On May 14, 2021, during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls(OGW), Zatar tweeted: “#GenocideinGaza.”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

On May 14, 2021, Zatar tweeted: “… Ask yourself why they [Israel] consistently promote genocidal behaviors.”

On the same day, Zatar tweeted: “This‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️” His tweet was in response to another tweet that read: “Also, I have to mention that a lot of the U.S. police are trained by the IOF [Israeli Occupation Forces] so they use a lot the same kill tactics the IOF uses to kill Palestinians.”

“IOF” is a derogatory name used by anti-Israel activists to demonize Israel’s army, in place of its name the “Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).”

The original tweet invoked the “Deadly Exchange” narrative promoted by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).

In 2017, JVP launched the “Deadly Exchange” (DX) campaign, accusing American Jewish organizations of promoting human rights abuses by coordinating exchange programs between American and Israeli security personnel to advance “worst practices" and racist policies. The campaign blamed [00:04:04] Jewish organizations for violence against Black and Brown communities, immigrants and activists in the U.S.

On May 11, 2021, Zatar tweeted: “... the issue is that Israel is complicit in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. They claim to want a two state solution but move toward creating a singular state by the extinction of Palestinians.”

Hatred of Zionists

During OGW, Zatar retweeted a May 9, 2021 tweet that read: “Free Palestine and if u think otherwise f**king block me u ugly a** zionists.”

Promoting an Anti-Israel Agitator

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

In May 2021, El-Kurd returned from the United States to Israel, following a February 16, 2021 Israeli District Court ruling to evict over 70 Palestinian tenants.

On June 6, 2021, El Kurd’s twin sister, Muna El-Kurd, was reportedly detained by Israeli Police for participating in the Sheikh Jarrah riots. Also on June 6, 2021, Mohammed El-Kurd turned himself in for questioning by the Israeli police. Both were later released the same day.

Anti-Israel Activism

On May 12, 2021, during OGW, Zatar encouraged his Twitter followers to sign Bill H.R 2590, tweeting: “Raising awareness is a part of it, but taking action is the key to making change. Follow this, and share! We need as many people as we can to show that we are not tolerating what’s going on in Palestine.”

U.S. Representative Betty McCollum introduced Bill H.R. 2590 in April 2021to “ensure that United States taxpayer funds are not used by the Government of Israel to support the military detention of Palestinian children… or further annexation of Palestinian land in violation of international law.”

Supporting BDS
