Overview
Sara Shawish has spread anti-Semitism, whitewashed Hamas terrorism, celebrated “intifada” and demonized Israel. She has also spread hatred of Israel and Zionists and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.As of July 2021, Shawish’s LinkedIn page said she worked as a “Certified Nursing Assistant” at Denver Health Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, since 2018.
As of the same date, Sara Shawish was listed by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as an active licensed “Certified Nurse Aide” in Lakewood, Colorado, 80232. Shawish’s license number was listed as “NA.00781275” originally issued on “09/11/2017.” The license was effective from “02/02/2021” with an expiration date of “01/31/2023.”
As of the same date, Shawish’s LinkedIn page said she was a student at the Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) in 2017-2019.
Spreading Anti-Semitism
Shawish retweeted a June 26, 2021 tweet that said: “zionism is nazism, they even collaborated.”The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.
Shawish retweeted a June 1, 2021 tweet accusing “zionist militias” of “nazi behaviour.”
Whitewashing Hamas Terrorism
Shawish retweeted a June 23, 2021 tweet that said: “I support the troops and I ALWAYS stand for the flag
stay mad libtards.” The tweet was accompanied by an image of three members of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigade, an armed wing of Hamas, with a caption placed across that read: “LIBERALS ARE ALWAYS HATING US FOR SUPPORTING THE TROOPS. LIKE AND SHARE IF YOU DON’T GIVE A DAMN!”On May 10, 2021, Shawish tweeted: “Here they come with HAMAS HAMAS HAMAS... stfu [shut the f*** up] are you not embarrassed enough that you’re backing the ethic cleansing of Palestinian people LITERALLY SHUT THE F**K UP.”
Shawish retweeted a May 28, 2021 tweet that said: “Your opinions on Hamas don’t matter bc Hamas was democratically elected BY Palestinians. And even before Hamas was formed as a political party, Palestinians were called terrorists for resisting israel’s genocide of our people. And after Hamas we will still be called terrorists.”
Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 2] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.
Hamas's founding charter calls for the murder of Jews, while the terror group’s “summer camps” have taught children how to wage war.
Celebrating Intifada
On December 8, 2020, Shawish tweeted: “Today it’s been 33 years since the 1st intifada.”The First Intifada lasted from 1987-1991 and resulted in over 160 Israeli civilian casualties. Palestinian gunmen hijacked multiple buses and carried out shooting, stabbing and bombing attacks against Israelis, including the bombing of the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem.

Demonizing Israel
Shawish retweeted a June 29, 2021 tweet that said: “building a ‘theme park’ at the expense of indigenous Palestinian people’s lives is part of the genocidal zionist occupation state’s agenda. this isn’t the Nakba ‘all over again’ because the Nakba never ended. #SaveSilwan.”The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.
Jewish owners who sought to reclaim their property rights to lands in Silwan, a Jerusalem neighborhood also known as Shiloach, have been frequently met with Palestinian violence. Many Jews and Palestinians possess conflicting deeds to the same properties, with Jews holding deeds that pre-date those held by Palestinians.

In the wake of the election of a new Israeli government, Shawish retweeted a June 13, 2021 tweet that said: “May this be the last Zionist government to be sworn in to oversee the occupation of Palestine. May it be the government that oversees nothing but its own dismantlement.”On June 5, 2021, Shawish tweeted: “I pray everyday that I*F [Israeli Occupation Forces] terrorists suffer at night and see the children that they murdered in their sleep. I hope y’all never find peace.”
“IOF” stands for Israeli Occupation Forces, a derogatory name used by anti-Israel activists to demonize Israel’s army in place of its official name, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
On March 29, 2020, Shawish tweeted: “Only thing that turns me on” and included an image of a boy texting a girl: “what turns you on,” and the girl responding: “the destruction of Israel.”

Supporting BDS
On June 29, 2021, Shawish tweeted: “Also now more than ever it’s SO IMPORTANT to boycott boycott BOYCOTT... #SaveSilwan.”Shawish retweeted a Jun 20, 2021 tweet that said: “that’s my fav” next to an image with the following text: “BUYING ISRAELI PRODUCE FUNDS PALESTINIAN GENOCIDE.”
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
