Maya Jakubowski
Overview
Maya Jakubowski has spread hatred of America and the police, demonized Israel, endorsed anti-Israel agitators and engaged in anti-Israel activism. She is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.In 2019-2021, Jakubowski was an activist with the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst).
As of February 2022, Jakubowski’s Instagram said she graduated from UMass Amherst in 2021.
As of March 2022, Jakubowski’s Facebook said she majored in “Social Thought and Political Economy.”
As of the same date, Jakubowski worked at Greeno Sub Shop and was located in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Also, as of March 2022, Jakubowski used the username “maya j” and the handle “@maya__ji” on Twitter and the username “maya j” and the handle “maya.jokes” on Instagram.
Hatred of America and the Police
Jakubowski retweeted an August 4, 2019 tweet that said: “america was founded on mass genocide and the enslavement of Black people. Violence is in the very fabric of this country. Mass shootings is symptom of this settler colonial white supremacist empire. For mass shootings to end the empire has to crumble.”Jakubowski retweeted a September 30, 2020 tweet that said: “Both [presidential] candidates for amerikkka were gushing over police tonight. Because capitalists love police. Because police protect property (wealth), break strikes, brutalize workers, occupy proletarian hoods like foreign armies & terrorize the most marginalized sections of the proletariat.”
The term “Amerikkka” uses the initials of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) as a way to demonize America as “fascist or racist.”
Demonizing Israel
Jakubowski retweeted a May 30, 2021 tweet that referred to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a “constant aggressor” and a “terrorist organization.”Jakubowski retweeted a May 12, 2021 tweet that said: “To deny the Palestinian apartheid is just the same as denying the Holocaust.”
Jakubowski retweeted a May 11, 2021 tweet that said: “...Israel has always been the aggressor.”
On May 5, 2019, Jakubowski tweeted: “!! from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.
Jakubowski retweeted a January 18, 2019 tweet that labeled Israel an “illegal colonizer state committing genocide.”
Endorsing Anti-Israel Agitators
On May 5, 2019, Jakubowski posted [slide B] to her Instagram an image from an SJP-sponsored panel she helped organize at UMass Amherst, titled: “Not Backing Down: Israel, Free Speech & The Battle for Palestinian Rights.”The image featured UMass SJP members with anti-Israel agitator Roger Waters. The caption read: “So amazing to hear the righteousness of our panelists, thank you for supporting us!! Umass sjp loves you!! From the river to the sea Palestine will be free✊🏼🇵🇸🇵🇸@lsarsour @marclamonthill @rogerwaters @edgeofsports.”
Panelists included Linda Sarsour, Marc Lamont Hill and Roger Waters.
Anti-Israel agitator Linda Sarsour frequently uses the word “Zionist” as a pejorative and has tweeted that “nothing is creepier than Zionism.” She has aligned with noted anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, dismissed [00:07:45] those who see her alignment with Farrakhan as problematic and slammed the “Jewish Media” for calling attention to it.
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
Roger Waters is a world-famous musician and BDS activist who has compared Israel to Nazi Germany. He has also been accused of spreading anti-Semitism at his concerts.
Jakubowski retweeted a July 30, 2018 tweet that said: “On the first morning home, Ahed Tamimi’s friends brought her a cake that says ‘Palestine’s icon.’”
Ahed Tamimi has a long history of physically attacking Israeli soldiers. Tamimi is the daughter of Bassem Tamimi, who is known for exploiting young children as political props in staged confrontations with Israeli soldiers.
Anti-Israel Activism
On April 29,2021, Jakubowski posted to her Instagram on behalf of UMass Amherst SJP: “People’s Liberation Week🔥🔥Thanks to everyone who came thru to see our mock apartheid wall [Israeil’s security barrier] & performance from @bostondabketroupe Liberation within our lifetime🇵🇸❤️ @umass_sjp.”Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.
On May 5, 2019, Jakubowski tweeted to anti-Israel agitator Vijay Prashad: “Ahhhh!!!! Umass sjp loves u!!!” The previous day, Prashad moderated an SJP-sponsored panel at UMass Amherst, titled: “Not Backing Down: Israel, Free Speech & The Battle for Palestinian Rights.”
The event’s Facebook description read: “The panel will address recent attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar and other progressives who have spoken out against Israel’s 50-year military occupation of Palestinian land and pushed back against the claim that criticizing Israeli government policies is ‘anti-Semitic.’”
Ilhan Omar was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2018. In February 2019, top Congressional leaders denounced Omar for tweeting anti-Semitic remarks.
Supporting BDS
On March 18, 2019, Jakubowski tweeted: “the confidence of these 2 hampshire college students openly eating sabra hummus in a coffee shop......”Sabra Hummus is partially owned by an Israeli company, the Strauss Group.
On May 31, 2018, Jakubowski posted to her Instagram an image of a poster that said, in Portuguese: “ [Finish the occupation and the Israeli apartheid in Palestine. Eurovision Festival 2018. Give zero points to the Israeli music on the TV voting.]”
