He attended Birzeit University (Birzeit) from 2005-2008, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Finance.
Alsaafin is reportedly an older brother of Linah Alsaafin, an online producer with Al Jazeera English and anti-Israel blogger, who also has promoted violence and expressed support for terrorists.
Expressing Support for Terrorists
On March 7, 2018, Alsaafin tweeted: “This is horrifying. Video of Israeli soldiers drawing guns on students and kidnapping the head of the student union at my university.” The tweet referred to the arrest of Omar al-Kiswani, a student leader with Hamas’s student faction Birzeit University.Birzeit University’s student body has celebrated terrorists since at least 2003. That year, student government elections featured models of exploding Israeli buses, as parties competed on the basis of which Palestinian faction had killed the most Israelis.
In 2003, 2015 and 2016, Birzeit University students elected Hamas’ student wing to power. As a result, Bilal Barghouti, who is serving 16 life terms in prison for his role in a series of suicide attacks against Israel, was made the "Honorary Chairman of the Bir Zeit University Student Council."
On November 1, 2017, Alsaafin tweeted: “Gaza rescuers call off 3 day attempt to find 5 ppl missing in destroyed tunnel-Israel ignoring ICRC [International Committee of Red Cross] request for searchers to cross border.”
The “destroyed tunnel” referred to in Alsaafin’s tweet was a Hamas attack tunnel, which was constructed in order for terrorists to cross into Israel. The IDF destroyed the tunnel on October 30, 2017.
On August 7, 2017, Alsaafin wrote on Twitter: “Israel expels most Palestinians from their lands in 1948, forces its citizenship on the ones that remain. Now precedent for taking it away.”
Alsaafin‘s tweet embedded a Facebook post that read: FIRST TIME EVER: Israeli court rules to strip citizenship from Palestinian citizen of Israel. *Alaa Zayoud will be left stateless, in contravention of international law.”
Alaa Raed Ahmad Zayoud, an Arab-Israeli citizen, was convicted by an Israeli court on four counts of attempted murder, for running down a female Israeli soldier, then exiting his car to stab three others, on October 11, 2015.
Zayoud was sentenced to 25 years in prison, stripped of his citizenship and granted temporary status, to be extended from time to time at the discretion of Israel’s Interior Minister following completion of Zayoud’s prison term.
In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.
On July 12, 2017, Alsaafin tweeted: “What this means is Israel arrested a Palestinian parliamentarian and sentenced her to 6 months in jail without charging her with anything.” The tweet referred to Khalida Jarrar.
On July 11, 2015, Alsaafin tweeted: “Khader Adnan, at home with his kids. Another release he won on his own. خضر عدنان في عرابة مع اطفاله. [Khader Adnan in Arrabeh with his children]”
Khader Adnan was a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization. A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.
On July 21, 2014, Alsaafin tweeted: “You know for a group that apparently hides behind women and children, Hamas has attacked a lot of Israeli soldiers in their bases.”
On July 19, 2014, Alsaafin tweeted: “Israel telling foreign journalists they're acting as human shields for Hamas sums up why the whole human shields argument is bullsh*t.”
Throughout the summer of 2014 — during OPE — Hamas's deployment of human shields was documented and publicized. Hamas encouraged Gazans to act as human shields, to specifically frustrate Israeli efforts to avoid civilian casualties in Gaza. Israel commenced OPEin July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
Demonizing Israel
Alsaafin produced [00:01:08] a video titled “Gaza’s March to Return” that AJ+ tweeted on March 30, 2018. The video claimed [00:00:02] that Gaza is the world’s largest open-air prison.”The AJ+ tweet said: “In Gaza, 15 Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli soldiers as they took part in the ‘Great Return March.’”
Ten of the 15 Palestinians killed during riots on March 30 were confirmed to be members of terror groups, including eight from Hamas and one from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
On March 30, 2018, some 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza approached Israel’s border to take part in “Land Day Protests,” or the “March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests to spotlight the Palestinian demand to “return” to Israel. The “right of return” has since been discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.
March participants sent scores of kites bearing explosive devices across Israel’s border to burn Israeli crops and homes. Participants also attempted to breach the border fence, which caused the Israeli Defense Forces to respond with live fire. Agitators also threw Molotov cocktails and firebombs, shot firearms and threw rocks.
On January 14, 2017, Alsaafin tweeted: “Israel's MO re infrastructure in Gaza: Bomb schools, homes and powerplant, refuse to allow (paid for) building materials and fuel to enter.”
On August 5, 2014, Alsaafin tweeted: “Good that @sullydish is noting calls to genocide & ethnic cleansing in Israel's political discourse; but the state was founded on this.”
On May 18, 2016, in a Twitter exchange with Israeli journalist Lahav Harkov, Alsaafin tweeted: “If putting an insane, unhinged racist settler in charge of your army is magic…”
On October 14, 2014, Alsaafin tweeted: “Imagine the outcry if Israeli Jews were barred from paying at their holy sites; Israel this week closed Al Aqsa Mosque for most worshippers.”
Jewish prayer is completely forbidden on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism.
Promoting an Anti-Israel Agitator
On December 19, 2017, Alsaafin tweeted: “This is a video of Ahed Tamimi…Why would she slap a soldier? Ask why the soldier was there.”Ahed Tamimi has a long history of physically attacking Israeli soldiers. Tamimi is the daughter of Bassem Tamimi, who is known for exploiting young children as political props in staged confrontations with Israeli soldiers.
