On October 21, 2023, protesters held a pro-Hamas rally in central Philadelphia where activists praised Hamas leaders like Abu Obeida. In the march to the rally, activists repeatedly chanted in support of Israel’s destruction and called for “Intifada,” a show of support for terrorism. Chants in Arabic were more explicit as they incited religious violence and proclaimed that the “shahid habib Allah [martyr is beloved by God]!”
At the rally, Mustafa held a sign that said: “END THE SIEGE ON GAZA!”
Israel and Egypt implemented a UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2011 to stop Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets.
