Omar Mussa

Overview

Omar Mussa spread hatred of Israel at an anti-Israel rally days after Hamas massacred approximately 1200 Israelis in October 2023. Mussa also spoke at an anti-Israel disruption held at a Pennsylvania state capitol building in 2024. He is also known as Omar Abdel Salam Saeed Dabbah Mussa.

Mussa is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Mussa organized and spoke at multiple anti-Israel rallies during Israel’s war against Hamas, in late 2023 and early 2024.

Mussa’s activism occurred in the wake of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings. The terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

In February 2024, Mussa was reportedly an organizer with the Pennsylvania Palestine Network.

Mussa was also affiliated with the anti-Israel campus groups Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Temple University (Temple SJP), the Harrisburg Palestine Coalition (HPC) and the Philly Palestine Coalition (PPC), in 2023 and 2024.

As of June 2024, Mussa’s LinkedIn profile said he had been employed as a “Senior Manager Credit Strategies” at Sunlight Financial since March 2022.

As of the same date, Mussa’s LinkedIn said he graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Hebrew U) with a master’s degree in 2019. Mussa’s degree was reportedly in Middle Eastern studies where he “focused his work…on the developing discourse of the Palestinian refugee right of return.”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.

As of June 2024, Mussa’s LinkedIn said he graduated Temple University (Temple) with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics in 2015. Mussa reportedly graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) with an associate’s degree in 2013.

On September 28, 2023, Mussa participated [slides 1 and 2]in the Palestine Writes Literature Festival at the University of Pennsylvania, an event that reportedly “featured several activists who promoted conspiracies about Jewish power and called for violence against Israel.”

In 2024, Mussa was affiliated with the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) (PSU Harrisburg MSA), which billed him at an April 16, 2024 event as an “activist, public speaker, and community organizer.”

As of the same date, Mussa’s Facebook About page said he was located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

10/13/2023 - Hatred of Israel at an Anti-Israel Rally

On October 13, 2023, Mussa helped organize an anti-Israel rally held at Pennsylvania’s State Capitol building in Harrisburg, where he spread [00:00:03] hatred of Israel.

The rally was sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Committee of Masajid (CPCOM) and titled: “Rally for Palestine.” Protesters at the rally held signs [photos 28] that read: “DEFUND ISRAELI APARTHEID,” and [photos 29]: “It’s GENOCIDE ETHNIC CLEANSING OPPRESSION & TERRORISM STOP CALLING It A CONFLICT!”

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation. Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.

A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.

For more information on the October 7, 2023 terror attacks, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
On October 13, 2023, Mussa featured [00:00:03] in a video interview at the rally in which he said [00:00:26]: “We are here today…standing up with 2.2 million people in the Gaza Strip that are under and Israeli occupation, living in an open-air prison…” Mussa also said [00:00:51]: “We are seeing a genocide right before our eyes.”

Referring to Gaza as an "open-air prison" is a way to delegitimize the United Nations-approved [pp. 39–41] joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed in 2011 to prevent Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets.

During the interview, Mussa said [00:06:13]: “We have to end the Israeli occupation….lift the siege that is going on in Gaza, right now. We have to stop funding Israel in terms of a military package and we have to make sure that we are covering the story correctly.”

2/5/2024 - Anti-Israel Disruption at a Pennsylvania State Capitol Building

On February 5, 2024, Mussa spoke [00:00:13] at an anti-Israel event held at the Pennsylvania State Capitol building in Harrisburg to demand the state treasurer divest from Israel. The protest was organized by anti-Israel groups, including Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) andJewish Voice for Peace (JVP).

At the event, protesters reportedly unlawfully entered the main rotunda steps inside the building, resulting in the arrest of many activists. Anti-Israel activists held [slide 7] a banner that read: “Israel is a Terrorist Organization.”

Mussa spoke [00:00:13] at a demonstration held [slide 2] on the steps of the state capitol building and condemned the Pennsylvania state treasurer for increasing investment in Israeli bonds.

On February 5, 2024, Mussa featured [00:00:39] in a video interview from the rally, in which he said: “Our main message is to divest from genocide, to divest from war and to invest in PA [Pennsylvania].”

Mussa continued [00:01:24]: “If our elected officials who represent us aren’t going to take those actions, the people have to come and pressure them and take the actions ourselves.”

Mussa also said [00:01:48]: “You all represent us and our taxpayer dollars that you control…are being sent to a genocide and we demand as the people who are paying those taxes for that to come to a halt and for us to invest in Pennsylvania and divest from genocide.”

Hatred of Israel

On April 14, 2024, Mussa spoke [00:02:38] at the “CPCOM First Annual PA 10th Congressional Candidate Forum” held at the Islamic Center of Pennsylvania before theApril 23rd primary elections for the Democratic nomination in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District.

At the forum, Mussa moderated [00:02:41] a question-and-answer session with five congressional candidates and accused [00:02:44] Israel of “murdering” Palestinians whom he said Israel had [00:03:29] “forcefully starved to death.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
