Ruya Hazeyen

Ruya Hazeyen was co-president of a Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter that co-organized an anti-Israel protest where 57 students were arrested. The October 2023 protest occurred at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst).

The protest came after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left about 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.

Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 7] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

As of November 2023, Hazeyen wrote on her LinkedIn profile that she had been the president of UMass Amherst SJP since September 2020. She also said she was studying for a bachelor’s degree at UMass Amherst in Political Science and Middle Eastern studies, slated to graduate in 2024.

As of November 2023, Hazeyen was listed on the UMass Amherst directory as a Political Science major slated to graduate in 2024.

UMass Amherst is located in Amherst, Massachusetts.
