Ariel Gold
Overview
Ariel Gold [Ariel Elyse Gold] has been arrested in the United States, as well as in Israel, for disruptions and was denied entry into Israel in 2018 for her Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) activism.Gold has mourned terrorists, defended a terrorist, promoted anti-Israel agitators and spread hatred of Israel and America. She also promoted anti-Israel propaganda and has exploited her children for anti-Israel propaganda.
Gold is the national co-director of CODEPINK and has been employed by the organization since 2015.
As of December 2016, Gold was reportedly a leader of the Ithaca chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). Gold was a Peace and Justice Researcher at Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA) and an activist for Interfaith Peace Builders (IFPB).
In 2016, Gold was an activist with the Ithaca Committee for Justice in Palestine (ICJP), formerly known as the Central New York Committee for Justice in Palestine.
On November 1, 2019, Gold indicated on Twitter that she would be attending the 2019 National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) Conference.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Gold received a master’s degree in Social Work from Binghamton University (Binghamton) and a bachelor’s degree in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University (Cornell).
Arrests
In April 2017, Gold was arrested for disrupting the launch of the congressional “Israel Victory Caucus.” Gold displayed [00:00:09] a banner that said: “Free Palestine” and yelled: “Israel is an apartheid state! It was founded on racism and ethnic cleansing,” as she was escorted out of the room.In November 2015, Gold was arrested by Israeli security forces, while participating in the weekly protest at Bil’in, which she called “nonviolent.”
Weekly protests at Bil’in have been organized since 2005. Although described as “non-violent,” these demonstrations have often turned violent.
Iyad Burnat is the coordinator of the Bil’in popular resistance committee, organizing weekly, often violent demonstrations against the Israeli security barrier since 2005. Burnat has repeatedly equated Israel with Hitler and ISIS. He has also claimed that Zionism is a “racist ideology” and accused “Zionists” of controlling American politics.
Gold also accused soldiers of using detainees as human shields against Palestinian rock-throwers during her arrest.
In March 2016, Gold was arrested for blocking an entrance to that year’s American Israel Political Action Committee (AIPAC) annual policy conference.
Gold was also arrested for blocking an entrance to AIPAC’s annual policy conference in March 2015. Gold and fellow CodePink activists also reportedly unsuccessfully tried to enter the conference.
Gold later admitted [00:00:51] that “It took us two hours to get arrested because they tried every which way not to...we chose to be arrested...to show the gravity of the crimes that AIPAC and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu are committing against the people of Palestine and the people of the world. ”
Denied Entry to Israel
In July 2018, Gold, who has described herself as “a proponent of using boycott and divestment,” was barred from entering Israel, due to her activism and support for BDS. CODEPINK, for which Gold is a national co-director, advocates BDS.Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan tweeted about Gold: “This evening, we prevented the extremist boycott activist Ariel Gold from entering the country. The policy I have set is clear: Anyone who works to boycott Israel and comes here to harm - won’t enter the country. The rules have changed, and the State of Israel will not shy away from anyone trying to hurt it.”
Gold wrote about being denied entry in an opinion piece in the Forward, where she further demonized Israel. Gold said that she was returning to Israel “to be part of the reckoning we as Jews must someday undertake for what we have done to the Palestinians.”
On July 8, 2018, Gold posted a drawing on Instagram by anti-Semitic cartoonist, Carlos Latuff. The cartoon showed an Israeli border guard rejecting the visa of a woman in a pink shirt with a BDS sticker on her backpack and a CODEPINK sticker on her arm.
Gold wrote: “Is this what the democracy looks like? Last week Israel denied entry to me. @codepinkalert and 19 other organizations have been blacklisted. Www.codepink.org/blacklisted (Image by @carloslatuff for @mondoweiss ).”
In January 2018, Israel published a list of organizations, including CODEPINK and JVP, whose activists are barred from entering Israel due to support for the BDS movement.
Anti-Semitism
In October 2019, Gold posted to Twitter suggesting that U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was partially to blame for the Tree of Life (Pittsburgh Synagogue) shooting a year earlier.Gold was responding to a tweet from Ambassador Friedman memorializing the attack. Gold tweeted: “Go away. You and your Jewish supremacy, white nationalism contributed to it happening.”
On July 13, 2018, Gold shared a photo on Facebook of two men holding masks to their faces. One man held a mask portraying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The other man held a mask portraying Jared Kushner, a Jewish advisor to the U.S. President, wearing a suit and tie covered in dollar bills and holding a sack with a dollar sign painted on it.
On October 22, 2016, Gold posted a meme to Facebook featuring a photo of Hitler and the caption: “I said glass of JUICE, NOT gas the jews.”
Mourning Terrorists
On November 12, 2019, Gold tweeted: “In case you aren’t paying attention. 7 killed in Gaza, including a woman.” Gold then listed the names of 7 Gazans killed earlier by Israeli airstrikes and added a screenshot of the Jewish Mourner’s Kaddish. The Jewish ritual of the Mourner’s Kaddish is a prayer customarily reserved for close relatives or Jews murdered for being Jews.
In response to the targeted killing of Abu Al-Ata, PIJ sent a barrage of rockets, numbering in the hundreds all over Israel, including its biggest civilian population centers.
PIJ, whose objective is “the destruction of the State of Israel,” has killed dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings, as well as rocket attacks and other attacks.
Four of the other five names on Gold’s list were reportedly also operatives of PIJ. The fifth, Mohammed Hamouda, was also believed to have been a terrorist operative. Another name on the list was Al-Attah’s wife, who was reportedly with him when he was killed.
Gold later deleted the tweet and tweeted out the text of the Mourner’s Kaddish, with the comment: “For all the civilians killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours.”
Defending A Terrorist
On January 19, 2025, Gold posted on X: “Such great news to hear that Khalida Jarrar is being released from Israeli prison today. Love to her daughter @YafaJarrar. May you get to embrace your mother soon my sisterfriend.”Khalida Jarrar is a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror organization. She has reportedly been the head of the PFLP in the West Bank since 2016. In 2015, an Israeli military court sentenced Jarrar to 15 months in prison for calling to kidnap Israeli soldiers. Israel arrested Jarrar again in 2017 “on suspicion of involvement with terrorist activities and violent public disturbances.” In 2019, she was arrested by Israel with 50 other PFLP operatives following a deadly 2018 bombing attack.
On November 7, 2019 Gold tweeted: “In case you haven't been paying attention, the Israeli military arrested feminist leftist Parlementarian Khalida Jarrar (again) Oct 30. Jarrar is being held under administrative detention where there are only ‘secret’ charges, no trial & the detention can be extended indefinitely.”
Promoting Anti-Israel Agitators
On November 13, 2019, Gold tweeted: “Ben Shapiro thinks [Jeremy] Corbyn may be the next UK prime minister — Halevai! [If only!]

.”Jeremy Corbyn, a British politician and leader of the Labour Party, has repeatedly referenced terror organizations Hamas and Hezbollah as “friends,” shared platforms with extremists and anti-Semites and compared Israel’s government to ISIS.

Want to meet this incredible 13-year-old Palestinian youth activist from Nabi Saleh--cousin of Ahed Tamimi--yourself? Join me this Sunday Busboys and Poets 450K 5pm.”Ayyad, is a “journalist” who spoke at a Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) event as part of an international speaking tour. PYM has expressed support for terrorists, promoted incitement to violence and advocated for the dissolution of the State of Israel.
Ayyad is also from the Tamimi family stronghold of Nabi Saleh, and is a relative of Palestinian propagandist Bassem Tamimi. Tamimi is notorious for exploiting young children as political props by manufacturing confrontations with Israeli soldiers who respond to the riots that Tamimi organizes. Ayyad has participated in these confrontations.
On March 7, 2019, Hen Mazzig, a pro-Israel activist, shared on Twitter a March 6, 2019 tweet from Gold. Gold’s tweet featured a photo from U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s Washington, D.C. office.
The photo showed Gold posing in front of a group of Neturei Karta members and anti-Israel activist Miko Peled.
Neturei Karta is an anti-Israel Jewish fringe group whose leader, Yisroel Dovid Weiss, was excommunicated from many Ultra-Orthodox Jewish groups for participating in a 2006 Holocaust denial conference in Iran. The group opposes Zionism on religious grounds and has called to dismantle Israel.
Gold later deleted the tweet and wrote: “Apologies if anyone got the wrong idea from the picture.”
On December 17, 2018, Gold tweeted in defense of Linda Sarsour: “Linda IS an ally of American Jews while you are a tool for Israeli occupation and apartheid.”
At Farrakhan’s 2015 #JusticeOrElse March, Sarsour asserted [00:00:36]: “The same people who justify the massacres of Palestinian people and call it ‘collateral damage’ are the same people who justify the murder of young black men and women.”
On December 3, 2018 Gold posted a photo on Instagram of herself and others holding signs outside the CNN building in support of Marc Lamont Hill and captioned it: “We @codepinkalert are at @cnn demanding they reinstate @marclamonthill #istandwithmlh.”
During the meeting, Hill reportedly whitewashed Palestinian violence and accused Israel of “state violence and ethnic cleansing.” He also called for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea.”
In September 2018, during a U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) conference, Hill insinuated [00:31:01] that Israel poisons Palestinian water and seemingly approved [00:30:34] of violence against Israelis.
On November 30, 2018, Gold posted to Instagram a snippet of her appearance that day on Fox News to defend Hill and commented: “On @foxnews @ingrahamangle last night arguing that @@cnn should not have fired Marc Lamont Hill and how incredible Linda Sarsour is as an ally for Jews. Thanks Linda and Marc for all you do.”
On July 11, 2017, Gold was reportedly in Hebron: “monitoring the military trial of Palestinian activist Issa Amro and publicizing his cause online.”
Anti-Israel agitator Issa Amro is known for vandalism and attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians. Amro heads the Youth Against Settlements (YAS) movement, an anti-Israel organization based in Hebron that promotes anti-Semitism, rock-throwing and violence against Israelis.
Hatred of Israel
In early July 2023, Israeli forces launched a two-day counterterrorism operation in the Jenin refugee camp. Its goal was to target terrorists and dismantle the terror infrastructure of organizations such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). By the end of the operation, the Israeli army had reportedly dismantled “hundreds of explosives, weapons caches and underground tunnels.”
On November 13, 2019, Gold tweeted: “If you are spending today on Twitter apologizing for Israel’s horrific war crimes in Gaza or suggesting that Israeli scrapes, bruises, and trauma are equal or worse than murdered Palestinian children, expect that your account has been muted by me.”
Earlier that day and the night before, Israel had been attacked with more than 200 rockets launched by Islamic Jihad at civilian population centers all over Israel.
The same day Gold tweeted: “Sending
and prayers to Gaza tonight as Israel bombs civilians and the US gives its approval. #LetGazaLive.”On November 9, 2019, Gold responded to a tweet about two IDF soldiers who donated their hair to children with cancer. Gold tweeted: “P.S. what do you want to bet Noam and Inbal’s hair will be available only to Jewish cancer patients? #racism
On October 7, 2019, Gold responded to a tweet that read: “Report: Israel and the Gulf states are working on a ‘historic pact’ to end the conflict between them” and tweeted: “Translation: the apartheid state of Israel is looking for partners like the murderous Saudi Arabia.”
On July 15, 2019, Gold tweeted: “We made Israel -- a human rights violating, violent, militaristic, racist state -- feel abandoned? If so we have done well

.”On May 31, 2019, Gold tweeted: “It doesn't matter how many times Israel goes back to elections, the reality will remain that Israel is a racist apartheid state carrying out an endless military occupation.”
On March 29, 2019, near the one-year anniversary of the start of violent protests on Israel’s Gaza border, Gold tweeted: “Shabbat Shalom to everyone except the Israeli military- right now amassing tanks, troops, warplanes, bulldozers around Gaza, ready to carry out a shabbas [Sabbath] massacre.”
On March 28, 2019, Gold tweeted that AIPAC stood for: “Apartheid. Occupation. Seige (sic). Settlements. Ethnic cleansing. Colonization. Home demolitions. Checkpoints. Airstrikes.Land theft. Illegal annexation. Israeli supremacy. White Christian evangelical supremacy. Islamophobia. Racism. Massacres. Extra judicial killings.”
The stated mission of AIPAC is to “strengthen, protect and promote the U.S.-Israel relationship in ways that enhance the security of the United States and Israel.”
On February 20, 2016, Gold tweeted a widely debunked series of maps, purporting to depict Palestine from 1946 up to 2010 with the headline: “Palestinian loss of land.”
The maps claim that lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land” were purportedly stolen by Israel. In February 2016, publisher McGraw-Hill Education recalled copies of a college textbook containing the fraudulent maps. In October 2015, American cable news network MSNBC apologized for airing a similar series of maps and retracted them.
Hatred of America
On January 15, 2025, Gold posted on X: “[U.S. President] Biden is right in his farewells address that we must not allow any president to be immune from crimes they commit while in office. Biden is guilty of aiding and abetting genocide and should not be immune from accountability. He belongs in The Hague alongside Netanyahu.”Promoting Anti-Israel Propaganda
In 2015, Gold coordinated a five-week U.S. speaking tour for Palestinian anti-Israel activist Bassem Tamimi. The tour was organized by JVP, FOSNA, and IFPB.Bassem Tamimi has exploited young children as political props in staged confrontations with Israeli soldiers. In 2011, he was jailed for organizing violent rallies and inciting minors to commit violent crimes such as rock-throwing.
Gold brought Tamimi to a third-grade classroom in Ithaca, New York, on September 18, 2015, where he delivered a controversial presentation geared [00:00:05] to foster hatred of Israel.
Gold’s then-12-year old daughter also reportedly spoke at the presentation.
Tamimi concluded the presentation by encouraging [00:11:29] the children to become “freedom fighters for Palestine.” Tamimi’s speech was reportedly “not pre approved.”
Later in 2015, Tamimi’s U.S. visa was revoked for failure to disclose his prior arrest and conviction.
An investigation by the Ithaca City School District determined Tamimi’s anti-Israel presentation to the 8 and 9-year olds to be “politically skewed, inflammatory and not endorsed by the Ithaca City School District.”
Then-Ithaca School Superintendent, Luvelle Brown, said in a statement that the presentation was “not developmentally appropriate for third-graders, nor aligned with the New York State standards.”
When interviewed following the public outcry over Tamimi’s presentation, Gold compared [00:01:19] Tamimi to Martin Luther King and called the public’s response “an attempt to silence Palestinian voices.”
Exploiting her Children for Anti-Israel Propaganda
In September, 2015, Gold wrote in her blog that she was raising her children as JVP members and “taught them to recognize Zionism as a racist ideology rooted in ethnic cleansing.”In December 2014, Gold wrote in a blog post that she brought her son to participate in one of the weekly demonstrations in the West Bank village of Bil’in, exposing him to tear gas.
The weekly demonstrations in Bil’in have long been known for their propensity to include violence, with resulting in injury to participants.
Anti-Israel Activity
Gold was a featured speaker at the 2019 “Conference For Palestine In The US,” hosted by Americans for Muslims in Palestine (AMP). Other speakers included anti-Israel activists Linda Sarsour, Marc Lamont Hill, Josh Ruebner and AMP founder, Hatem Bazian. On October 21, 2019 Gold shared to Facebook a series of photos from a trip she made to Iran, sponsored by Codepink. Gold wrote: “CODEPINK just visited the former US embassy in Iran — now a museum called ‘US Den of US Espionage museum’ DISCUSS!”
One photo showed Iranian anti-U.S. propaganda, including a poster that read: “Who is the terrorist?” The photo also featured a caricature of the seal of the United States, with a Jewish star inserted into it.
The image purported to list a “small part of the terrorist crimes” of the U.S. in the world, including items like: “Full supporting occupier and racist Zionist regime (Israel) during last 70 years [sic],” which was listed twice.
On August 14, 2019, Gold posted a video on Facebook of herself and other Code Pink activists at the Washington, D.C. office of Congressman Mike Levin, to voice [00:02:28] “concerns” about Levin’s then-recenttrip to Israel.
As Gold waited to see if Levin would see the group, she carried on a conversation for the camera, with her co-worker Medea Benjamin, about the particulars of the trip.
When informed that Levin was unavailable but that she could make an appointment with Levin’s Legislative Director/Foreign Affairs staffer, Gold announced [00:02:35] that she had filed an ethics complaint regarding the Israel trip that day and warned [00:03:18] that new congressmen “shouldn’t fall into the trap” of what she called “the AIPAC Loophole.”
She further warned against “going along with the old-boys network…because AIPAC is powerful…and a lot of groups connected with AIPAC fund congressional campaigns.”
The implication that AIPAC buys political support for Israel has been described as playing into “anti-Semitic tropes” that led to “centuries of stereotypes about Jews using money to control the world.”
On October 25, 2019, Gold posted a photo on Facebook of herself and other activists disrupting a Congressional hearing.
As US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo prepared to testify before the Senate Appropriations on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee, Gold and fellow CODEPINK activists, disrupted the proceedings, with Gold holding a sign that said: “Israel is a Terror State.”
On February 7, 2019 Gold posted to Instagram a video of herself disrupting and subsequently being escorted out of a meeting of the Middle East Forum.
Gold said: “WATCH MY DISRUPTION -it's a few minutes in. Fanatically pro-Israel Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum taking about Trump’s peace plan. Pipes advocates for Israel to use greater military violence towards Palestinians and for Palestinians to have even fewer human rights.”
Supporting BDS
Gold’s tweet included an article titled: “Israeli Burger Chain Won’t Open In Dearborn, Michigan Due To BDS Threat” and credited pressure from anti-Israel performer Amer Zahr and fellow BDS activists.
Zahr has expressed support for terrorists, spread hatred of Israel, demonized Zionism and promoted the BDS movement.
On April 19, 2019, Gold posted a photo on Instagram asking pop star Jennifer Lopez to boycott Israel on her upcoming tour. Gold wrote: “Tell Jennifer Lopez @jlo to show some love got Palestinians, tell her to cancel her concert in apartheid Israel #JLoDontGo
www.codepink.org/jlodontgo.” Jennifer Lopez performed in Tel Aviv in August 2019.
On April 9, 2019, Gold posted a photo on Instagram calling on pop star Madonna to boycott Eurovision. Gold wrote: “Oh no! @madonna say it isn't so. #MadonnaDontGo Sign the letter from @codepinkalert www.codepink.org/Madonna #boycotteurovision2019.” Madonna performed at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv.
On March 5, 2019, Gold published an article on Truthout about boycotting the Israeli medical cannabis industry. Gold’s reasons included that it “whitewashes Israeli war crimes” and “provides legitimacy and profits for people responsible for past massacres in Gaza.”
Gold wrote: “I’m a big fan of medical cannabis” but didn’t want “profits going to pay war criminals.” Gold ended by asking readers to “make sure that your relief does not contribute to Israeli apartheid.”
On February 10, 2019, Gold posted a graphic on Facebook, inviting people to join her for a webinar called: “No vacation rentals on stolen land.” On the graphic were several travel sites which allow people to rent vacation properties in Israel.
On July 12, 2018, Gold posted a graphic on Facebook referring to Ireland voting to boycott Israel. Gold captioned the photo: “Major victory in Ireland for Palestinian rights!”
On December 20, 2018, Gold posted a photo on Instagram of a group of activists holding “Boycott Israel” signs, as part of a Code Pink campaign to boycott the company Everysight, an Israeli cycling technology brand.
Gold wrote: “Did you know @everysight is owned by Israel's largest weapons company. Our is a product of death and apartheid. Yesterday @codepinkalert went to where the glasses are top ask people not to buy them! Boycott #goeverysight.”
On November 20, 2016, Gold disrupted a presentation given by actor Ashton Kutcher, discussing his involvement in the company Airbnb.
When Kutcher tried to shake her hand and explain “what Airbnb means to me,” Gold stood holding a pink sign and shouting [00:00:57] to the audience about “systematic discrimination” towards Palestinians.
On May 5, 2016, Gold tweeted a photo of herself holding a sign that said: “No Open House On Stolen land” and wrote: “.@codepink goes inside the annual @remax shareholder meeting to tell them to stop selling homes on stolen land #BDS.”
CODEPINK’s boycott campaign targets real-estate group RE/MAX due to its investments in Israel.
On November 21, 2015, Gold publicized on Facebook a campaign by the Ithaca Committee for Justice in Palestine to boycott a local Matisyahu concert. Matisyahu is an American-Jewish reggae-rap musical artist.
Gold urged people to go to the protest event at the venue where activists would: “be passing out flyers expressing our opposition to Matisyahu's support for Israeli occupation, apartheid, and war crimes.”
Gold wrote: “Reggae/rap musician, Matisyahu, who supports openly supports Israeli war crimes will be playing in Ithaca at the State Theatre on December 4. Please join me in telling Matisyahu that OCCUPATION, APARTHEID, AND ETHNIC CLEANSING ARE NOT ITHACA VALUES. #BoycottMatisyahu.”
Gold’s Facebook post included an article from Electronic Intifada titled: “It is not anti-Semitic to boycott Matisyahu.”
On November 10, 2015, Gold tweeted a link to a Mondoweiss article detailing how Gold and a fellow Code Pink member unfurled a large banner at Judaism’s ancient heritage site, the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
The banner read: “American Jews Support BDS” with smaller sub-text “@CodePink” and “#BoycottIsrael.”
In January 2015, Gold spearheaded {00:14:00] a referendum to boycott Israeli products at the GreenStar Food Co-op in Ithaca, New York. The referendum was rejected by the GreenStar Council, based on the New York State Human Rights law’s prohibition of boycotts based upon national origin.
Code Pink
CODEPINK is a U.S.-based activist group founded in 2002 by Jodie Evans, Medea Benjamin and other activists to oppose the American invasion of Iraq in 2003.
The group actively opposes “U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine” and has been criticized for maintaining close ties to Hamas. CODEPINK also promotes the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
CODEPINK has led a number of solidarity delegations to Gaza under Hamas protection. In March 2014, CODEPINK also helped organize an “International Women's Day” delegation to Gaza. However, upon arriving at the Cairo airport on March 3, 2014, Benjamin was detained by Egyptian authorities and refused entry into Gaza. She was then forcibly deported to Turkey.
CODEPINKBDS campaigns have targeted RE/MAX, Ahava, SodaStream, Hewlett Packard and Airbnb. On November 20, 2016, CODEPINK leader Ariel Gold disrupted a speech given by the actor Ashton Kutcher, an Airbnb investor who defended the company. Gold was escorted off the stage by security.
In September 2008, a number of CODEPINK leaders met with former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a notorious anti-Semite and Holocaust denier. CODEPINK reportedly initiated its anti-Israel campaign followeding meeting. In November 2008, Jodie Evans and a CODEPINK contingent visited Iran at the personal invitation of Ahmadinejad.
JVP
JVP was founded in Berkeley, California in 1996, as an activist group with an emphasis on the “Jewish tradition” of peace, social justice and human rights. The organization is currently led by Rebecca Vilkomerson and its board members include Israel critics Naomi Klein, Judith Butler, Noam Chomsky and Tony Kushner.
JVP, which generally employs civil disobedience tactics to disrupt pro-Israel speakers and events, consists of American Jews and non-Jewish “allies” highly critical of Israeli policies. A staunch supporter of the BDS movement, JVP claims to aim its campaigns at companies that either support the Israeli military (Hewlett-Packard) or are active in the West Bank (SodaStream).
Although several Jewish groups critical of Israeli policies, like J Street and Partners for a Progressive Israel, make efforts to operate within the mainstream American Jewish community, JVP functions outside. The group is often criticized for serving as a tokenized Jewish voice for the pro-Palestinian camp and is widely regarded as the BDS movement’s “Jewish wing.”
JVP denies the notion of “Jewish peoplehood” and has even gone so far as to refer to its own Ashkenazi (Jews who spent the Diaspora in European countries) leadership as “white supremacy inside of JVP.”
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has accused JVP of being “the largest and most influential Jewish anti-Zionist group in the United States,” and said the group “exploits Jewish culture and rituals to reassure its own supporters that opposition to Israel not only does not contradict, but is actually consistent with, Jewish values.”
The ADL also claimed that “JVP consistently co-sponsors rallies to oppose Israeli military policy that are marked by signs and slogans comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, demonizing Jews and voicing support for groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.”
According to the ADL website, JVP “uses its Jewish identity to shield the anti-Israel movement from allegations of anti-Semitism and provide it with a greater degree of legitimacy and credibility.”
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
