Sara Sleiman

Overview

Sara Sleiman [Sara M. Sleiman] has defended violent protests and promoted anti-Israel agitators. She is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and has spread hatred of Israel.

As of April 2021, Sleiman’s LinkedIn page said she was a producer at TRT World, a Turkish English-language propaganda news channel. Sleiman’s LinkedIn also said she was an Assistant Producer at Al Jazeera Media Network (Al Jazeera) from September 2017 to June 2020, and a Digital Producer intern at Al Jazeera, from May to September 2017.

In October 2020, Sleiman’s LinkedIn said she was a “Multimedia Producer Former Assistant Producer at Al Jazeera English (AJ English) - Programmes Department” in Doha, Qatar.

Defending Violent Protests

On May 31, 2018 Sleiman tweeted: “Israel has no right to apply collective punishment on the people of Gaza as self defence. These are human beings not hamas pawns. 43% of the population is under the age of 14 & over 69% of these children suffer from post-war trauma.”

In May 2018, terror group Hamas instigated violent riots on the Israeli-Gaza border. Thousands of rioters attempted to breach Israel’s border fence, declaring their intention to harm Jews across the border under the pretext of “peaceful resistance.”

Sleiman’s May 31 tweet was in response to a May 29, 2018 tweet by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that read: “Israel has every right to defend itself against these deplorable attacks by the terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Our thoughts are with everyone affected today.”

March participants sent scores of kites bearing explosive devices across Israel’s border to burn Israeli crops and homes. Participants also attempted to breach the border fence, which caused the Israeli Defense Forces to respond with live fire. Agitators also threw Molotov cocktails and firebombs, shot firearms and threw rocks.

Also on May 31, 2018, Sleiman tweeted: “Israel has no right to deny the people of Gaza basic human rights and then kill them for protesting their conditions. If peace is a serious goal then give these people their rights and lift the siege.”

Media reports confirmed [00:00:20] the March of Return protesters’ breaches and attempted breaches of Israel’s border fence, some by armed Palestinians. One Hamas leader declared [00:00:30]: “We will take down the border [with Israel] and we will tear out their hearts from their bodies.”

Sleiman retweeted a May 14, 2018 tweet that read: “With Monday's massacre, Israel has now killed more than 90 Palestinians in the past six weeks for approaching the fence it placed around Gaza, surpassing the total number of East Germans shot and killed for trying to scale the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1989.”

On May 16, 2018, a Hamas senior official, Salah al-Bardawil, stated that 50 out of 62 protesters killed during the May 14 Gaza border protest were Hamas operatives. Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) also claimed that three of its members were killed at the same protest.

Sleiman retweeted an April 3, 2018 tweet that read: “‘Israeli forces were shooting to kill, or to cause disabilities,’ say doctors at a #Gaza hospital...”

Sleiman also retweeted an April 3, 2018 tweet from Omar Shakir that read: “Israeli forces weren't merely using excessive force, but acting on orders to fire on demonstrators who posed no real threat…”

Promoting Anti-Israel Agitators

Sleiman retweeted a December 1, 2018 tweet that read: “‘It's important to distinguish between legitimate critiques of Israeli policies and hostility towards a faith-based group, which it is not.’ People are speaking out in solidarity with Marc Lamont Hill who was fired by CNN for criticising Israel and accused of anti-Semitism.”

In November 2018, Marc Lamont Hill was fired from his position as a contributor to CNN (Cable News Network) following controversial comments he made during a meeting held at the United Nations for an “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.”

During the meeting, Hill reportedly whitewashed Palestinian violence and accused Israel of “state violence and ethnic cleansing.” He also called for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea.”

In September 2018, during a U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) conference, Hill insinuated [00:31:01] that Israel poisons Palestinian water and seemingly approved [00:30:34] of violence against Israelis.

Sleiman retweeted an August 4, 2018 tweet from the anti-Israel Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) in defense of Dareen Tatour that read : “Global literature and free speech group PEN International condemns Israel's sentencing of Palestinian Dareen Tatour for her poetry: ‘We stand with Tatour’s own words: poetry is not a crime.’"

In October 2015, Tatour was placed under house arrest for incitement to violence and for support of a terrorist organization on social media. Tatour had supported the terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and posted to Facebook: “I am the next shahid [martyr].”  Sleiman retweeted a July 29, 2018 tweet that read: “Israel’s jailing of a child for 8 months - for calling for protests & slapping a soldier - reflects endemic discrimination, absence of due process & ill-treatment of kids. Ahed Tamimi is free, but 100s of Palestinian children remain locked up with little attention on their cases.”

Ahed Tamimi has a long history of physically attacking Israeli soldiers. Tamimi is the daughter of Bassem Tamimi, who is known for exploiting young children as political props in staged confrontations with Israeli soldiers.

Sleiman also retweeted a January 2, 2018 tweet by AJE that quoted Bassem Tamimi: “‘Her fate is now in the hands of people who don't even see Palestinians as full human beings.’ Israel charges Palestinian teen activist Ahed Tamimi on 12 counts…”

Endorsing BDS

Sleiman retweeted a May 19, 2019 tweet from AJE that read: “Dear #Eurovision artists, how does it feel to sing so close to so much human misery and suffering?” and linked to an AJE article titled: “Eurovision 2019: Last appeal from Gaza.”

In the article, the author called on artists to boycott Eurovision 2019 and wrote:“Remember your peers of the previous generation who stood up bravely against South African apartheid and backed the boycott movement. Like them, you can stand on the right side of history and boycott Israel today!”

Hatred of Israel

On May 14, 2021, Sleiman tweeted during Israel's Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW): “You cannot be neutral between two sides that are, objectively, wildly unequal. That's not objectivity. That's complicity in upholding & perpetuating injustice. #PalestineUnderAttack”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

On May 13, 2021, Sleiman responded to a tweet from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wishing Muslims a happy Eid al-Fatir holiday and tweeted: “We don't need Eid wishes. Take a serious stance on weapons sales to Israel and stop enabling the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.”

On May 10, 2021, Sleiman tweeted: “The whitewashing of Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people is disgraceful. This reporting from @Reuters is embarrassing. Absolutely appalling. #SaveSheikhJarrah.”

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

On May 9, 2021, Sleiman tweeted an Al Jazeera article titled “Canada’s blackout of Israel’s crimes against humanity” and wrote “HRW [Human Rights Watch] makes plain that Canada’s valued friend has achieved its ‘inhuman’ designs by, in part, denying Palestinians building permits, violently and summarily evicting Palestinians from their homes, stealing their land, denying Palestinians clean water...”

Sleiman continued that Israel was “forcing Palestinians to live in deprivation, blocking families from living together, humiliating Palestinians at military checkpoints, suspending Palestinian civil rights and depriving them of work, imprisoning children, torturing, maiming and killing indiscriminately.”

Human Right Watch (HRW) has long been accused of harboring an anti-Israel bias.

Sleiman retweeted a July 25, 2017, tweet by anti-Israel activist Noura Erakat that read: “This is a settler-colonial scheme pursued under the cover of security and religious conflict. #Jerusalem.”

Al Jazeera Media Network

Al Jazeera Media Network (Al Jazeera) is a Qatari-owned multimedia conglomerate broadcasting to 310 million households in more than 100 countries.

The network has been accused of slanting news reports to promotethe agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood. A weekly show hosted by Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, aired from 1996-2013, where Qaradawi expressed [00:00:47] a personal dream of traveling to Israel to carry out Jihad and glorified suicide bombings by children.

The network has also been accused of affiliating with the terror group Hamas, criticized for providing a platform for the Al-Qaeda terror organization and implicated in the promotion of a wide variety of terrorist propaganda.

Invited guests and speakers have labeled Jews “devils” and “grave-dwellers who...suck the blood of others.” One Al Jazeera children’s program featured a Saudi cleric who labeled Jews “treacherous, disloyal, deceitful” and congratulated a child for hating and cursing Jews.

In September 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reportedly ordered AJ+, Al Jazeera’s online news platform based in the U.S., to register as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA)

Al Jazeera English

Al Jazeera English (AJ English) is a Qatari-owned news channel, part of the Al Jazeera Media Network (Al Jazeera), headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Al Jazeera and AJ English are owned by the Qatari government and are financed by Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.

AJ English has come under scrutiny by the U.S. State Department for Qatari “editorial and programmatic control” of AJ English, as Qatar is also the principal financial backer of the terror groups Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

AJ English has a significant social media following and has used its platforms to spread anti-Semitism, whitewash terrorists and promote anti-Israel propaganda.

AJ English is geared to a Western audience and has been careful to distance itself from controversy involving AJ’s Arabic news channels. When caught minimizing the murder of Jewish Israelis or publishing falsehoods that demonize Israel, AJ English has usually been quick to retract its statements.
