Overview
Suhair Mary Nafal has spread anti-Semitism, promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, defended the terror group Hamas, celebrated terrorism and expressed support for terrorists.In 2020, Nafal was sued in Orange County, California for defamation by a former Israeli soldier (and American Citizen), Rebecca Rumshiskaya, over a Facebook post by Nafal that demonized Rumshiskaya. The post went viral and resulted in Rumshiskaya receiving death threats.
Nafal has also whitewashed anti-Semitism and called for Israel’s destruction. She has whitewashed terrorism, demonized Zionists, spread hatred of Israel and expressed support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
As of March 2021, Nafal was listed as serving on the national board and coordination committee of Al-Awda, in charge of media for the Chicago chapter, reportedly [page 8] since 2018.
Al-Awda has co-organized major anti-Israel rallies, where speakers have incited [00:14:30] hatred toward Jews. The organization works to demonize Israel. Al-Awda founder, Abbas Hamideh, is known for spreading anti-Semitism and supporting terror.
As of March 2021, Nafal’s LinkedIn page billed her as a “Project Manager” in the Greater Chicago area and said she was a “Self-Employed Principal” since July 2014.
Spreading Anti-Semitism
On October 7, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “These guys think they're God's chosen people.....And have been murdering Palestinians for 66 years.. Any questions?”On November 7, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “#Seriously...What is the difference between the #Zionist's and #Nazi's Ideology? Can someone tell me? Because I can't think of any..”
The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.
On November 14, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “They never were God's chosen people. They have always been God's problem children and society's misfits.” Her tweet referred to a March 20, 2012 article headlined: “VATICAN REPRESENTATIVE IN ISRAEL DECLARES THAT ‘JEWS NO LONGER THE CHOSEN PEOPLE.’”
On January 18, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “The chosen freaks of nature.”
Jews are known as the “chosen people,” a biblical reference to being selected to be in a covenant with God.
On April 30, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “The more I read from Gilad Atzmon and Michael Cohen the more I realize how truly vile zionist/judaism is,... “
Atzmon is an author who has referred to himself as an “ex-Jew,” has promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and expressed support for terror groups.
Also on April 30, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “They have been shoving the f**king holocaust down our throats for decades…”
On November 21, 2019, Nafal posted on Facebook an image that superimposed photos of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Adolph Hitler, with text that said: “THE NAZI OF TEL AVIV.”
Nafal’s Facebook post contained a quote that said: “‘Israel in some ways is worst than Nazi Germany. The Nazis never occupied a country for more than 70 years, never corrupted US Congress and American elections and the American mind the way AIPAC and the Israel Lobby have’ Via A Naser. [sic]”
On July 22, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “How are zionist Jews any different than Nazis? #zionazis #FreePalestine #BoycottIsrael #WakeUpWorld.”
On October 14, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “How are these zionists any different than Nazis exactly?” Nafal’s tweet linked to an article about a reported Israeli Security Cabinet decision to generally stop returning the bodies of Palestinian terrorists, after the funerals of terrorists had reportedly become rallying points for incitement and glorification of terrorism.
In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.
On January 4, 2019, Nafal posted to Facebook an Israeli journalist’s complaint about Israeli media coverage regarding Palestinian prisoners and commented: “Nazisrael.”
Promoting Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Theories
On September 24, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “Germany tried to create the perfect race - Aryan Nation..Israhell is trying to create the perfect Jewish state…On September 27, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “Whoever argues with the fact that American politics is controlled by Zionist Jews is smoking crack.”
Decrying the influence of Zionists or “the Israeli lobby” repeats an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory about Jewish control over foreign governments, popularized in the book “The Israel Lobby” by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt.
On February 15, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “If Muslims kill, the media (owned by racist zionists) calls it 'terrorism'....”
On November 12, 2016, Nafal tweeted: “Zionist controlled media putting out 'Trump loves israel' propaganda. Not buying it.”
On October 6, 2018, Nafal posted to Facebook a photo of an Israeli official and a fabricated quote that said: “... the stupid Americans know equally well, that we control their government… We control congress, we control the media, we control show biz, and we control everything in America...”
On November 28, 2018, Nafal posted on Facebook: “#ATTENTION_FRIENDS!
The 'israel' lobby is mobilizing against senator Rand Paul for blocking the $38 billion of our tax dollars ($23,000 per Jewish-only israeli family) to 'israel' over the next 10 years, while our debt is $21,500,000,000,000... WE NEED TO SHOW HIM OUR SUPPORT!!”
The $38 billion she referred to was part of a 10-year-military aid package signed in 2016 protecting all Israelis, regardless of religion.
On March 7, 2019, Nafal tweeted: “You are the world's leading hypocrite (among so many other awful things). How you & your zionist puppet masters have brutally victimized Palestinians is THE MOST anti-Semitic act on earth. Go pound sand Trump!!”
On November 28, 2019, Nafal posted a picture to Facebook of then-Defense Minster of Israel, Naftali Bennett, with a Middle East Eye headline reading:: “Defence minister: Israel to no longer release bodies of Palestinians.” Nafal commented on the text: “So ‘israel can harvest their organs. #BDS.”
The article was in reference to a new policy where Israel would no longer release the bodies of terrorists, as part of a broader deterrence policy against terrorism.
Defending Hamas
On August 26, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge (OPE), Nafal tweeted: “Top- Leaders of Hamas: A tiny Palestinian resistance group, armed with miniscule weaponry, and the fierceness…”Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
Hamas fired over 4,564 missiles and rockets at Israeli population centers during Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in July 2014.
On September 11, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “Hamas should not negotiate with terrorists but God bless. Give it a shot.” Nafal’s tweet referred to Moussa Mohammed Abu Marzook,a Hamas leader, saying the group was willing to negotiate directly with Israel over issues such as the Gaza border crossings and prisoner releases.
On October 24, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “Say what you will about Hamas, but this man is the back bone of the #resistance…”

On October 16, 2015, after terrorists had murdered Israeli civilians in Jerusalem, Nafal tweeted: “#Latest_numbers_of_deaths_in_Palestine* 39 brave Palestinian feeedom fihters
* 7 illegal filthy zionist terrorist squatters.”
On October 12, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “#Activist be carreful zionist mossad #Palestine #SaveAlAqsa #FreePalestine #intifadaAlQuds #ThirdIntifada.”
The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda served as the excuse for an upsurge in Palestinian violence that flared in the fall of 2015 and incited Palestinians to attempt mass casualty attacks on Israeli civilians in July 2016..
Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

Supporting Terrorists
On September 23, 2020, Nafal posted to Facebook a headline about Zoom canceling a panel event featuring terrorist Leila Khaled. Nafal wrote: “TIME TO #BoycottZoom.”Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.
On September 16, 2018, Nafal tweeted: “Stop the lies!!! The Palestinan boy was a freedom fighter, not a terrorist... It's '#israel' that's 'terrorist' regime. #FreePalestine.” Nafal’s tweet was in response to a tweet mourning the murder of Israeli Ari Fuld.
On September 16, 2018, Khalil Jabarin fatally stabbed American-Israeli Ari Fuld in the back outside a shopping mall south of Jerusalem and attempted to stab another civilian before he was shot by Fuld.
Following the attack, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) released statements praising Jabarin’s stabbing attack as a “heroic operation” in response to Israeli "violations" against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
On October 20, 2015, Nafal tweeted: “#BREAKING.#ISRAELI_MILITIA_MURDER #PALESTINIAN_TEEN #AND_PLACE_KNIFE #IN_DEAD_BOYS_HAND.” On the same day, four Palestinians were killed while carrying out stabbing attacks against Israelis.
On December 11, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “#HERE_SHE_IS.. #RASMEA_ODEH____OUR_HERO!!!! WE LOVE YOU RASMEA..”
Odeh was a military operative with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), an internationally designated terrorist organization. In 1969, she masterminded a bombing that killed two university students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.
Odeh confessed, in a highly detailed account, the day following her arrest. In a 2004 documentary, one of Odeh’s co-conspirators directly implicated her as the mastermind.
In 1970, an Israeli court tried and convicted Odeh for her involvement in both bombings and sentenced her to life imprisonment. However, Odeh was released 10 years later, in a prisoner swap and emigrated to the United States. In 2017, Odeh was deported to Jordan and stripped of U.S. citizenship, after admitting to immigration fraud.

Sued for Defamation
In 2020, Nafal was sued in California for libel by Rebecca Rumshiskaya, an American citizen who had served in the Israeli army.On June 1, 2018, Nafal posted to Facebook side-by-side photos of Rumshiskaya and Rouzan al-Najjar, a Palestinian nurse killed by a ricochet during the March of Return riots on Israel’s Gaza border. Nafal labeled the photos “#GOOD_vs_EVIL.”
On March 30, 2018, some 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza approached Israel’s border to take part in “Land Day Protests,” or the “March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests to spotlight the Palestinian demand to “return” to Israel. The “right of return” has since been discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.
Nafal’s post described Rumshiskaya as “an American zionist from Boston (Rebecca Rum) with zero ties to occupied Palestine who joined the ‘#israel’ military to participate in the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous people of Palestine.”
Rumshiskaya had been discharged from the Israeli army two and a half years before Nafal’s post and was never a sniper. After Nafal published her Facebook post, false accusations that Rumshiskaya had killed the Palestinian nurse spread rapidy online and she received thousands of abusive messages and death threats.
Two years later, Rumshiskaya sued Nafal in California for defamation and requested [page 10] the Orange County Superior Court to apply Israel’s the 7-year Israeli statute of limitations, since California’s one-year statute of limitations for libel cases barred Rumshiskaya from pursuing her claim in California’s courts.
Rumshiskaya’s suit was deemed time-barred and dismissed, though the judge granted [page 6] Nafal’s anti-SLAPP motion, requiring Rumshiskaya to pay for Nafal’s legal fees. The fact that Nafal’s post was deemed to involve “political speech” and was “connected to issues of public interest” allowed Nafal to invoke California’s anti-SLAPP legislation.
The trial never proceeded to the merits of Rumshiskaya’s claim for defamation, nor did it discuss the limits upon free speech used to defame individuals and cause them personal harm.

On May 16, 2018, a Hamas senior official, Salah al-Bardawil, stated that 50 out of 62 protesters killed during the May 14 Gaza border protest were Hamas operatives. Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) also claimed that three of its members were killed at the same protest.

That day, a member of the Hamas terror group murdered a three-month-old baby and a woman and injured seven others in a car-ramming attack at a light-rail station in Jerusalem.

The original image was tweeted by the IDF on July 11, 2014, and accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields.
On June 14, 2018, Nafal tweeted: “As long as zionism exist, the entire world is in danger. Palestinians are getting the worst of it.”

In public interviews following the decision, Nafal admitted [00:07:13] her posts about Rumshiskaya had caused Rumshiskaya harm. The Arab American News quoted Nafal as saying she was “pleased and comforted” by judges who “enforce our First Amendment Laws” and “make it very clear to foreign entities that they don’t get to try to call the shots and change laws based on their fear of being exposed for their war crimes.”
Whitewashing Anti-Semitism
On September 5, 2014, Nafal tweeted: “Palestinians are the only people on earth who can actually be rightfully 'anti-Semitic' if they so chose.”Antisemitism refers to hostility, prejudice or discrimination directed against Jews (and not all Semitic people). The term was first used in print in Germany in 1879, as a word to denote Jew-hatred and this has been its common usage since then.
