Susan Kim
Overview
Susan Kim co-authored an anti-Israel statement denying that Hamas terrorists raped Israeli women during the October 7, 2023 terror attacks. She wrote the letter in November 2023.Denial of the Hamas war crimes of October 7, 2023, among anti-Israel activists has been likened to Holocaust denial among neo-Nazis.
Kim’s activism occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, called “Swords of Iron.” Israel launched the war after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.
As of July 2024, Kim was a city councilor in Victoria, British Columbia.
Denying Hamas Atrocities
In November 2023, Kim co-authored an anti-Israel statement titled: “Stand with Palestine: Call on Political Leaders to End Their Complicity in Genocide!” The other co-author of the statement was Sarah Jama, an anti-Israel activist and member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament. The since-deleted statement, which was addressed to members of the Canadian parliament, denied that Israeli women were subjected to sexual violence by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The statement referred to the “unverified accusation that Palestinians were guilty of sexual violence.”
On October 7, 2023, Hamas raped women next to the bodies of dead friends. Some were raped and then shot in the head. Others, including young girls, were raped and murdered or mutilated in other ways.
Israeli officials opened an unprecedented investigation into the widespread sexual assault. Forensic analysis of corpses showed evidence of torture and rape. Hamas terrorists said they were given explicit orders to carry out the atrocities, including chopping off legs and raping the corpses of murdered victims.
Kim’s statement also urged “Canadian political leaders to end their complicity in the ongoing massacres and genocide in Gaza, Occupied Palestine.”
The statement further accused the Canadian government of failing to condemn “Israeli apartheid and occupation,” claiming that “by failing to recognize Israeli occupation as ‘terrorist’ and only directing this term at Palestinian resistance, you perpetuate an Islamophobic trope.”
Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.
Following the statement’s publication, several politicians reportedly called on Kim to resign. In response, on November 20, 2023, Kim wrote [slide 2] on Instagram: “... I will continue to serve out the rest of my term to the best of my abilities on behalf of those who have entrusted me with this privilege.”
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation. Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.
