Rana Ali
Overview
Rana Ali has spread antisemitism and hatred of Zionists. Ali also defended a doctor accused of antisemitism, promoted incitement and demonized Israel on Twitter.As of October 2021, Ali’s LinkedIn page said she was a “volunteer” at Phoenix Children’s Hospital since May 2015. Her LinkedIn said she worked “side by side with nurses and doctors to interact with children, parents, and other family/friends” and that she also “Guided family’s and children around the hospital.”
Ali’s LinkedIn also said she was a “Wish Granter” at Make-A-Wish Arizona since June 2016. The organization is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. In April 2020, Ali wrote on Facebook about Make-A-Wish: “One of the best things I’ve ever done is become a part of an amazing organization like this
Ali’s LinkedIn said she had been an emergency room volunteer at St. Lukes Medical Center in Phoenix after June 2016. The center reportedly closed in October 2019.
Ali’s LinkedIn said she was a candidate for a master’s degree in Business Administration at Grand Canyon University (GCU). She was studying “Cyber/Computer Forensics and Counterterrorism” and expected to graduate in 2022.
As of October 2021, Ali’s Facebook page said she was a “Data Breach Analyst” at Elevate Services since April 1, 2021.
Ali’s LinkedIn said she graduated from ASU in 2017, with a bachelor’s degree in “Biological Sciences (Biomedical Science)” and “Criminal Justice and Corrections.” She was also listed as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the course, “BIO302: Cancer, Mother of all Diseases,” from January 2017 to January 2018.
Ali also wrote on her LinkedIn that she interned at Quick Pharmacy from June 2013 to February 2015 where she “Filled Prescriptions” and “Communicated with doctors and patients about taking the proper medication.”
As of October 2021, Ali used the alias “ranoosh0302” on Twitter.
As of the same date, Ali used the alias “Rana5597” on Curious Cat.
In 2014, Ali was affiliated with the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at ASU.
Antisemitism
On March 13, 2019, Ali tweeted: “Pretty sure the anesthesiologist who gave me my epidural was a yahoodi [Jew] and I’m kinda p**sed about it..He asked my husband where we’re from, and when we said Pali, he was like ‘idk [I don’t know] where that is, is it near Israel?.’ If he didn’t have a giant needle in my back, I would’ve hit him.”Hatred of Zionists
On May 13, 2021, during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW), Ali tweeted: “...While this was a difficult Eid to celebrate, we did it for our brothers and sisters in Palestine. May Allah protect them and allow them to truly celebrate in the coming days ya Rab [O Lord]In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.
On October 31, 2016, Ali was asked on Curious Cat why she hates Israel “so much.” Ali answered: “Sweetheart, calm down. I don't hate Israel, I hate Zionists. Murdering innocent Palestinians is going to make me hate you, sorry.”
Defending a Doctor Accused of Antisemitism
On June 24, 2021, Ali tweeted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital against its decision to suspend Dr. Fidaa Wishah for her May 26, 2021, Facebook post that called for Israel’s destruction and accused Israel of “cannibalism.”Wishah’s post said: “We will uncover your thirst to kill our Palestinian children … A state based on atrocity, inhumanity, racism and cannibalism never lasts long! Hey #israel … your end is coming sooner than you think.” A screenshot of the post appeared on the Twitter feed of Stopantisemitism.org on June 21, 2021.
Ali’s tweet to Phoenix Children’s Hospital said: “Good to know you guys support a ‘country’ that bombs hospitals on the DAILY in Palestine, kills medical professionals intentionally, and then plays the victim.”
On June 23, 2021, news outlets and social media accounts reported that Wishah was temporarily suspended by the hospital.
Promoting Incitement
Ali retweeted a May 10, 2021 tweet that read: “They are protecting Al-Aqsa for all Muslims in the world and not a single Islamic nation has spoken out against Israel.”Demonizing Israel
On May 18, 2021, during Israel’s OGW, Ali tweeted an image that said: “...THIS IS ETHNIC CLEANSING. THIS IS APARTHEID. THIS IS GENOCIDE…”On May 18, 2021, Ali tweeted that Israel is “genocidal.”
Ali retweeted a May 17, 2021 tweet during OGW that read: “ … The US has now blocked 3 international ceasefire attempts.This is a US-funded genocide.”
Ali retweeted a January 25, 2021 tweet that read: “if you ever feel dumb just remember that there is people who think the state of israel actually exists when in reality it is an illegal apartheid state full of terr*rists.”
On September 24, 2016, Ali tweeted: “@tomkawczynski Wow, something we can agree on. Stop sending billions to terrorist countries like Israel & everything will be okay.”
On August 16, 2016 Ali tweeted: “Hey @Israel #NationalDogDay is coming up soon. Glad to see someone recognizing your guys' existence :).”
On November 18, 2016 Ali tweeted: “You should get a ‘Make Israel Palestine Again’ hat ... — Omg i really should.”
On July 31, 2016 Ali tweeted: “Sorry, we don't consider Israel an ‘Arab’ country let alone a country at all. Try again tho.”
On July 3, 2016 Ali tweeted: “‘Israel is fighting a necessary war’ ISRAEL BARELY EXISTS WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!??!”
MSA
The MSA was established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."
The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.
The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
