Nisreen Mahmoud

Overview

Nisreen Mahmoud has spread anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel on Twitter. Mahmoud is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

In 2016, Mahmoud indicated on Twitter that she was affiliated with the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), an offshoot of the Muslim Student Association (MSA)

In 2016, Mahmoud indicated on Twitter that she was a student at City University of New York (CUNY) and was an “English major.” In March 2017, Mahmoud was reportedly a sophomore at Lehman College, part of CUNY. In 2018, Mahmoud indicated on Twitter that she was still a student.

In January 2016, Mahmoud indicated on Twitter that she had “been obsessed with Concordia's nursing program and I just got my acceptance letter so yes Alhamdullillah.”

As of August 2019, Mahmoud’s Twitter bio indicated that she was located in New York.

Anti-Semitism

On October 24, 2018, in response to a tweet that read: “Quote with what you call this in your language,” and featured a photo of a rat, Mahmoud tweeted: “Yahoodi [Jew].”

On August 5, 2015, Mahmoud tweeted: “But if we don't blame the yahood [Jews] for everything, who else can we blame?😩😭.”

Mahmoud retweeted a February 10, 2019 tweet by U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that read: “It's all about the Benjamins baby 🎶”

Omar’s tweet came in response to another tweet by journalist Glenn Greenwald that read: “GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy threatens punishment for @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib over their criticisms of Israel. It's stunning how much time US political leaders spend defending a foreign nation even if it means attacking free speech rights of Americans.”

The implication that AIPAC buys political support for Israel has been described as playing into “anti-Semitic tropes” that led to “centuries of stereotypes about Jews using money to control the world.”

Ilhan Omar was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2018. In February 2019, top Congressional leaders denounced Omar for tweeting anti-Semitic remarks.Omar has demonized Israel and endorsed BDS. In July 2019, Omar introduced a pro-BDS resolution in the U.S. Congress, which she described as “an opportunity for us to explain why it is we support…the BDS movement.”

Mahmoud retweeted a February 10, 2019 tweet that read: “Crazy how drake the only yahoodi [Jew] that I allow myself to say looks good.”

Mahmoud retweeted another February 10, 2019 tweet that read: “Alhamduillah you’re not palestinian or else you’d be a sellout I wouldn’t sell any of my land to any yahood [Jews] if I was offered the world. Our pride and honor is priceless and this is why we’re the only ones who value our land. https://t.co/MMEX1i9Qny.”

Mahmoud retweeted a November 29, 2018 tweet that read: “Further proof Zionists control all US mainstream media.” The tweet was in response to a tweet that read: “Marc Lamont Hill was fired from @CNN after remarks about Palestinians and Israel.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On November 29, 2018, Mahmoud tweeted: “MLH [Marc Lamont Hill]: Palestinians are DYING and the ones who survive are being forced out of their homes, we should help them! America: let’s not shame israelis now.”

In November 2018, Marc Lamont Hill was fired from his position as a contributor to CNN (Cable News Network) following controversial comments he made during a meeting held at the United Nations for an “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.”

During the meeting, Hill reportedly whitewashed Palestinian violence and accused Israel of “state violence and ethnic cleansing.” He also called for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea.”

In September 2018, during a U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) conference, Hill insinuated [00:31:01] that Israel poisons Palestinian water and seemingly approved [00:30:34] of violence against Israelis.

Mahmoud retweeted a December 13, 2018 tweet that read: “Falasteen [Palestine] going crazy today plz keep my ppl in your duaas [Prayers] Israel is coming for blood and they’ll do anything in their power to get the job done.”

Mahmoud retweeted another December 13, 2018 tweet that read: “...Israel was not established in a vacuum. It was established and is maintained through colonialism, ethnic cleansing and the dispossession of millions of Palestinians.”

Mahmoud retweeted a December 8, 2018 tweet that read: “Great move by Ireland. Now importing goods from the Israeli settlements is illegal in Ireland. #BDS.”

Mahmoud retweeted a November 30, 2018 tweet that read: “From the River to the Sea, Israel practices Apartheid. If you are more bothered by people calling for freedom and equality between the river and the sea than the actual horrific reality on the ground there, maybe the problem is with you.”

Mahmoud retweeted a November 25, 2018 tweet that read: “As a Jew, I am appalled at your tweet. You should educate yourself about Israel's ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinian people, which began in the fall of 1947 and which continues to this day. Do you know what they are doing in Gaza?”

Mahmoud retweeted a November 20, 2018 tweet that read: “I teach my students to write Palestine with a capital letter, and israel with a small letter because it is not a country.”

Mahmoud retweeted a November 14, 2018 tweet that read: “If you can’t see that Israel is oppressive and cruel and just pure evil, there is literally no way that we can be friends.”

Mahmoud retweeted an October 29, 2018 tweet that read: “When Ahed Tamimi said ‘we should all be slapping Israeli soldiers, not just me’ I felt that.”

Ahed Tamimi has a long history of physically attacking Israeli soldiers. Tamimi is the daughter of Bassem Tamimi, who is known for exploiting young children as political props in staged confrontations with Israeli soldiers.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
