Yasmeen Obeid

Overview

Yasmeen Obeid is a community organizer who spread hatred of Israel and engaged in anti-Israel activism during Israel’s 2021 war against Hamas.

Obeid was active [00:11:30] with the pro-terror organization Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) in 2021.

PYM supports and has glorified terrorists, promotes incitement to violence and spreads anti-Israel conspiracy theories. PYM also advocates for the dissolution of the State of Israel, supports BDS, demonizes Israel, supports anti-Israel agitators and praises violent protesters.

On October 21, 2023, Obeid represented the San Diego Coalition for Palestine at a rally titled: “End the Siege on Gaza Now,” held outside the U.S. Federal Courthouse in San Diego.

In October 2023, Obeid was listed as a 2023 U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) youth fellow.

The U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation (ETO), now called the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR), is a coalition of American-based anti-Israel organizations. ETO’s activities include lobbying Congress to end aid to Israel, promoting BDS, organizing Israeli Apartheid Week on college campuses and initiating publicity-generating campaigns to demonize Israel.

During a 2022 podcast interview, Obeid said [00:34:40] she engaged in “advocacy” on college campuses “local, state-wide and even in D.C.” for the The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation. In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) for providing funds to Hamas. CAIR was also listed as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.

As of July 2024, Obeid worked as a “Community Engagement Coordinator” for the City of San Diego Commission on Police Practices.

Also as of the same date, Obeid was part of the advisory board of Majdal: Arab Community Center of San Diego as the organization’s “Advocacy & Campaigns coordinator.”

In 2021, Obeid served as a delegate [00:02:50] for the 71st Assembly District in the California Democratic Party. At the same time, she served as the community partners chair [00:02:38] of the Feminist Front. Also in 2021, Obeid served on the Youth Council for MidCityCAN.org, a community advocacy network.

As of July 2024, Obeid was listed on the youth advisory board with Borderlands for Equity.

Obeid graduated from the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) with a degree in ethnic studies in 2020.

As of July 2024, Obeid’s LinkedIn profile said she was located in La Mesa, California.

Hatred of Israel and Anti-Israel Activism

On May 18, 2021, during Israel’s “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” Obeid participated in a podcast to discuss Israel’s war against Hamas and to explain “why Palestine is a feminist issue.”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

During the conversation, Obeid said [00:09:20]: “Palestinians are forced to continue to resist the occupation, the displacement, the genocide, the colonization…”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

Later, Obeid said [00:12:25]: “Palestine has been colonized since 1948. I mean, the process of actual settler colonialism started before that, but that’s when it became full on official. That’s when a lot of the massacres…and really the genocide against the Palestinians took place. And what marks for us as Palestinians, we call 194–…May 15, 1948 – we call it the ‘Nakba’ or ‘catastrophe’ in English.”

The modern State of Israel was founded in 1948.

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

Obeid continued and said [00:20:09]: “Today…there was a call from organizers on the ground in Jerusalem…They asked for today to be a global day of action!.... She continued: [00:20:57]: “Wherever city you are [sic], check the Palestinian Youth Movement in that city…” She concluded [00:21:10]: “In San Diego, we are organizing an action at 4pm today…we are demanding that our representatives stop the aid to Israel…”

On May 18, 2021, Operation Guardian of the Walls entered its ninth day. Palestinians in Israel called for a “Day of Rage” and held protests in Jerusalem.

On May 11, 2021, during OGW, violent Arab riots broke out in Israel’s mixed Jewish-Arab city of Lod and in other Israeli cities with large Arab populations. The Lod rioters reportedly raised Hamas and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flags, and attacked Israeli civilians with slabs and rocks, firebombs and metal rods. Rioters also torched synagogues, cars and businesses, and vandalized hospital medical equipment, schools and government buildings.

PYM

In 2012, the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM USA) released a statement saying: “Our liberation...will be gained with the path that was written with the blood of our martyrs. We reaffirm that the only path that we are concerned with is the path that explicitly heads towards the liberation of our land and the return of our people to Palestine.”

PYM organized rallies demonizing Israel where it displays propaganda posters supporting the terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and compared Israel to Nazi Germany.

On October 25, 2015, PYM called to support “intifada” during a period when Palestinian radicals across Israel stabbed and hacked to death scores of Israeli civilians. PYM alleged that “Al-Aqsa Mosque has been the target of particularly brutal assaults” and that “... arbitrary killings are committed daily by the Zionist military and settlers.”

On November 10, 2015, the PYM Facebook page displayed a photo of masked Palestinian radicals throwing rocks and firing rocks from slingshots. That photo was used to promote at least 25 anti-Israel rallies across the globe on or around November 29, 2015 under the banner of “Transnational mobilization for Palestinian resistance.”

On November 30, 2015, PYM displayed a photo on Facebook from one of the rallies showing a sign in support of PFLP member Khalida Jarrar, who confessed to inciting violence and calling for terrorists to abduct Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers.

Another sign showed support for PFLP Secretary-General Ahmad Sadat, who was convicted for the 2001 assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi.

CAIR

CAIR describes itself as a “grassroots civil rights and advocacy group” and “America's largest Muslim civil liberties organization, with regional offices nationwide.” Its official mission is “enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”

CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation.

CAIR was founded in 1994 and opened its first office in Washington, DC, with the help of a $5,000 donation from the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a charity founded by Mousa Abu Marzook.

Marzook, who was listed as a "Specially Designated Terrorist" by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1995, is reportedly a senior member of Hamas.

In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the HLF for providing funds to Hamas.

CAIR was also listed  as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.
