Rasha Anayah
Overview
Rasha Anayah threatened to fail pro-Israel students while working as a Teaching Assistant (TA) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Anayah has also spread hatred of Israelis and defended an inciter to violence while she served as the 2020 treasurer of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at JHU.In September 2016, Anayah indicated on Facebook that she was a “Board Member for Bears for Palestine (BFP).” As of December 2020, her LinkedIn page said she was the “Co-Founder/President” of BFP from May 2016-May 2017.
As of December 2020Anayah’s LinkedIn also said she was a “Graduate Student” at JHU since 2018, and she was listed by the JHU department of Chemistry as a Ph.D. Graduate Researcher with “Dr. Thoi's Research Group.” Anayah was a TA for Professor Tyrel M. McQueen’s “Chemical Equilibrium and Reactivity” course lab at JHU in 2018.
Anayah’s LinkedIn also said she earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Biology from the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) in 2017.
As of December 2020, Anayah deleted her Twitter account. As of the same date, Anayah used the alias “Rasha Ana” on Facebook.
Threatening to Fail Pro-Israel Students
Anayah added a Twitter poll with the options: “yes rasha.be a good ta,” which received 22.2% of the votes and “free palestine! fail them,” which received 78.8%.
On November 16, 2020, Anayah responded to the poll results, tweeting: “like i agree but also too many of you want me to get fired.”
Spreading Hatred of Israelis
The same day, Anayah wrote, in the same Twitter thread: “we had an undergrad in lab who had been on birthright ad had one of the street signs to tel aviv on her laptop. It stabbed me every time she opened it. If i had been paired to ine of them or one of these conceited white boys i would have lost it.
Birthright Israel is a heritage trip to Israel for Jewish young adults from across the world.
Anayah on the same day tweeted: “alhamdulilah for the opportunity to give to students who actually deserve.”
On September 24, 2020, Anayah tweeted: “WOW THE MOST PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT IS TOTAL TRASH. LITERALLY F**K HER AND EVERYONE WHO STANS HER. if any of you ever tell me to give a democrat a second of my time i will literally scream.”
Anayah’s tweet included a tweet from American for Peace Now (APN) that said: “Rabin's legacy inspires us all. Join @AOC [U.S. Representative Alexandra Ocasio Cortez] at APN's Yitzhak Rabin 25-Year Memorial on October 20. Hear her reflect on fulfilling the courageous Israeli leader’s mission for peace and justice today in the US and Israel. Register to attend!”
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin signed the Oslo Accords in 1993 and 1995 with the Palestinian leadership, in an effort to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict.
In the same September 24, 2020 Twitter thread, Anayah tweeted: “damn straight. never the f**k ever we praise them,” in response to the tweet: “Such a joke how she is praised by progressives. This is one example of why u don’t praise American politicians.”
Defending an Inciter to Violence
Anayah signed a Scientists for Palestine petition published on July 25, 2020, which called for the immediate release of Palestinian astrophysics professor, Imad Barghouti, who was detained earlier that month and reportedly arraigned on August 2, 2020 on charges of “incitement and support of organizations hostile to Israel.”Palestinian Astrophysicist Professor Imad Barghouthi of Al Quds University was sentenced in 2016 to seven months in prison for incitement to violence.
Barghouthi is a vocal supporter of Hamas's military wing — the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades — and has called for killing and being killed in the name of Islam.
An October 22, 2014 video showed Barghouthi at an Al-Quds university Hamas rally, draped in a Hamas banner, [00:00:33] urging students to design precision guided missiles, and sniper rifles as [00:01:11] “weapons ofthe resistance” to [00:02:35] kill “zionist soldiers” in their bedrooms.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
