Safiyyah Ogundipe

Overview

Safiyyah Ogundipe was the president of a pro-Hamas activist group that held a protest during an Israeli war against Hamas terrorists in late 2023. At the time, she was a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Ogundipe’s group held the protest almost a month after a series of Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023.

The Hamas terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 2] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

Ogundipe also participated [slide 1] in the “National March on Washington: Free Palestine” demonstration in Washington, D.C., on November 4, 2023.

November 9, 2023 - MIT CAA Anti-Israel Protest

On November 9, 2023, Ogundipe was the president of MIT’s anti-Israel student group Coalition Against Apartheid (MIT CAA) when it joined other student groups in holding an anti-Israel campus protest.

MIT CAA said that protesters demanded that MIT “stop funding research that supports Israeli apartheid and the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.”

During the protest, anti-Israel activists reportedly chanted: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free! From the sea to river, Palestine will live forever!” and “Not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes!”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

In an interview about the protest, Ogundipe reportedly said she encouraged others to stay even after the MIT administration said that protesters would be suspended for violating campus policies regarding the protest’s location.

MIT CAA has defined itself as a group “in opposition to colonialism, occupation, and apartheid in Palestine and beyond.” The protest was organized by the Coalition for Palestine, reportedly comprised of 12 MIT student groups. MIT CAA is reportedly one of the main organizing groups in the Coalition for Palestine.

On October 9, 2023, two days after Hamas carried out their atrocities on Israelis, MIT CAA held an anti-Israel rally. The flyer for the event said: “LONG LIVE PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE…VICTORY IS OURS.”

Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.
On October 8, 2023, MIT CAA released a joint statement that said the group held “the Israeli regime responsible for all unfolding violence.”

Both the Coalition for Palestine and MIT CAA reportedly participated in more than 20 anti-Israel events between October 7, 2023, the date of the Hamas terror attack, and November 22, 2023.
