Patool Afanan
Overview
Patool Afanan has spread hatred of Zionists and Israel.
In May 2021, Afanan indicated on Twitter that she has participated in activism with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) in Riverside, California.
In May 2021, Afanan tweeted a letter that said she was a transportation engineer for the California Department of Transportation. The letter was dated March 24, 2021.
In July 2022, Afanan indicated in a tweet that she lived in Riverside, California.
As of March 2023, Afanan’s LinkedIn page said that she graduated from California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) in Pomona in 2015.
As of April 2023, Afanan used the handle “@pattyfrmthebloc” on Twitter.
On February 7, 2023, Afanan tweeted: “I’m not going to play it. It pains me that my fave childhood franchise was kinda ruined but transphobia and zionism pains me more and I don’t want to knowingly support anyone that spews such hateful things.I love cozy gaming, but I’ll stick w Pokémon rn.”
On May 12, 2021, Afanan tweeted about Israeli actress Gal Gadot: “Isn’t your husband an ‘Israeli land developer’ aka literally in the forefront of people stealing Palestinian land? Didn’t your b**ch a** also proudly serve in the IDF [Israel Defense Forces]? F**k you. You never deserved the role of Wonder Woman you evil b**ch.”
Afanan retweeted a May 7, 2021 tweet that said: “The way zionists will literally reach for anything to justify killing hundreds of Palestinians so they can steal their land is baffling to me. You do realize you’re defending a literal genocide right??”
On May 7-10, 2021, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa compound, following claims that Al-Aqsa Mosque was in danger. The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy Al-Aqsa has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.
On April 15, 2022, Afanan tweeted: “Isr*el is nothing short of despicable and evil.”
On August 8, 2021, Afanan tweeted: “When you’re non Palestine friend’s support you by chanting ‘f**k isr*el’ when you bring out the Knafeh at the party 😭😭😭😭😭 I love them sm [so much].”
On May 25, 2021, Afanan tweeted: “More afraid of offending people with the word genocide then the actual genocide taking place.”
Afanan was responding to a tweet by actor Mark Ruffalo where he apologized for having accused Israel of “genocide” earlier that month during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas.
In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes.
Afanan retweeted a May 14, 2021 tweet that said: “I don’t know what is a better proof of ethnic cleansing than such photo. The right of return has been denied to millions of Palestinians to their home towns for over 70 years now while the ‘birth right’ trips are offered to people who never saw the place before…”
The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
Birthright Israel is a heritage trip to Israel for Jewish young adults from across the world.
The tweet that Afanan retweeted included a series of maps popular among anti-Israel activists.
The maps claim that lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land” were purportedly stolen by Israel. In February 2016, publisher McGraw-Hill Education recalled copies of a college textbook containing the fraudulent maps. In October 2015, American cable news network MSNBC apologized for airing a similar series of maps and retracted them.
Afanan retweeted on the same day a tweet from anti-Israel activist Mohammed El Kurd that said: “Carpet bombing a blockaded and densely populated city is NOT self-defense. #GenocideInGaza.”
Afanan retweeted a May 11, 2021 tweet that said: “Israel bombing residential buildings under the guise of it being Hamas hideouts is vile because you know they don’t care either way.”
During OGW in May 2021, Hamas reportedly used civilians as human shields to defend against Israeli counterstrikes. Hamas also launched rockets from densely populated civilian areas, stockpiled weapons in private homes and situated key operations facilities in civilian apartment buildings, near mosques, hospitals and schools.
Afanan retweeted a May 10, 2021 tweet that said: “WHAT THE F**K IS A ‘CLASH’ THESE ARE HEAVILY MILITARIZED ISRAELI FORCES TERRORIZING NATIVE PALESTINIANS IN A PLACE OF WORSHIP WHAT IN GOD’S NAME ARE YOU CALLING IT A ‘CLASH’ FOR.”
On the same day, Afanan tweeted: “I can’t enjoy Eid or the final days of Ramadan knowing Israel is killing children again.”
Afanan retweeted a May 10, 2021 tweet that said: “Israel is burning Mosques. During Ramadan. This the most devilish of war crimes.”
In May 2021, social media erupted with videos allegedly showing Jews dancing and cheering while a tree burned near the Al-Aqsa mosque. The fire was reportedly caused by Palestinian rioters shooting fireworks at Israeli police. Jews had gathered at the Western Wall in honor of Jerusalem Day, an Israeli national holiday, with no connection to the incident.
Afanan retweeted a May 7, 2021 tweet that said: “Have you seen what Israelis are doing in ‘Israel’ ? Folks lets be honest. Israel is not only an apartheid settler colonial state it is a fascist state. How can anyone with an once of morality justify Israel's treatment of Palestinians?
Afanan retweeted a May 6, 2021 tweet that said: “ if you don’t support palestinian liberation and resistance to zionist aggression we are not comrades.”
Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.
On May 18, 2021, Afanan tweeted a photo of herself at a PYM protest outside the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles. The protest was in response to OGW in Gaza.
One day later, in a comment to the previous tweet, Afanan wrote that she lost her headband at the PYM protest. Afanan tweeted: “It fell off when a car full of Israeli’s tried harassing us and they got water bottles thrown at them and the swat team descended at the end 😭 pretty sure my head band came off in the chaos.”
In 2012, the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM USA) released a statement saying: “Our liberation...will be gained with the path that was written with the blood of our martyrs. We reaffirm that the only path that we are concerned with is the path that explicitly heads towards the liberation of our land and the return of our people to Palestine.”
PYM organized rallies demonizing Israel, where it displays propaganda posters supporting the terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and compared Israel to Nazi Germany.
On October 25, 2015, PYM called to support “intifada” during a period when Palestinian radicals across Israel stabbed and hacked to death scores of Israeli civilians. PYM alleged that “Al-Aqsa Mosque has been the target of particularly brutal assaults” and that “... arbitrary killings are committed daily by the Zionist military and settlers.”
On November 10, 2015, the PYM Facebook page displayed a photo of masked Palestinian radicals throwing rocks and firing rocks from slingshots. That photo was used to promote at least 25 anti-Israel rallies across the globe on or around November 29, 2015, under the banner of “Transnational mobilization for Palestinian resistance.”
On November 30, 2015, PYM displayed a photo on Facebook from one of the rallies showing a sign in support of PFLP member Khalida Jarrar, who confessed to inciting violence and calling for terrorists to abduct Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers.
Another sign showed support for PFLP Secretary-General Ahmad Sadat, who was convicted for the 2001 assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi.
