Sarah Bakir

Overview

Sarah Bakir has shown support for terrorists as an activist with Student Justice for Palestine (SJP) at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).

As of July 2019, Bakir’s LinkedIn page said she was a student at UC Berkeley, slated to graduate in 2020.

Support for Terrorists

On May 7, 2017, Bakir participated along with other SJP activists in the SJP UC Berkeley “Saltwater Challenge,” outside Sproul Hall on the UC Berkeley campus.

The “Saltwater Challenge” was held in solidarity with hunger-striking Palestinian prison inmates convicted of terrorism. The strike was initiated by Marwan Barghouti, who was serving five consecutive life sentences for his role in suicide bombings that killed five Israelis during the second intifada. Aarab Barghouti, the son of Marwan Barghouti, launched the "Saltwater Challenge."

SJP Activism

Bakir indicated on Facebook that she “went” to an SJP UC Berkeley co-organized event, titled: “Mock Checkpoint,” on March 23, 2017. The Facebook event description said: “we will be putting up a mock-aparthied wall.” The demonstration took place at Sproul Plaza, a major center of student activity at UC Berkeley.

Bakir indicated on Facebook that she “went” to an SJP UC Berkeley co-organized event titled: “A Gala for Palestine: Resistance Through Culture,” on December 4, 2016. Hatem Bazian was a featured speaker at the event.

Hatem Bazian is the founder of the anti-Israel organizations Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Bazian has a decades-long history of incitement and of using classic anti-Semitic tropes to demonize Israel.
Bakir indicated on Facebook that she “went” to an SJP UC Berkeley co-organized event on October 27, 2016, titled: “International Day of Action for Palestine.”

The Facebook event description called for “... activists and organizations on campuses across the world to organize massive protests on every college and university campus” a “push for BDS activities,” demanding “Free Palestine” and “Solidarity With All Indigenous Resistance.”

The Facebook event description also urged: “No to Academic Complicity with Israeli Occupation,” “No to Study Abroad Programs in Israel,” and “No to University Presidents' Visits to Israel.”

According to the event’s Facebook description,anti-Israel professors Hatem Bazian and Rabab Abdulhadi were scheduled to speak at the event.

Bakir indicated on Facebook that she “went” to BFP’s “1st general meeting” on September 14, 2016. The Facebook event description also said: “Board applications are due on Tuesday, September 13th at 7 pm” and provided a link for an application.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
