steadfastness and resistance.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

On July 18, 2023, Dajani tweeted claming “Apartheid Israel” was a “racist state.”

Anti-Israel Activism (BDS, GUPS)

On June 9, 2022, Dajani tweeted: “You’ll be on the right side of history— Boycott Apartheid.” Dajani’s tweet was in response to a post by folk band Big Thief announcing their cancellation of scheduled shows in Tel Aviv.

On January 7, 2022 Dajani posted on Facebook: “It seems that many artists, including Aboriginal and arts organizations have withdrawn from the Sydney Festival in solidarity with the Indigenous Palestinian people living under Apartheid.” The post included a link to a promotional piece from the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) on the BDS movement website calling on artists “to boycott the Sydney Festival until it drops its shameful partnership with apartheid Israel.”

The PACBI piece also included a link to a petition from BDS Australia, which “called upon the Sydney Festival to reject Israeli government sponsorship” of the 2022 festival.

On November 12, 2019, Dajani reportedly spoke at a GUPS event titled: “We Will Return.” Dajani said: “Palestinian refugees have an inalienable right to return to their homeland.”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

On February 10, 2019, Dajani tweeted: “Hmm... maybe because BDS is the antidote to Apartheid.” His tweet was in response to an NBC tweet that claimed the BDS campaign was “reverberating in the U.S…But despite vigorous efforts to quash BDS, the pressure is mounting.”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
