Rebecca Mellagui

Overview

Rebecca Mellagui [Rebecca Gail Dent] has promoted anti-Semitism, expressed support for terrorists, trivialized the Holocaust and equated Israel with Nazi Germany. Mellagui has also spread hatred of Zionists, Israelis and Israel.

Mellagui is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of April 2023, Mellagui was licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing under the name “Rebecca G. Mellagui,” license number 33363, expiring April 30, 2024.

In November 2022, Mellagui’s anti-Semitic tweets were reported to her employer, Amedisys Inc., a home healthcare provider based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The next day, she tweeted: “Yesterday, a Zionist sent a tweet of mine to my (part time) job and I got a call from HR.If only they knew how little this affected me. I will never apologize for telling the truth.”

On November 3, 2022, Mellagui tweeted that she was retired. However, on February 19, 2023, Mellagui indicated on Twitter that she was still employed.

In June 1988, Mellagui participated in an American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) delegation to Israel.

As of April 2023, Mellagui’s LinkedIn page said she was located in Charleston, South Carolina.

As of April 2023, Mellagui went by the username “Rebecca Bolan” on Facebook and Twitter, and used the handle “@RMellagui” on Twitter.

Anti-Semitism

On August 29, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “Jews aren't trying to turn us all into Zionists?The hell they aren't. Ask Joe Biden and just about every politician on the planet.”

On September 2, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “Call me crazy, but I don't think that our forefathers intended for our banks, stock market, media, and politicians to be controlled by Zionists.”

On September 14, 2022, Mellagui tweeted, referring to Israelis: “They are taught from birth that they are superior to everyone on the planet.Hitler didn't seem to think so, though, did he?”

On September 27, 2022, Mellagui responded to a tweet defining anti-Semitism as Jew-hatred. She said: “Bull Most Jews aren't Semites. They are of European ancestry.”

One way that anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is to claim [00:06:46] that Israeli Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, do not descend from the ancient Israelites.

This claim alleges that Israeli Jews are white Europeans who lack a connection to the Land of Israel. The Khazar myth is a common version of this claim which is used to delegitimize [00:02:16] the existence of the modern State of Israel.

On February 14, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “World domination and Jewish supremacy is the Zionist dream.”

Terror Support (Hamas, PIJ, Hezbollah)

On February 16, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “You know nothing about love or kindness or compassion. So stop trying to demonize Hamas.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 2] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

On January 27, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “‘Israel’ has no legal right to even be in Jenin and the civilians that IDF [Israel Defense Forces] terrorists slaughtered were freedom fighters, which is their right under international law. GET OUT OF PALESTINE!”

On January 26, 2023, nine Palestinians were killed in a shootout after IDF soldiers entered the Jenin refugee camp to arrest a cell of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists, who were reportedly planning a terror attack. During the attempted arrests, members of the cell as well as other Palestinian gunmen opened fire on the soldiers.

On June 21, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “I hope Hezbollah whips your tails again,” in response to an IDF tweet that read: “A drone that likely belongs to the Hezbollah terrorist army crossed from Lebanon into Israel. IDF soldiers…downed the drone.”

Hezbollah has long been known as an anti-Semitic and genocidal terror organization dedicated to destroying Israel.

On June 9, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “Hamas isn't actively destroying ‘Israeli’ villages. ‘Israel’ is ethnically cleansing Palestine.Why would Hamas not hate ‘Israel’?”

Trivilaizing the Holocaust

On April 21, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “I wonder how long ‘Israeli’ Jews are going to continue to milk the Holocaust cow? I'm pretty sure her teats have fallen off by now.”

On April 18, 2023, Mellagui posted on Facebook:”I read that Germany has given more than $80,000,000,000 in reparations to Holocaust victims. Tell me why Christian and Jewish organizations are constantly begging for them. Where’s the money?”

On December 26, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “I am not now, nor have I ever been a Holocaust denier. Having said that, I will repeat myself. The Jews aren't the only ones in history who have been persecuted. Why are they somehow more sacred than all the others? At some point, you have to move forward. Oh, and FREE PALESTINE.”

Equating Israel with Nazi Germany

On February 22, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “Never again?Free Palestine now because it's looking a lot like Hitler is in charge there now!”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

On February 12, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “...Zionists are the new Nazis. If you think that is an anti-Semitic statement, think again.”

On January 30, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “Did Jews not celebrate the deaths of Nazis?” She was responding to a tweet that included an image showing Palestinian athletes celebrating a terrorist attack in Jerusalem that killed seven Israelis.

On January 27, 2023, on the evening of the Jewish Sabbath, Palestinian terrorist Alqam Khayri opened fire on Jewish civilians in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood of Jerusalem. Khayri killed seven people and wounded three before he was shot and killed by the police.

On January 27, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “...Show me the difference between Zionists and Nazis! No gas chambers yet, but the comparisons are astounding…”

On July 5, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “The Nazi party is alive and well and illegally occupying Palestine.”

Hatred of Zionists and Israelis

On August 11, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “Calling someone a Zionist is the worst insult that I can begin to imagine.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

On October 28, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “I have no problem with the expulsion of millions of ‘Israeli’ citizens.I haven't seen more than a handful of them with any sense of decency or humanity.”

On September 1, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “I've never met a Zionist who wasn't vile and evil.”

On September 4, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “Palestinians are semitic. Ashkenazi Europeans are not. Remember that.”

Ashkenazi Jewry originated from an ancient Jewish community in the Middle East, whose descendants settled in Europe.

On February 13, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “...I can't see a one-state solution working either, given the Zionist criminals in charge. It's going to take this entity being taken down. I pray for it every day.”

The “one-state solution” has been denounced from the Right and the Left as a scheme to dissolve Israel as the Jewish State.

On February 20, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “...There can only be a one-state solution: Palestine, and minus a few million Zionist criminals.”

Hatred of Israel

On September 4, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “Zionism is the definition of terrorism.”

On October 5, 2022, Mellagui tweeted; “The Zionist entity must be abolished, like the KKK [Ku Klux Klan] was in America.”

On October 21, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “‘Israel's’ capital is somewhere in Europe.”

On October 28, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “I'm a ‘river to the sea’ person myself. I don't think ‘Israel’ has shown itself worthy of the land.”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

On November 10, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “An ‘Israel’ that no longer existed would be my personal preference.”

On December 6, 2022, Mellagui tweeted: “‘Israel’ is a lunatic asylum run by people who should be locked in padded cells.”

On January 1, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “Don't be absurd.Jerusalem belongs to all religions and should be an international city, protected by the UN.I'm sick to death of the ‘there has always been a Jewish presence there’ nonsense.PERIOD.”

Mellagui wrote her tweet in response to a tweet that said: “No matter how many times the UN says Jerusalem is under occupation - it can’t erase the historical fact that King David made Jerusalem the capital of his Kingdom in 1000 BCE - long before ‘Palestine’ or the UN existed. / Jews are indigenous to the land of Israel. Period.

”

One way anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is by denying [00:17:45] Jewish history, with the aim of delegitimizing restored Jewish sovereignty, attacking Israel’s legitimacy and portraying Jews as foreign to the Land of Israel.

On February 18, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “A slogan I wrote and use often is: The only disputed territory in Palestine is ‘Israel’.”

On February 14, 2023, Mellagui tweeted: “There was no such place as ‘Israel’ 3,000 years ago.”
