In March 2017, following the exposure of Muhammad’s tweets by Canary Mission and subsequent coverage by the Algemeiner news site, a petition was circulated calling for his removal as president of Undergraduate Student Government at St. Thomas.
On March 16, 2017, the President of St. Thomas, Julie Sullivan, issued a statement in response, denouncing hate speech “...whether shared out of ignorance, emotion or to advance an agenda.”
Muhammad responded with a statement claiming: “For the past year or so, I have been constantly harassed by a notorious organization that conducted a smear campaign against me by digging through my social media accounts and stating that I had made offensive comments.”
Muhammad continued: “Yesterday, another organization published an article with the intent to discredit me and my reputation using the same methods. I believe the attacks levied against me by both organizations are Islamophobic. I am coming under attack for being a Muslim leader of the student government at a private Catholic institution.”
Muhammad went on to say: “The tweets that resurfaced were from 3+ years ago and do not reflect what I meant at the time.”
On March 17, 2017, Muhammad reportedly said: “What these organizations are portraying me to be is an anti-Semite, and that is something that I am not.”
On April 3, 2017, Muhammad reportedly survived a subsequent vote of no confidence by the student government voting “14 for Muhammad’s removal, 22 against and one abstention,” therefore leaving Muhammad “in his position as USG undergraduate president for the remainder of the year.”

On September 15, 2015, during a wave of stabbing attacks on Israeli civilians, known as the “Knife Intifada,” Muhammad shared a link to a video by AJ+ that portrayed the Israeli Army as “storming” the Al Aqsa Mosque and attacking Muslim worshippers.
Muhammad commented: “How are you gonna attack people in their place of worship? Absolutely heartless move by Israel.”
On September 13, 2015, masked Palestinian rioters barricaded themselves inside the Al Aqsa Mosque. They set off fireworks, starting a small fire, and threw stones and debris stored inside the mosque at Israeli police. The police later found pipe bombs the rioters had prepared to launch at Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount plaza.
Spreading Hatred of Israel
On August 14, 2014, during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE), Muhammad shared an article on Facebook about Benjamin Netanyahu cautioning the United States on the dangers of forcing a ceasefire and negotiating with terrorists. Muhammad commented on the article - “How are we gonna take orders from a country who continues murdering innocent people every day?”Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
Norris also called[00:06:33] for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Ireland, the removal [00:06:07] of Israel’s embargo on Gaza, the possible [00:07:18] imposition of an international military force in Gaza and the boycott [00:06:30] of Israeli goods.

Anti-Israel Activism

SJP Activism
On April 13, 2011, Muhammad featured in SJP UMN Facebook photos participating in a Palestine Awareness week (PAW) event.Palestine Awareness Week (PAW) is a re-branding for American audiences of Israel Apartheid Week (IAW), originally presented as “an international series of events that seek to raise awareness of Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people” and build support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
In one photo, Muhammed was featured speaking in front of an audience as part of the event’s program.
CAIR
CAIR describes itself as a “grassroots civil rights and advocacy group” and “America's largest Muslim civil liberties organization, with regional offices nationwide.” Its official mission is “enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”
CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation.
CAIR was founded in 1994 and opened its first office in Washington, DC, with the help of a $5,000 donation from the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a charity founded by Mousa Abu Marzook.
Marzook, who was listed as a "Specially Designated Terrorist" by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1995, is reportedly a senior member of Hamas.
In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the HLF for providing funds to Hamas.
CAIR was also listed as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.
MSA
The MSA was established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."
The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.
The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
